Method, user equipment and radio base station for random access in a cellular telecommunications system technical field of the invention

The present invention relates to a random access process in a cellular communications system and to a user equipment (UE) and a NodeB adapted for performing the process. A problem with the random access is that the time slot for receiving a random access request (RA-request) has a long unused guard portion. When the UE transmits the RA-request, the distance to the receiving NodeB is unknown, and the purpose of the guard portion is to accommodate for propagation delay. The disadvantage is the inefficient use of the random access channel which results in long delays for UEs to access the network. The present invention solves the problem with a method in which the UE position is determined and the distance and propagation delay between the UE and NodeB is calculated before the transmission of the RA-request, and the timing of the transmission is advanced by the propagation delay.

Method and apparatus for shortening the critical path of reduced complexity sequence estimation techniques

A method and apparatus are disclosed for improving the processing time of reduced complexity sequence estimation techniques, such as reduced state sequence estimation. Precomputing the branch metrics for all possible symbol combinations in the channel memory makes it possible to remove the branch metrics unit and decision-feedback unit from the feedback loop, thereby reducing the critical path. A set of multiplexers select the appropriate branch metrics based on the survivor symbols in the corresponding survivor path cells. The computational load of the precomputations is reduced for multi-dimensional trellis codes by precomputing each dimension of the multi-dimensional trellis code separately. A hybrid survivor memory architecture is also disclosed for a RSSE for a channel having a channel memory of length L, where the survivors corresponding to the L past decoding cycles are stored in a register exchange architecture (REA), and survivors corresponding to later decoding cycles are stored in a trace-back architecture (TBA) or REA.

Expert system for medical diagnosis

An expert system, in particular for medical diagnosis, includes a memory 2 for storing a plurality of hypotheses. The hypotheses are arranged in a first and second disjoint group of hypotheses. The memory stores questions for rejecting hypotheses of the second group. An output 3 is used for supplying questions to a user. A input 4 is used for receiving initial data and answers to questions. A processor 5 is programmed to select questions from the stored questions for those hypotheses from the second group that are possible in dependence on the initial data. The processor also determines from answer(s) received in response to outputting the selected questions whether at least one of the hypotheses of the second group is possible. In response to determining that no hypothesis of the second group is possible, the processor supplies a most likely hypothesis of the first group.

Method and apparatus for controlling t1 recovery process in magnetic resonance measurements

Radiation damping (RD) is employed to hasten the recovery of longitudinal magnetization after RF excitation and signal readout in a magnetic resonance measurement cycle. A switch driven by the pulse sequence that performs the measurement cycle energizes a feedback RF coil driven by an amplified and phase shifted portion of the received MR signal. The recovery of longitudinal magnetization is thus under direct control of the MR system and enables the reduction of the otherwise inefficient waiting times that are required for natural T1 recovery of the excited spin magnetization. This enables shortened acquisition times, improved sensitivity, better spatial and temporal resolution, and reduction of motion artifacts that result from long acquisition times.

Magnetic resonance imaging device

A first pulse sequence is executed on an imaging portion of an object to be examined using a multiple receiving coils including a plurality of receiving coils to obtain sensitivity images 701 to 703, each of n in number, which is smaller than the number of examination image. When those sensitivity images are calculated, NMR signals are measured only in a low-frequency region of a k space. Next, a second pulse sequence is executed while phase encoding steps are thinned out to acquire examination images 704 and 705, each of m in number (m>n), of the object with each receiving coil. When sensitivity distributions 707 and 708 are generated on the basis of sensitivity images 701 to 703, if a sensitivity distribution on a slice corresponding to examination images 704 and 705 is not yet measured, it is calculated with a slice interpolation processing on the basis of sensitivity distributions 701 to 703, and an aliasing artifact in examination images 704 and 705 are removed using sensitivity distributions 707 and 708 with a matrix calculation.

Micro-arrayed organization of transcription factor target genes

The following invention outlines methodologies for the construction and utilization of transcription factor direct target gene microarrays of both DNA and corresponding protein / peptide target origin. The technology entails the array / microarray annotation and organization of transcription factor direct loci and corresponding protein products identified through modified and improved versions of chromosomal immunoprecipitation (CHIP) and molecular cloning procedures. It allows for the formulation of physiologically directed arrays which result in a thorough, focused characterization of the genetic and biochemical regulation occurring within a give population of cells or a given tissue. Arrays and microarrays of direct targets for any given transcription factor created utilizing this technology are substantially more clinically relevant for purposes of medical diagnostics and patient prognostics than conventional microarrays due to the physiologically focused nature and the transcription factor targets. In addition, the characterization and array organization of transcription factor target protein products and the assessment of their interactions with other proteins and / or small molecules is of critical importance for the purposes of understanding cellular and ultimately the design of therapeutics for human anomalies.

Image animation with transitional images

InactiveUS20090058863A1Decrease the perceived abruptness associatedReducing sequenceAnimationAnimationWeight factor
A technique is provided for animating an image or a portion of an image. In accordance with this technique, intermediary or transitional images, referred to as offset images, are displayed as part of an animation step to lessen abrupt changes in pixel values. In one embodiment, the offset images are generated using a weighted average of proximate pixels. In such an embodiment, the weight factor may take into account the distance of the offset from the proximate pixels such that closer pixels are more heavily weighted. Based on the direction of movement for the animation, the offset images are ordered and displayed as part of the animation steps of an animation sequence.

Sine-wave current line-start three-phase rare-earth permanent magnet synchronous motor

A sine-wave current line-start three-phase rare-earth permanent magnet synchronous motor includes a motor shaft, a rotor and a stator. The rotor is disposed inside the stator and rotates around the motor shaft. The rotor includes P pairs of poles. Each pole includes a polar arched surface. A planar surface is formed between adjacent polar arched surfaces. Thus, a non-uniform air gap is formed between the pole face of the rotor and the inner circumferential surface of the stator. By the use of a salient-pole structure with the non-uniform air gap, the asymmetry of the magnetic circuit caused by permanent magnets can be offset, thereby making the manufacturing process of the rotor simplified, the negative sequence components of the rotor current during the line starting process reduced significantly, the starting performance improved, the sine-wave current provided during the operating process, the harmonic loss reduced, and the motor efficiency enhanced.
