Prosthetic valves for implantation in a body vessel are provided. Prosthetic valves according to the invention comprise first and second frame members and a graft member at least partially disposed between the first and second frame members. The graft member forms a valve that permits fluid flow through the body vessel in a first direction and substantially prevents fluid flow through the body vessel in a second, opposite direction.

A self-sealing male connector includes a tubular male body and an elastomeric resilient tip disposed on the distal end of the tubular male body. The elastomeric tip has a transverse size that is greater that the size of a female connector and a shape that differs from the female shape so that engagement of the two will result in reshaping the male tip to the shape of the female flow channel and the male will create a seal with the channel. The male tip is formed with a slit and a hollow core that provides a flow passage formed in the male body. As the male tip is reshaped due to engagement with a female connector, the slit opens to establish fluid flow through the male connector. In one embodiment, the transverse shape of the male tip is elliptical having a major axis along which the slit is formed. In one embodiment, the male tip is oversized in all transverse dimensions and forms an edge seal with the female connector at first contact. The proximal end of the male connector may be configured as a conventional female connector, a blood collection device, or other device. The male body can have a Luer shape.

A system and method for selectively stimulating a plurality of producing zones in a wellbore in oil and gas wells. The system includes a plurality of modules connected in a string that may be selectively actuated to stimulate a producing zone. Each module may be adapted to engage a tubing run ball seat. After installation of the string within the wellbore, a ball seat may be run into the well and positioned to selectively engage a desired module. The ball seat may be used to open a sleeve of the module permitting the stimulation of the producing zone. After stimulation of the producing zone, the ball seat may be removed from the wellbore rather than needing to drill out the ball seat. The sleeve may include a profile adapted to engage a shifting tool permitting the selective closure of the sleeve after stimulation of the producing zone.

A prosthetic valve for regulating fluid flow through a body vessel is provided. The valve includes an expandable support frame and a valve leaflet, and includes at least one opening that permits a controlled amount of retrograde flow through the valve when the valve is in a closed configuration.

System also includes audible signal(s) to signal an alarm condition, timing mode(s) for water conservation and monitoring in-line conductive fluid shut-off valve movements, a phone notifier for notifying user of said termination of conduct fluid due to a conductive fluid leak detection, and for (user-set) excessive water usage, means for communicating with said central processing unit by way of telephonic communication (to close or re-open said in-line conductive fluid shut-off valve), a battery back up system, and means of operating by way of manual means.

A connector for transferring a fluid includes a first connector and a second connector. Each connector includes a first outer portion including a first obstructive portion and defining a first fluid passageway for receiving a fluid therein. Each connector further includes a first central nozzle coupled to the first outer portion. The central nozzle includes a first engagement member. The first central nozzle is movable between a first position and a second position with rotation of the first outer portion. In the first position, the first obstructive portion and the first engagement portion substantially overlap to impede fluid flow through the first fluid passageway. In the second position, at least one of the first engagement member and the first obstructive member is displaced to allow fluid flow through the first fluid passageway.

Methods and devices for preventing fluid flow through the relatively short guidewire lumen of a rapid exchange catheter. The guidewire lumen for a rapid exchange catheter is provided with a narrowed or sealed section allowing for passage of a guidewire therethrough while preventing fluid flow while a guidewire is disposed therethrough. The narrowed or sealed section extends for a relatively short length of the guidewire lumen to avoid creating excessive friction between the guidewire and the guidewire lumen. In several embodiments the narrowed or sealed section is placed proximal of the distal end of the guidewire lumen.

A method, system and apparatus associated with the production of hydrocarbons are described. The system includes a wellbore that accesses a subsurface reservoir; a production tubing string disposed within the wellbore; and one or more sand control devices coupled to the production tubing string and disposed within the wellbore. At least one of the sand control devices includes a first tubular member having a permeable section and a non permeable section; a second tubular member disposed within the first tubular member. The second tubular member has a plurality of openings and an inflow control device that each provide a flow path to the interior of the second tubular member. Also, the at least one of the sand control devices includes a sealing mechanism disposed between the first tubular member and the second tubular member. The sealing mechanism is configured to provide a pressure loss during gravel packing operations that is less than the pressure loss during at least some of the production operations.

The invention discloses a patch for placement in a wellbore and associated methods. The patch has a longitudinal member and an anchor that is radially expanded to engage the wall of the borehole to secure the patch against axial and radial movement. The anchor is set using a running tool that radially expands the anchor and the longitudinal body. The anchor may include one or more elements that can be securely engaged within the wellbore. The longitudinal member and/or the anchor may include a sealing element to provide a seal between the wellbore inside and the earth formation surrounding the wellbore.

