Load-controlled device for a patterned skin incision of constant depth

A skin incision device has a casing with a bottom surface and a slot formed therein, a cover positioned on the casing and slidable in a direction toward the bottom surface, a blade positioned in the casing adjacent the slot, an actuator cooperative to a position between the cover and interior of the casing, and a carriage. The actuator engages the blade by its horizontal displacement triggered by slidable movement of the cover toward the bottom surface of the casing. The carriage element guides movement of the blade between a pre-actuated position and a post-actuated position. The blade extends outwardly of the bottom surface with a fixed depth of cut during a horizontal movement of the blade through the slot.

Method and apparatus for separating a pane of brittle material from a moving ribbon of the material

A pane is separated from a moving ribbon of brittle material by restraining the ribbon upstream of a score line prior to separating the pane. The ribbon is restrained by selectively contacting a first side and a second side of the ribbon in one of an opposite, overlapping or offset relation. The ribbon can be restrained prior to, substantially simultaneous with or subsequent to forming the score line. The restrained status of the ribbon is maintained during and immediately after separation of the pane from the ribbon, thereby reducing the introduction of a disturbance or bending moment into the upstream ribbon.

Impact induced crack propagation in a brittle material

A sheet of brittle material, such as glass, flat or bowed, is separated along a score line by applying vibration energy through a probe into previously scored sheet material. The separation time is less than 1 second with smooth edge quality. The brittle material can be in the form of a moving ribbon of glass sheet, where a vibrational load is applied transverse to the score line to enhance crack propagation along the score line. A controller operates the probe at selected vibration frequencies, amplitudes, contact velocities, contact forces of impact, alignment with the score line, and the like, depending on material properties and structure, and depending on optimal process parameters.

Signal processing system with baseband noise modulation and noise filtering

A digital-to-analog converter (“DAC”) system utilizes notch filters and chopping modulation technology to remove l / f and other baseband noise from a baseband of a signal of interest. Chopping modulation and demodulation circuitry of the DAC operate at a chopping frequency and all harmonics equal to approximately one-half of a digital input signal sampling frequency. A notch filter attenuates signals having frequencies around the chopping frequency prior to chopping to reduce fold back of noise into the baseband due to parasitic modulation. Another notch filter attenuating signals having frequencies around twice the chopping frequency further reduces fold back of noise into the baseband.

System and method for selective sharpening of images

Selective Sharpening May Involve Sharpening Only Certain Portions Of an Image Or a certain percentage of the pixels of an image while avoiding over-sharpening already sharp areas and the introduction of signal noise in naturally uniform color and / or sharpness areas. A selective sharpening tool may selectively sharpen the image based on a user-indicated sharpening limit. For example, the user may select a particular portion of an image and specify that the least sharp 30% of the pixels in the selected image portion should be sharpened. In response, the selective sharpening tool may determine a sharpness value for each pixel in the image, rank each pixel based on its sharpness value and sharpen only the least sharp 30% of the pixels. Thus, a user may selectively sharpen a certain portion of an image (such as based on percentage of the pixels) while avoiding overly sharpening already sharp areas.

Bit-stream watermarking

The present invention relates to methods, devices, a media signal and a recorded medium for watermarks embedded in the sub-band domain of compressed media. Watermarks (w[n]) are embedded into the sub-band signals (xi−1[n], xi[n], xi+1[n]) of at least one selected sub-band of a compressed bit-stream (bk) using a watermark inserting unit (18). In this way there is no need to fully decode and re-encode the media signal for embedding the watermark. The watermark is embedded in selected sub-bands (e.g. sub-bands 7-15 of 32). In a preferred embodiment, the selected sub-bands are upsampled before embedding and downsampled therafter to avoid aliasing. The invention also allows embedding multiple watermarks in different sub-bands (e.g. one watermark in sub-bands 7-11, and a different watermark in sub-bands 12-16).

Sheet separation through fluid impact

A sheet of brittle material, such as glass, flat or bowed, is separated along a score line by applying fluid energy (compressed gas or liquid) through a fluid applicator such as a nozzle or directional fluid motivator, into a scored sheet material. A separation time of less than 1 second is possible with smooth edge quality. The brittle material can be in the form of a moving ribbon of glass sheet or a stationary sheet. A load (tension) can be applied transverse to the score line to enhance crack propagation along the score line. A controller controls the fluid pressure, release time and other process parameters for best results, depending on material properties and structure.

Sample adaptive offset (SAO) filter with boundary interpolation

A boundary interpolation method is described for use with band offsets (BO) and largest coding units (LCU) within a video encoder. In BO, for example, very different offsets could otherwise be added to neighboring pixels which result in large discontinuities and visual artifacts. An interpolation, such as linear, is performed between the BO, or the periphery of the LCU, or a combination thereof, to smooth the offset function toward preventing introduction of visual artifacts.
