The invention relates to an overall lead-free X-ray shielding plastic compound material. The overall lead-free X-ray shielding plastic compound material uses rare earth mixture to replace lead, simultaneously adds metal tin and compounds thereof, metal tungsten and the compounds thereof and bismuth and the compounds thereof as shielding main materials and is further compounded with plastic to prepare the compound material which can realize the overall shielding and the complete lead-free property within the energy range of 40-170kVp. When in use of rare earth and bismuth materials, the way of combined use of the two metal element inorganic compounds and unsaturated organic complexes is adopted, and the in-situ reaction and the compounding with a polymer matrix are carried out, thereby leading the shielding element disperse phase to form nano-micro-level dispersed particles. The prepared material combines the X-ray shielding performance of shielding elements and the good conventional physical mechanical performance of matrix polymer material and can be widely used in medical diagnostic X-ray machines, X-ray diffraction instruments and occasions accompanied with X-ray generation for ray protection for working staff.

Sysstem for reduction of exposure to X-ray Radiation

To reduce X-ray exposure, an area of interest is selected in the image. The image of the selected area is updated frequently, comparable to rate of updates used today for the whole image. The rest of the image is updated at a significantly lower rate. Since the area of interest normally is a small part of the overall area, the total exposure is reduced significantly. A movable X-ray shield placed near the X-ray source blocks the radiation from areas outside the area of interest. The shield automatically retracts when the complete image is updated. The area of interest can be selected by the user or automatically selected based on activity in the image.

A collimator unit includes a filter set for regulating a spectrum of X-rays emitted from an X-ray source, and a source grating having plural X-ray shielding portions and X-ray transmitting portions. The X-ray shielding portions and X-ray transmitting portions extend in a y direction parallel to a rotational axis of a rotating anode of the X-ray source, and are alternately arranged in an x direction orthogonal to an optical axis direction (z direction) of the X-rays. The intensity of the X-rays is reduced in the y direction by a heel effect. However, further reduction in the intensity of the X-rays by vignetting does not occur in the y direction. Since the filter set is disposed upstream from the source grating in an application direction of the X-rays, the source grating forms arrayed narrow focuses of X-ray beams from the X-rays disturbed by a filter element.