A heating system can include certain pressure sensitive features. These features can be configured to change from a first position to a second position based on a pressure of a fuel flowing into the feature. Methods for implanting a prosthetic valve in a body vessel having a fluid flow therethrough are provided. One method includes identifying a position of an existing valve and determining a factor affecting fluid flow in at least one of a first direction and a second direction at the existing valve. The method includes selecting the implantation position for a prosthetic valve at a distance away from the existing valve position in consideration of the factor. The method further includes providing the prosthetic valve for delivery to the implantation position, delivering and implanting the prosthetic valve at the position. The prosthetic valve includes at least one flexible member movable between a first position that permits fluid flow in the first direction and the second position that substantially prevents fluid flow in a second direction.

A dual pump hydraulic system is provided for a vehicle driven by an internal combustion engine. The system includes a first circuit with a first high pressure pump supplying hydraulic fluid to the first subsystem at a higher pressure. The system also includes a second circuit with a second lower pressure pump supplying hydraulic fluid to the second subsystem at a second pressure. A first valve controls communication between the first pump and the second circuit. A second valve is operable to communicate the second pump with the first circuit when pressure in the first circuit is less than a second threshold pressure or when commanded by a control unit. A check valve prevents fluid flow from the first circuit back into to the second valve.

An apparatus and method for a fluid leak detection and shutdown for a fluid distribution system having a total system flow rate. The apparatus includes a solenoid shutoff valve having a normally open state and an activated closed state with a flow capacity matched to the total fluid distribution system flow rate. The apparatus also has a primary fluid flow line and a smaller capacity secondary fluid flow line. The apparatus includes a flow sensor in fluid communication with the secondary fluid flow line, wherein the flow sensor has a perceptible output and a flow rate capacity less than the solenoid shutoff flow capacity. Operationally, the flow sensor receives a portion of the solenoid shutoff valve flow capacity in priority over the primary fluid flow line, allowing the flow sensor to detect minimal flow rates and using the perceptible output to activate the solenoid shutoff valve into the closed state.

A spill-proof pour spout for transferring fluid from a container to a vessel comprising a base having an inner sleeve extending outwardly therefrom, a conduit member located in the inner sleeve, and an outer sleeve slidingly engaging the inner sleeve. The conduit member has a fluid tube, and air tube and an end cap. The outer sleeve is in a first closed position wherein the outer sleeve contacts the end cap preventing fluid flow from the pour spout. The pour spout can only be opened by rotating the outer sleeve to a first or second indexing position. By rotating the outer sleeve either clockwise or counterclockwise relative to the inner sleeve, the outer sleeve is adapted to be slid to a first open position permitting fluid to flow at a first flow rate through the fluid tube and out of the pour spout. By further rotating the outer sleeve either clockwise or counterclockwise, the outer sleeve is adapted to be slid to a second open position permitting fluid to flow at a second flow rate through the fluid tube at a second flow rate and out of the pour spout.

An inflation and pressure regulation system for inflatable vessels, such as tires, has a main chamber containing a volume of compressible fluid, such as air, and a pump chamber which acts to maintain the fluid in the vessel at a desired pressure. The pump chamber has a rigid, fluid-tight wall facing the main chamber and a flexible wall which is part of, or adjacent to, the wall of the vessel that can be deformed under use. A fluid channel extending between the pump chamber and a source of ambient fluid admits fluid into the pump chamber. A first check valve positioned between the fluid channel and the pump chamber permits one-way flow of fluid from the exterior of the vessel into the pump chamber while it is uncompressed. A second check valve permits one-way passage of fluid from the pump chamber, when it is compressed, into the main chamber. One or more valves can be used to prevent over-inflation of the main chamber.

A pet grooming aid comprises a flexible, elongate handle coupled to a head bearing rigid tines adapted to reach through a pet's fur to its skin. The handle includes a reservoir for treatment fluids, the reservoir being coupled through a gate valve to a manifold within the head that distributes the fluid to a tube within each tine. Squeezing the handle forces treatment fluid through the manifold and tines onto the pet's skin, while the gate valve prevents fluid flow when the handle is not squeezed. A recharge nozzle and cap at on the handle opposite the head allows filling the reservoir without spilling fluid out the tines, and seals the reservoir for use.

A sprinkler for fire suppression systems that produces an orthogonal spray pattern is disclosed. The sprinkler has an exit orifice with a non-round perimeter and a deflector plate having a non-round perimeter. The shape of the deflector plate perimeter may be matched to that of the exit orifice perimeter. Orifice perimeters may be square, rectangular, formed of lobes or interconnected curves, and there may be multiple orifices in the sprinkler.

A flow control valve arrests fluid flow from a primary line to a branch line when flow into the branch line exceeds a predetermined flow rate. In one embodiment for use with an irrigation system, the valve includes a T-fitting. The fitting defines a primary passage, which communicates with irrigation pipes, and a branch passage, which communicates with a riser and sprinkler assembly. A valve seat is located within a housing that couples with the fitting. The valve seat is located within the T-fitting when the valve is assembled. The location of the valve seat within the fitting allows the valve to function even when the riser and/or a portion of the housing is sheared off. A stopper selectively engages a valve seat to inhibit water flow through the branch passage when the flow rate through the branch passage exceeds the predetermined flow rate. In one embodiment, a biasing device prevents the stopper from engaging with the valve seat while the predetermined flow rate through the branch passage is momentarily exceeded by transient flow conditions.

