Dilute phosphorus incorporation into a naphtha reforming catalyst

In order to maintain the surface area of an alumina catalyst over the course of operation and regeneration, a method of incorporating phosphorus into the alumina has been developed. By incorporating a small amount of phosphorus, the resulting catalyst is better able to withstand hydrothermal conditions, such as during a carbon burn step, which causes alumina surface area to degrade or decrease. Reduced surface area also desorbs chloride from the catalyst, lowering activity and increasing corrosion. Here, steam treatments have been used to simulate commercial hydrothermal stability and a critically small amount of phosphorus has been discovered which balances an increased surface area against decreased chloride retention. Increased surface area results from increased phosphorus, yet higher levels of phosphorus blocks ability to hold chloride. Moreover, X-ray data shows that an amount as low as 0.2 wt-% phosphorus increases alumina transition temperature, while pilot plant data shows excellent naphtha reforming yields.

Method and apparatus for generating data for three-dimensional models from x-rays

A computer implemented method, apparatus, and computer usable program code for generating a three-dimensional model of an object of interest in an aircraft. In response to transmitting a plurality of x-rays from a set of transmission points into the aircraft, backscatter x-ray data is received. The object identified from a two-dimensional diagram of the backscatter data. Points for the object are created from the identification of the object in the received data. The points are placed at a first distance from the transmission points to form a first curve. The points are placed at a second distance from the transmission points to form a second curve. A first surface is formed from the first and second curves. A second surface is formed that intersects the first surface to form an intersection. Three-dimensional data is generated for the three-dimensional model of the object from the intersection.

Adaptive anisotropic filtering of projection data for computed tomography

CT imaging is enhanced by adaptively filtering x-ray attenuation data prior to image reconstruction. Detected x-ray projection data are adaptively and anisotropically filtered based on the locally estimated orientation of structures within the projection data from an object being imaged at a plurality of rotation positions. The detected x-ray data are uniformly low pass filtered to preserve the local mean values in the data, while the high pass filtering is controlled based on the estimated orientations. The resulting filtered data provide projection data with smoothing along the structures while maintaining sharpness along edges. Image noise and noise induced streak artifacts are reduced without increased blurring along edges in the reconstructed images. The enhanced image allows reduced x-ray dose while maintaining image quality.
