Methods and devices for delivering microwave energy

The invention comprises novel microwave antennas wherein the microwave field profile generated by an antenna is tailored and optimized for a particular clinical application. The antennas disclosed herein incorporate one or more additional elements called shaping elements that use unique properties of microwaves such as interaction of a microwave field with one or more conductive or non-conductive elements to shape or redistribute the microwave field. Such shaping elements may be used to reduce the undesired backward coupling of the emitted microwave field to the transmission line. Such shaping elements may be used to increase the power efficiency of the antenna. The invention also discloses devices and methods for treating tissue with microwave energy emitted from the antennas for use in applications such as destroying a soil tissue by microwave ablation.

Vapor hydration of a hydrophilic catheter in a package

ActiveUS20060163097A1Little and no possibility of liquid spillageEasy to handleDispensing apparatusDiagnosticsHydrophilic coatingBiological activation
A vapor hydrated packaged catheter assembly and method of manufacturing and distributing same includes a gas impermeable package housing a catheter within a catheter-receiving cavity. The catheter assembly has a hydrophilic coating applied to at least a portion of the outer surface of a catheter tube or shaft which may be surrounded by a sleeve to provide a no-touch, sure grip feature. The catheter assembly is disposed within the catheter receiving cavity of the package together with a limited amount of a vapor donating liquid provided as a source of vapor to activate the hydrophilic coating. The amount of vapor donating liquid is less than the amount that would otherwise be sufficient to cause a spill hazard. It may be loose liquid as a desired percentage of the volume of a tube-receiving portion of the catheter receiving cavity of the package, or it may be contained in a liquid sequestering element. The activation of at least some of the hydrophilic coating occurs solely by reason of exposure of the outer surface of the catheter to a vapor produced by the vapor donating liquid. The distribution of the catheter following manufacture is delayed for a time sufficient to permit the vapor to complete hydration of the entire hydrophilic coating on the surface.

A software distribution method (300) is proposed. The solution of the invention relates to the deployment (from a source host to selected endpoints) of main packages that require one or more prerequisite packages. In this case, the source host builds (304-326) and transmits (330-332) a multi-segment distribution structure that embeds the main package and any prerequisite package that is not available on at least one of the endpoints. Each endpoint receiving the distribution structure only installs (336-360) the prerequisite packages that are not available on the endpoint. The main package can then be installed (362-366) correctly (with the required configuration of the endpoint)

Semiconductor-Graphene Hybrids Formed Using Solution Growth

A novel method for fabrication of hybrid semiconductor-graphene nanostructures in large scale by floating graphene sheets on the surface of a solution is provided. Using this approach, crystalline ZnO nano / micro-rod bundles on graphene fabricated using chemical vapor deposition were prepared. UV detectors fabricated using the as-prepared hybrid ZnO-graphene nano-structure with graphene being one of the two electrodes show high sensitivity to ultraviolet light, suggesting the graphene remained intact during the ZnO growth. This growth process provides a low-cost and robust scheme for large-scale fabrication of semiconductor nanostructures on graphene and may be applied for synthesis of a variety of hybrid semiconductor-graphene nano-structures demanded for optoelectronic applications including photovoltaics, photodetection, and photocatalysis.

The present invention relates to a magnet-shunted system for shielding a target from magnetic fields and waves. More particularly, the present invention relates to a magnet system including a path member and a magnet member having a magnet at least partially shielded by a magnetically permeable shunt member. The path member forms a path through which the extrinsic magnetic fields and waves bypass the target, the magnet member serves as a termination point for the magnetic fields or waves, and the shunt member defines another path through which primary magnetic fields generated by the magnet member are confined very close to the shunt and / or magnet members. The present invention relates to various methods of forming the termination point, eliminating the extrinsic magnetic fields or waves by the magnet, and disposing the magnet member into the path member. The present invention also relates to various processes for providing such a magnet-shunted system including the foregoing magnet and path members along with the optional shunt member.

Mower blade with replaceable inserts

The mower blade with replaceable inserts includes a blade bar having diametrically opposite reliefs therein for replaceable cutting inserts. Headed pins extend from each relief, and each insert has corresponding slots. The slots have larger diameter outer ends to clear the larger diameter heads of the pins, the inner portions of the slots being stepped to fit closely about the narrower shanks of the pins. The inserts drop into position over the corresponding pins, and slide outwardly to be retained by the heads of the pins. The outer (lower) surfaces of the heads of the pins are coplanar with the outer (lower) surfaces of the inserts when installed. The cutting edge portions of the inserts extend over and are in direct contact with the corresponding leading edge portions of the blade bar, thus protecting the bar and transferring impact forces directly to the bar rather than through the pins.