A coupling including female and male couplers configured to be connected together. The female coupler includes a valve body and a detent carrier surrounding the valve body and having a plurality of circumferentially spaced openings extending through a wall of the detent carrier for receiving detents to connect the female coupler to the male coupler. When the female and male couplers are connected together, the detent carrier is axially movable relative to the valve body by externally applied loads acting on the male and female couplers to cause the male and female couplers to separate. A pressure-balancing chamber is provided to prevent premature separation of the couplers. Once separated, the detent carrier axially moves back and the female and male couplers may be reconnected.

A fluid dispensing device is provided that is capable of discharging fluid in multiple different directions simultaneously. The device may include a deflector which redirects an initial stream of fluid from the container into multiple sub-streams that are oriented in different directions. The device may create a spray pattern that substantially covers an entire 360 degree area surrounding the device, which may be advantageous for certain applications such as toilet bowl cleaner dispensers. A control valve or flow restrictor may be provided for preventing unintended discharge of fluid when the container is inverted.

A vitrectomy probe includes a housing, a fluidic motor disposed within the housing, a needle extending from the housing, and a cutter assembly. The cutter assembly includes an inner cutting member disposed within and axially moveable relative to the needle, a drive shaft disposed within the housing and axially moveable relative to the housing, and a coupler disposed within the housing coupling the drive shaft and the inner cutting member. The motor is associated with the drive shaft in a manner that drives the cutter assembly in an oscillating manner. The probe also includes two or fewer seals within the housing in contact with the cutter assembly for sealing against fluid leakage.

An autoinflating catheter and balloon assembly having an autoregulating structure to prevent overinflation of the balloon as a result of variable fluid flow rates through the catheter lumen. A tight-fitting elastomeric balloon is provided on the distal end of the catheter body, and the assembly is constructed so that at least a portion of the fluid flow through the lumen is directed to the balloon to inflate it. As the balloon is inflated, more and more of the fluid flow through the catheter is discharged from the catheter, thereby preventing overinflation of the balloon.

A fluid metering valve includes a gear rack which is slidable on a valve stem in which a spring counteracts the force of an actuator to maintain a constant load on the gear mechanism to prevent backlash. Corresponding stop mechanisms between the gear and the shaft of a rotary actuator come into engagement with each other near a fully closed position of the fluid metering valve for zero calibration purposes upon power loss to the actuator. A single valve member and a single actuator of the fluid metering valve provides for both a shut-off function and a metering function.

A medical tubing clamp includes a first member, a second member, and a hinge connecting the first and second members to form a body. The second member has a first and second wall portion extending distally toward the first member, and a shelf extending between and connecting the first and second wall portions. The first and second wall portions and the shelf define a recess. The hinge allows the first and second members to move relative to one another to transition the clamp between an open mode and a closed mode. The first member is located within the recess and supported by the shelf when in the closed mode. The hinge has a first opening configured to receive the tubing. The clamp also has a tubing closure member that deforms the tubing to prevent fluid flow through the tubing when in the closed mode.

A microfluidic device, method and kit for assaying and/or culturing cells are provided. The microfluidic device comprises a well block comprising a plurality of microwells; at least one cell culture layer selected from a first cell culture layer comprising a plurality of microchannels, each microchannel being aligned with one of the plurality of microwells and being in fluid communication with the aligned microwells; and a second cell culture layer comprising a plurality of cell culture chamber wells, each cell culture chamber well being aligned with one of the plurality of microwells and being in fluid communication with the aligned microwells, and a plurality of outlets, each of the plurality of outlets corresponding to one of the plurality of cell culture chamber wells; and a base block, wherein the at least one cell culture layer is sealably coupled between the well block and the base block, thereby allowing fluid communication between the plurality of microwells in the well block and the at least one cell culture layer.

A wet piping system modular valve assembly includes a single piece valve body with a check valve within the valve body. The check valve is movable between a closed position and an open position according to a pressure differential across the check valve. A drain valve is removably mounted to the valve body and fluidly connected with the valve body downstream of the check valve. A mechanically independent flow detection switch is removably mounted to the valve body and fluidly connected with the valve body upstream of the drain valve.

A ball valve with offset straight through flow is provided. The ball valve has a housing having an inlet and an outlet and an internal cavity. A non-spherical ball valve member is positioned within the internal cavity. The valve member is mechanically coupled to a valve stem extending from the internal cavity to an exterior of the housing such that rotation of the valve stem results in a like rotation of the valve member. The ball valve has a fully closed position wherein fluid flow therethrough is prevented. The ball valve member also has a fully opened position where fluid flow therethrough is allowed. The ball valve can transition from the fully closed position to the frilly opened position and vice versa with a rotation of the valve member of less than or equal to about forty-five degrees.
