Blade for wind turbine

A blade for a wind turbine includes a means for causing air at an increased velocity and / or pressure to escape from exit openings in the blade, thereby to apply a force that increases the rotational velocity of the blade. In one embodiment of the invention described a fan or vacuum in the blade causes an increase in the air velocity within a hollow air chamber in the blade. In another embodiment of the invention described, a compressor or one-way valve is used to increase the pressure of the air within the interior hollow air chamber. Pressure and diameter adjustable valves may be provided at each exit opening or orifice to allow the air to exit from the blade only when the air pressure within the blade exceeds a preset level. Also disclosed is the provision of valves at exit openings or orifices on an opposite edge of the blade that allows air to escape from the blade to slow down but not stop the rotation of the blade when a dangerous wind condition is detected.

Multi-level dimm error reduction

Embodiments of the present invention include computer-implemented methods for selectively applying remedial actions, according to a predefined order, for reducing the error rate in a computer memory system. In one embodiment, an ordered set of remedial actions are sequentially invoked in response to a single-bit error (SBE) in a DIMM reaching successive error thresholds. For example, in an air-cooled system, the remedial actions may include dynamically increasing a DIMM refresh rate, dynamically increasing a rate of airflow used to cool the DIMMs, and dynamically throttling the DIMMs. The remedial actions may be layered as they are successively invoked, to provide a cumulative remedial effect. At least two of the remedial actions may be simultaneously invoked in response to a multi-bit error rate reaching an associated threshold.

Low-profile power-generating wind turbine

A wind turbine is disclosed which uses energy in air moving relatively toward the turbine to focus and increase the velocity of air entering a turbine inlet air flow passage. The inlet flow passage discharges focused and accelerated air to blades of a rotor where the blades interact with that air to turn the rotor. Rotor motion can be used to operate an electrical generator. The plane of rotation of the rotor can be at substantially right angles to the plane of the passage inlet opening. Baffles in the flow passage and stator vanes adjacent the rotor blades cause the mass flow of the accelerated air to be substantially uniform, and desirably directed, throughout the rotor's blade area. The turbine is compact and operates quietly.
