Multi-dimentional high performance liquid chromatographic separation technique (STAR7) for quantitative determinations of 7 fractions in heavy petroleum streams boiling above 550 degrees F

The present invention provides quantitation of seven classes of compounds (saturates, 1-4+ ring aromatics, sulfides, and polars) present in petroleum streams boiling from 550-1050° F. Operating the present invention in the preparative mode will allow us to load and collect multi-milligram amounts of material. In the present invention, all seven fractions are produced in a single run, whereas the most commonly used preparative liquid chromatographic separations requires two or more large scale separations to generate similar fractions. The present invention uses 100 times less solvent. The present invention protocol provides a quicker and cheaper alternative to most commonly used preparative liquid chromatographic separations and is flexible enough to target many refining and chemicals problems.

Use of deep-level transitions in semiconductor devices

The invention relates to the design, fabrication, and use of semiconductor devices that employ deep-level transitions (i.e., deep-level-to-conduction-band, deep-level-to-valence-band, or deep-level-to-deep-level) to achieve useful results. A principal aspect of the invention involves devices in which electrical transport occurs through a band of deep-level states and just the conduction band (or through a deep-level band and just the valence band), but where significant current does not flow through all three bands. This means that the deep-state is not acting as a nonradiative trap, but rather as an energy band through which transport takes place. Advantageously, the deep-level energy-band may facilitate a radiative transition, acting as either the upper or lower state of an optical transition.

Gridlock processing method

Targets are sensed by a first sensor in a first coordinate system and by a second sensor in a second coordinate system. Gridlock or congruence between the coordinate systems is achieved by sensing at least four targets with both sensors. Pseudomeasurements are generated in both local and external coordinate systems by taking the differences between a first target location and each of second, third, and fourth target locations. The pseudomeasurements are filtered in corresponding pairs, to thereby generate an estimated rotation matrix between the local and external coordinate systems. The estimated rotation matrix is applied to the local coordinate system. The target locations in the rotated local and external coordinate systems are filtered in corresponding pairs to generate an estimated translation vector. The rotation and translation are applied to the local coordinate system to bring it into congruence with the external coordinate system.

Computer system and method for predicting petrophysical properties in a fluid having one or more phases in porous media

A compositional simulator that is fully compositional and more robust and accurate is disclosed. Relative permeability (kr) and capillary pressure (Pc) are modeled as state functions, making them unique for a given set of inputs, which can include Euler characteristic, wettability, pore connectivity, saturation, and capillary number. All of these are made to be a function of composition, T, and P or rock properties. These state function kr-Pc models are fully compositional and can fit experimental data, including complex processes such as hysteresis. The models can be tuned to measured relative permeability data, and then give consistent predictions away from that measured data set. Phase labeling problems are eliminated. Flux calculations from one grid block to another are based on phase compositions. Simulations for three or four-phase hydrocarbon phases are possible. Time-step sizes increase to stability limits of implicit-explicit methods. Fully implicit methods are possible and significant improvements are expected.

Method for the implementation of electronic components in via-holes of a multi-layer multi-chip module

The substrate (2) containing the via-hole (3) is inserted into an electrophoretic cell (1) and an electrode (6) (the “first electrode”) is placed on top of a first orifice of the via-hole(s) (3), to be implemented with electrical component(s), so that the electrode (6) totally covers the first orifice. Electrically charged either conductive and / or non-conductive particles are provided by immersing the volume of the via-hole(s) (3) in a conductive medium (17) consisting of the electrically charged particles. An electric field is created between the first electrode (6) and a second electrode (4) through the via-hole(s) (3) and the conductive medium (17) and the electrically charged particles are precipitated on the inner surface of the first electrode (6) that is directed to the second orifice of the via-hole(s) (3), until a desired portion of the volume of the via-hole(s) (3) is filled with a first layer of the charged particles having a desired thickness. More layers may be created by repeating this process using additional electophoretic cell(s), until remaining portion of the volume of the via-hole(s) (3) is filled with the additional charged particles.
