Sliding reconstitution device for a diluent container

The present invention provides a reconstitution device (10) for placing a first container (12), such as a liquid container (e.g. flexible container or syringe), in fluid communication with a second container (14), such as a drug vial. To this end, there is provided a connector device (10) for establishing fluid communication between the diluent container (12) and the drug vial (14). The connector device (10) has a first sleeve member (32) having a first end (36) and a second end (38). The first sleeve member (32) has at the first end (36), a first attaching member (30) adapted to attach to the liquid container (12). The connector device (10) also has a second sleeve member (34) having a first end (48) and a second end (50). The second sleeve member (34) is movable axially with respect to the first sleeve member (32) from an inactivated position to an activated position. The second sleeve member (34) has a protuberance (66) on an inner surface of the second sleeve member (34). A second attaching member (28) is attached on the second end (50) of the second sleeve member (34) and is adapted to attach to the second container (14). The second attaching member (28) has a sealing member (84). A piercing member (76) is positioned in the chamber and projects within the sleeve members (32,34) for providing a fluid flow path from the first container (12) to the second container (14). The piercing member (76) is moveable from a first position in the inactivated position to a second position in the activated position wherein the piercing member (76) moves past the protuberance (66), the protuberance (66) preventing movement of the piercing member (76) back to the first position. The device (10) is movable from the inactivated position to the activated position by a force generally applied to the device outside the liquid container (12).

Authentication of documents and articles by moiré patterns

The present invention relies on the moiré patterns generated when superposing a base layer made of base band patterns and a revealing line grating (revealing layer). The produced moiré patterns comprise an enlargement and a transformation of the individual patterns located within the base bands. Base bands and revealing line gratings may be rectilinear or curvilinear. When translating or rotating the revealing line grating on top of the base layer, the produced moiré patterns evolve smoothly, i.e. they may be smoothly shifted, sheared, and possibly be subject to further transformations. Base band patterns may incorporate any combination of shapes, intensities and colors, such as letter, digits, text, symbols, ornaments, logos, country emblems, etc. . . . . They therefore offer great possibilities for creating security documents and valuable articles taking advantage of the higher imaging capabilities of original imaging and printing systems, compared with the possibilities of the reproduction systems available to potential counterfeiters. Since the revealing line grating reflects a relatively high percentage of the incident light, the moiré patterns are easily apparent in reflective mode and under normal illumination conditions. They may be used for the authentication of any kinds of documents (banknotes, identity documents, checks, diploma, travel documents, tickets) and valuable articles (optical disks, CDs, DVDs, CD-ROMs, packages for medical drugs, bottles, articles with affixed labels).

Automated pharmacy drug handling and prescription verification system and method

An intake to exit security system for high-volume pharmacies provides maximum security from tampering and assures accuracy. The system immediately assigns bar codes to shipments upon arrival and then tracks them through warehousing, bulk distribution, prescription dispensing and shipping to patients, hospitals and drugstores. Bar-coded lock neck devices secure bulk drug canisters to bar-coded dispensing machines at specified dispensing stations where the machines dispense drugs into pre-labeled prescription bottles according to prescription indicia on the labels. Bottles then undergo content analysis and certification before packaged and shipped to customers. A Ramon laser spectral analysis contrasts the bottle contents to a library of known spectral signatures of drugs, and the pharmacist is alerted to any detected difference. A simultaneously captured visual image of the pills enables the pharmacist visually to compare the contents to a library of known visual appearances of the drugs. Both analyses are recorded for prescriptions certified and forwarded to customers. Deviations are excised without disrupting flow of other prescriptions, and the system automatically reassigns an incorrectly filled prescription to another bottle which starts anew through the system. Full bottles of commonly used drugs and specialized containers for irregularly shaped objects, creams and ointments may be pre-filled and inventoried for later collation with prescription bottles at the packaging and shipping stage.
