A multicore cable is a type of electrical cable that combines multiple signals or power feeds into a single jacketed cable. The term is normally only used in relation to a cable that has more cores than commonly encountered. Not all cables with multiple insulated conductors are called multicore cables – the core in multicore refers to the number of usable connections made, not the number of conductors or wires. In most cases, a "usable connection" requires multiple conductors, such as the positive and negative conductors used for DC power.

The invention relates to a system for detecting the connectivity of a bank cable and a method thereof. In the system, a primary test end carries out detection through a tested cable together with a secondary test end; the primary test end and the secondary test end respectively comprises a voltage comparator, a test resistor and a singlechip; the singlechip at the primary end is connected to one end of one core wire of the cable through the test resistor, and the other end of the core wire is connected to the singlechip of the secondary end through the test resistor; the ends which are connected with the core wire of the cable, of the test resistances of the primary end and the secondary end are respectively connected with one voltage comparator; the output end of each voltage comparator is connected to the singlechip; when in test, the singlechip at the primary end respectively outputs high level to one core wire of the tested cable and low level to the other core wires of the tested cable, the current passes through the tested resistance, the voltage comparator of each core wire compares the detected voltage value with the reference voltage to obtain a logical result, the logical result is respectively input to the singlechips at the primary end and the secondary end and is comprehensively analyzed so as to judge whether each core wire is in a normal state, a disconnection state, a misconnection state, a state of short-circuit with the ground or a state of short-circuit between conductors.

Simultaneous tracing of multiple phone/data cables

For tracing multi-conductor cable runs from multiple phone/data locations throughout a building or complex to a junction facility where the cables need to be systematically identified and connected to a terminal panel, rapid tracing and identification are accomplished by deploying a large number of special low-cost senders, e.g. a set of forty eight senders, connecting as many senders as required to energize every cable at each location via its standard modular jack. Each sender delivers a unique identification signal, e.g. a spoken number from 1 to 48, energizing a corresponding phone cable and/or data cable. With all of the cables thusly energized simultaneously and distinguishably, a technician working with a proximity probe in the junction facility can rapidly identify and tag and/or connect all the cables in an uninterrupted session, without requiring the usual assistant and intercom link, and with no time wasted probing unenergized cables. For larger systems beyond the tracing capability of the set number of senders, a range switch provides three additional extension ranges with unique identification numbers to preserve a numerical sequence when more than one session is required. As an optional refinement, one or more of the senders may be further equipped to enable wire-mapping of all active conductors in the cables.

Most of electrodes of high-density electrical method detection system are centralized and correspond to cables, the multi-core cable with more than 30 cores is adopted, a cable system is complicated, a control distance between measuring lines is limited, detection precision is low, and reliability is poor. According to the arrangement, an upper computer, silo launch and host control sets, collecting cables and electrodes. The upper computer is connected with the silo launch and host control sets through communication networks. Each collecting cable includes fiver cores comprising two emission wires, one public ground wire and two twisted-pair wires. The electrodes which are loaded with same structures include an emission electrode A, an emission electrode B, a public ground wire electrode M, a public ground wire electrode N and a potential difference collecting electrode. One end of each twisted-pair wire is provided with a terminator. The distributed parallel electrical method data collecting cable device has the advantages that few cores are required, use is reliable, maintenance is convenient, the electrodes, having the data collecting function and the same structures, can serve as the current electrodes as well as the receiving electrodes through the internal circuit switch and after powered, can automatically register and number without manual regulation.
