Magnetic screening system

A magnetic screening system uses directional gradiometers with high resolution and accuracy to measure magnetic field signatures of target objects (e.g., gun, knife, cell phone, keys) in a volume of interest. The measured signatures can be compared to signatures of known objects stored in a local database. Various mathematical processes may be used to identify or classify target object signatures. In a network of magnetic screening systems, the magnetic screening systems can transmit signatures to a central signature database, and a management computer can share the central signature database with all of the magnetic screening systems on the network. The magnetic screening system can operate in multiple modes, such as a tracking mode, measurement mode, and self-test mode. Through use of unique processes and designs, the magnetic screening system can achieve a high rate of processing persons for target objects.

Method of estimating the maximum power generation capacity and for controlling a specified power reserve of a single cycle or combined cycle gas turbine power plant, and a power generating system for use with said method

An estimation unit can estimate, on a real-time basis, a maximum power generation capacity of a single cycle or combined cycle gas turbine power plant. For example, the actual power output and the maximum power generation capacity can be calculated relying on a mathematical process model. Subsequently, the calculated actual power output can be compared with the measured power output yielding a model-estimation error. Based on the model-estimation error, a correction signal can be deduced, to correct the calculated maximum power generation capacity. A controller can maintain a specified power reserve. The controller can use an estimate of the maximum power generation capacity as a reference, subtract a load offset, and apply the resulting signal as upper limit of the load set-point.

Method for speech processing involving whole-utterance modeling

A speech verification process involves comparison of enrollment and test speech data and an improved method of comparing the data is disclosed, wherein segmented frames of speech are analyzed jointly, rather than independently. The enrollment and test speech are both subjected to a feature extraction process to derive fixed-length feature vectors, and the feature vectors are compared, using a linear discriminant analysis and having no dependence upon the order of the words spoken or the speaking rate. The discriminant analysis is made possible, despite a relatively high dimensionality of the feature vectors, by a mathematical procedure provided for finding an eigenvector to simultaneously diagonalize the between-speaker and between-channel covariances of the enrollment and test data.

Method for dynamical identification of network congestion characteristics

Congestion within a traffic stream of interest in a communication network is characterized as self-induced congestion or cross-induced congestion by analyzing a correlation result of a time series of throughput data of the traffic stream of interest and making the characterization based on power spectrum features found in the correlation result. The correlation result may be obtained through a Fourier analysis, a wavelet analysis or any mathematical process based on locating periodicities in the time series. In some cases, the characterization is made at a node in the communication network that is downstream from the congestion, while in other cases, the characterization is made at a node in the communication network that is upstream of the congestion.

Use of beads on a rope, with a parallel printed sequence

This invention is designed to help students learn to: count, add, subtract, multiply, divide, and learn the multiplication tables, by the use of a rope attached to a narrow board, where this rope contains a variable number of beads of the same size, that can be shifted back and forth. This innovation also uses a printed number sequence that is located parallel to, but above or below the rope and beads that are located on this narrow board. And this rope is permanently attached to a wooden block on the left side of the wood strip. And all beads that are pushed against this left side block are “counters”. And the other beads on this rope are “non-counters”. And when beads become “counters”, the number that appears above each bead gives its number, in a left to right sequence. And the number that appears above each “counter” bead gives the student use visual feedback to help that student learn the math processes noted above.

Method and system for dynamic printer profiling

This presently described embodiment deals with this problem by dynamically constructing color management device profiles that are optimized for accurate reproduction of a particular document. This apparatus utilizes three components. Device characterization data describes the relationship between device drive values (e.g., CMYK in the case of a 4 color printer) and the resulting color (spectral, CIELab, CIEXYZ or similar). Critical document colors are the critical colors in a document that is to be output on the device. The colors will generally be described by their CIELab, CIEXYZ or similar coordinates, but may also include color tolerances and frequency of occurrence values. Device modeling algorithms are mathematical procedures that allow the construction of device-to-color and color-to-device models in a way that different accuracy weightings can be applied in different regions of color space. These components function together to build a device profile in which the errors in the critical document colors are minimized.
