Method and system for rapid dissemination of public announcements

The present invention provides a method and system for disseminating urgent public announcements over an IP-based network. One or a plurality of Internet- or Intranet-connected servers receive and store data identifying particular geographic locations to current announcements. The servers identify IP addresses of users making URL requests or requests for target applications (an access point by which a network-connectable mobile device is connected to an Internet- or Intranet-connected server), determine a location for each user from the user's IP address (or access point), and determine whether an IP address (or access point) of a user corresponds to a location for which an announcement has been posted. If the user is identified to a location for which a current announcement is available, the announcement is displayed to the user. The announcement may be displayed by redirecting the user to a web page containing the announcement. Alternatively, the announcement may be displayed in a pop-up window or in a banner on a web page requested by said user. A banner displaying such an announcement may incorporate a link to permit the user to click through to a web page containing a more detailed version of the announcement.

Method and system for processing downstream packets of an optical network

Unlike the conventional art which polices data at the entry points of a network, a transceiver node can police or monitor downstream bandwidths for quality of service at exit portions of an optical network. That is, the transceiver node can police downstream communication traffic near the outer edges of an optical network that are physically close to the subscribers of the optical network. In this way, a network provider can control the volume or content (or both) of downstream communications that are received by subscribers of the optical network. In addition to controlling the volume of communications that can be received by a subscriber, the transceiver node employs a plurality of priority assignment values for communication traffic. Some priority assignment values are part of a weighted random early discard algorithm that enables an output buffer to determine whether to drop data packets that are destined for a particular subscriber. In one exemplary embodiment, a weighted random early discard (WRED) priority value can be assigned according to the type of communication traffic supported by a packet.

Vibrating debris remover

This invention relates to a device which is either permanently attached or removable to the edge of a material such as a vehicular glass window. This device may be comprised of a converter sub-unit (vibrator) and an amplifying coupler. These elements are arranged so as to propagate mechanical motion generated by the converter sub-unit through the amplifying coupler and into the edge of the attached material. The resulting vibration motion in the material, which could take the form of a longitudinal compression / rarefaction wave, transverse wave, or a combination of the two waveforms, is of a sufficient magnitude so as to cause the adhesive bond between the material's surface and other solid debris, such as ice, to be quickly broken. This allows the debris to fall away while not damaging the material. The vibration motion in the material is also of sufficient magnitude to remove a liquid such as water from the material surface.

Dental implant and head for a compaction drill

InactiveUS20050100861A1Strong and tight bonding effectImprove bindingDental implantsDental toolsBone tissueDentures
A dental implant includes a fixture and an abutment in a body, and a head for a compaction drill is configured for implanting such an implant. The implant includes an upper abutment portion on which a denture is fixed, a fixture portion implanted in the jawbone and forming single or double threads, and a settling portion formed between the abutment portion and the fixture portion. The invention improves the stability of the implant, improves stabilization of the bone tissue affixed to the implant, effectively seals the socket from its surroundings and facilitates bonding between implant and jawbone. This is achieved because of the early healing of tissue around the implant and the greater surface area in contact with surrounding tissue. As a result, an artificial crown may be coupled with the implant during the same surgery.
