A double bearing reel that facilitates operating the braking and sounding mechanisms while fishing. A reel includes a reel body having a handle (2), a spool (15), a clutch mechanism (21), a frictional braking mechanism (26), a sounding mechanism (27), a switching operation mechanism (28), and a drag mechanism (42). The frictional braking mechanism is capable of braking the spool in its braking state regardless of the state of the clutch mechanism and switchable between the braking state and a non-braking state. The sounding mechanism is capable of producing sound in accordance with the rotation of the spool and switchable between an engaged state in which sound may be produced and a disengaged state in which no sound is produced. Two or more of said plurality of layers are conductive layers and two or more of said plurality of layers are insulating layers. Each insulating layer is disposed between the conductive layers. When the linear device is embedded in or its front end is inserted into a region of a subject, electric stimuli can be given to the region and the electric resistance of the region can be measured. Because the linear device is very thin, pain or uncomfortable feeling at the region is slight when it is inserted or embedded in a region of the human body or the like.

A shelter for a motor vehicle or other movable object is moved from a fully retracted position to a fully deployed position by a combination of linear and pivotal movement. The shelter includes a frame assembly including parallel rails with pole holding subassemblies mounted on and movable along the rails. Arched poles with a collapsible canopy covering the poles are mounted on the pole holders, and linear movement of one pole holder on each rail will pull or push the poles into position because the poles are connected by the canopy. Poles on parallel rails will be moved simultaneously. Front and rear pole holders are pivoted to enclose both the front and rear of the shelter, and the entire assembly can be retracted to a generally horizontal storage position by movement of swing arms from a position aligned with the rails to a position in which the swing arms extend upright relative to the rails.

A light diffuser for use in illumination systems of optical microscopes which utilize a light source to illuminate a specimen staged on the microscope for observation. The light diffuser includes a light diffusing plate made of opal glass positioned closely adjacent the specimen. The light diffusing plate randomly breaks up light transmitted from a light source which passes therethrough into spatially isotopic light. The isotropic light illuminates the specimen for observation of a specimen image through the microscope with substantially reduced diffraction shadows which obscure the specimen. The light diffuser is utilized as part of an illumination lens system for microscopes and a method of use thereof which includes a plurality of lenses, an aperture diaphragm, and a field diaphragm which allow adjustment of the contrast and field of illumination of the image.

Method and apparatus for embossing container walls

A method and apparatus for embossing the sidewalls of heavy gauge sheet metal containers involves clamping over a top edge of an opening into the container using a press carrying complementary embossing dies. The clamping apparatus can be a portable punch press having opposite members on a solid C-shaped frame, one being movable by a hydraulic drive cylinder to bear against the other. The die set coupled to the clamping apparatus has opposite protrusions and depressions representing an indicia to be embossed on the container, such as a trademark, symbol, owner's name or other indicia. In one embodiment the container is a dumping refuse container with an opening edge reinforced by a frame. The press has an opening throat that spaces the dies sufficiently that the clamping apparatus can be clamped over the reinforced edge to space the point of deformation of the sheet metal from the edge of the opening. The die set can form raised characters, a bas relief or another shape, the disclosed example being an externally raised logo, e.g., about 0.125 inch high and formed over an area of about four by seven inches using a 50 ton press.

Method and apparatus for measuring radiation in a borehole

Apparatus and methods for measuring radiation in a borehole environment using a YAlO3:Ce (YAP) scintillation crystal. Borehole instruments are disclosed which employ a gamma ray detector comprising a YAP scintillator coupled to a light sensing means such as a photomultiplier tube. One instrument embodiment combines a YAP scintillation detector and a source of pulsed neutrons. Borehole environs are irradiated with neutrons, and induced gamma radiation is measured using a YAP scintillation detector. Response of the detector is used to determine characteristics of the borehole environs. Mechanical and physical properties of YAP are utilized to obtain improved measurements. The relatively short light decay constant of YAP minimized pulse pile-up in the detector when measurements require that the detector be operated during a neutron pulse.
