The apparatus includes a control CPU which is fed with power from a main power supply circuit upon closure of a power switch, a nonvolatile control memory and a backup memory. Even if the power switch is opened, the backup memory, being a partial area of a RAM memory, is fed with power through an auxiliary power supply circuit connected directly to the battery. When the battery is replaced with a new one and connected again, a power supply interruption monitoring memory is reset. At the start of operation of the control CPU, the backup memory is initialized based on reset information, and the power supply interruption monitoring memory is rewritten into a set state.

The device includes a variable sized orifice defined by a fluid flow conduit and an element movable relative to the fluid flow conduit to vary a size of the orifice, a pressure sensor configured to determine a pressure differential across the orifice and generate a pressure signal, a positioning device configured to determine a position of the element relative to the conduit and generate a position signal, and a processor configured to determine the fluid flow rate using the pressure signal and the position signal. The system can directly control the adjustable valve or orifice. Alternatively, the system can move back and forth between a direct mode and a PID mode. When in a PID mode, the system employs a standard PID algorithm with a variable gain term. The system switches to direct mode when it is advantageous for the controller to directly change the valve position based upon the setpoint, and the input and output pressures.

A damper includes a cylindrical housing, a rotor rotatably disposed in the housing and having a cylindrical shaft portion and a wing portion radially outwardly extending from the shaft portion, a control valve member disposed between the housing and the shaft portion to cover the wing portion, and a viscous fluid filled inside the housing. A control apparatus for a vehicular power transmitting system includes a power transmission switching portion configured to selectively establish a first drive mode by placing one of the first and second coupling elements in an engaged state, a second drive mode by placing the other of the first and second coupling elements in an engaged state, or a third drive mode by placing both of the first and second coupling elements in the engaged states. The power transmission switching portion switches the vehicular power transmitting system between the first and second drive modes through the third drive mode, where a predetermined condition is not satisfied, and switches the vehicular power transmitting system between the first and second drive modes with concurrent engaging and releasing actions of the first and second coupling elements, where the predetermined condition is satisfied.
