Aspects and embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a
control system (100), an
automatic transmission system (10), a vehicle (1), a method (900), and computer readable instructions for controlling an
automatic transmission (12) of a vehicle (1), including operating (910) in a second mode in which the
automatic transmission (12) is controlled according to a second shift logic (500, 700), and operating (910) in a second mode in which the automatic transmission (12) is controlled according to a second shift logic (500, 700). A second shift logic (500, 700) defining downshift thresholds for the speed parameter as a function of the accelerator input, where at least two downshift thresholds are defined by a common function, and where the downshift thresholds do not vary with the varying road load; receiving (920) one or more signals indicative of a current road load; determining (930) an exit threshold for the speed parameter based on the current road load; receiving (940) a
signal indicative of a current value of the speed parameter; and switching (960) from operating in the second mode to operating in the first mode in accordance with the current value of the speed parameter exceeding an exit threshold; wherein, in a first mode, the automatic transmission (12) is controlled according to one or more first shift logics (400), the one or more first shift logics (400) defining a downshift threshold associated with each available
gear ratio, where each downshift threshold is defined by a unique function, and where, in the first mode, the one or more first shift logics (400) control the automatic transmission (12) according to the one or more first shift logics (400) defining a downshift threshold associated with each available
gear ratio, where each downshift threshold is defined by a unique function. The downshift threshold varies as a function of the varying road load.
