Methods and apparatus for routing in a mobile ad hoc network

A “peer-to-peer” hierarchical routing protocol—also referred to as Zone-based Hierarchical Link State Routing protocol (or “ZHLS”)—which incorporates location information into a novel “peer-to-peer” hierarchical routing approach. The network may be divided into non-overlapping zones. Aggregating nodes into zones conceals the detail of the network topology. Initially, each node knows its own position and therefore zone ID through a position determination unit, such as a Global Positioning System (GPS). After the network is established, each node knows the low level (node level) topology about node connectivity within its zone and the high level (zone level) topology about zone connectivity of the whole network. A packet may be forwarded by specifying the hierarchical address—zone ID and node ID—of a destination node in the packet header.

Stage apparatus and control method therefor

A stage apparatus has a stage movable in a first direction and first and second measurement systems measuring a position of the stage in a predetermined direction. The first and second measurement systems each has a laser interferometer and a mirror system including a first reflecting mirror elongated in the first direction. A measurement value is transferred from one measurement system in use to the other measurement system and the measurement system in use is switched between the first and second measurement systems within a overlapping zone where said first and second measurement system can simultaneously measure the position of the stage. In the switch, the measurement value to be transferred is corrected based on a difference in the lengths of the light paths due to a shape of a surface of the first reflecting mirror of the first and second measurement systems.

System and method for dynamic overlap compensation in a simulcast network

A telecommunications system and method is disclosed for deliberately producing synchronous timing jitters in order to dynamically shift the delay spread within the overlap zone in a simulcast system. At a synchronous periodic rate, the timing differential between transmission of the signal from the control point to each of the transmitters can be continuously adjusted to continuously change the relative timing between multiple received signals in the overlap zone. Alternatively, the timing adjustments can be performed only upon reception of a retransmission request. In either case, the timing adjustments are performed so as to not be noticed by the mobile subscriber.

Method for simulating fluid flows within a reservoir by means of a chimera type discretization

Method for simulating flows in reservoirs by means of chimera type grids. The method first consists in generating a chimera grid made up of a set of elementary grids capable of taking account of the various characteristics of the flows and of the geometry (radial grid in the well zone and CPG grid for the reservoir for example) in such a way that their union covers the entire simulation domain and that there is a minimum overlap between two neighbouring elementary grids. Interpolation parameters allowing to connect the flows calculated on this grid to the flows calculated on the neighbouring grids are then determined on the border of each elementary grid. Finally, flows are simulated within the reservoir and the well, and the variables describing the flow on the border of the overlap zones are interpolated using the interpolation parameters. Application: simulators for hydrocarbon reservoirs for example.

Object blocking zones to reduce false alarms in video surveillance systems

Blocking zones of a surveillance system are configured to prevent false alarms caused by motion within the zones, while allowing tracking of objects through the zones. An object that first appears within a blocking zone is not considered to be a reportable object until the object leaves the zone. All reportable objects are tracked, without regard to the blocking zones. Objects that remain within their initial blocking zone are not deemed to be reportable objects, and therefore do not generate alarms. If an object initially appears within overlapping zones, the object is not deemed to be reportable until it leaves each of the zones at least once. The blocking zones do not mask the video images, and thus a complete record of activity is available for forensic purposes.
