Silicon-on-insulator wafer transfer method using surface activation plasma immersion ion implantation for wafer-to-wafer adhesion enhancement

A method of fabricating a semiconductor-on-insulator structure from a pair of semiconductor wafers, includes forming an oxide layer on at least a first surface of a first one of the wafers and performing a bonding enhancement implantation step by ion implantation of a first species in the first surface of at least either of the pair of wafers. The method further includes performing a cleavage ion implantation step on one of the pair of wafers by ion implanting a second species to define a cleavage plane across a diameter of the wafer at the predetermined depth below the top surface of the one wafer. The wafers are then bonded together by placing the first surfaces of the pair of wafers onto one another so as to form an semiconductor-on-insulator structure. The method also includes separating the one wafer along the cleavage plane so as to remove a portion of the one wafer between the second surface and the cleavage plane, whereby to form an exposed cleaved surface of a remaining portion of the one wafer on the semiconductor-on-insulator structure. Finally, the cleaved surface is smoothed, preferably by carrying out a low energy high momentum ion implantation step.

Chemical oxygen iodine laser gain generator system

The COIL gain generator system includes a reactor for producing singlet delta oxygen and a mechanism for mixing high momentum diluent with the singlet delta oxygen and with iodine for producing a high momentum, low static temperature mixture of the singlet delta oxygen, diluent and iodine. The singlet delta oxygen and the iodine react to produce excited iodine atoms which can lase efficiently due to the low static temperature and can, after lasing, recover to high pressure in a diffuser due to the high momentum of the mixture. This provides the capability of using a chemical pump which allows a completely sealed system with no outside exhaust.

Low drag asymmetric tetrahedral vortex generators

An asymmetric tetrahedral vortex generator that provides for control of three-dimensional flow separation over an underlying surface by bringing high momentum outer region flow to the wall of the structure using the generated vortex. The energized near-wall flow remains attached to the structure surface significantly further downstream. The device produces a swirling flow with one stream-wise rotation direction which migrates span-wise. When optimized, the device produces very low base drag on structures by keeping flow attached on the leeside surface thereof. This device can: on hydraulic structures, prevent local scour, deflect debris, and reduce drag; improve heat transfer between a flow and an adjacent surface, i.e., heat exchanger or an air conditioner; reduce drag, flow separation, and associated acoustic noise on airfoils, hydrofoils, cars, boats, submarines, rotors, etc. during subsonic or supersonic conditions; and, reduce radar signatures by using faceted edges with angles amenable to stealth technologies.

Fuel cell system with mixer/eductor

A fuel cell system containing a mixer / eductor for reducing the pressure difference between the gases in the anode and cathode-sides of a fuel cell stack. The mixer / eductor is placed at the mixing point between the anode tail or exhaust fuel gas and the fresh air or oxidant supply gas inlet. The incoming oxidant pressure is converted to a high momentum stream to form a suction on the fuel exhaust gas. This suction compensates for pressure losses in the gas piping and the oxidizer used to burn the exhaust fuel gas resulting in substantial balancing of the anode and cathode-side gas pressures. The mixer / eductor can be in the form of an axial or annular jet pump unit, both of which are advantageous in aggressively mixing the fuel exhaust gas with the incoming oxidant or air. The mixer / eductor geometry can be varied to provide the proper suction to balance pressures over a chosen range of operating conditions. Additionally, the incoming fresh air flow rate or an oxidant exhaust recycle flow rate can be varied to actively balance pressures at any operating point.

Centrifugal turbomachines having extended performance ranges

Centrifugal turbomachines, such a centrifugal compressors, centrifugal blower, and centrifugal pumps, having unique treatments that enhance their performance ranges. In one arrangement, the treatment involves injecting a relatively high-momentum flow proximate to the blade-tip clearance gap at the inlet to the impeller of the turbomachine in a manner that reenergizes flow at the gap. The injected high-momentum flow can be taken from a location downstream of the outlet of the impeller and / or from a flow external to the turbomachine. In another arrangement, the non-self-bleed-type treatment involves providing the centrifugal turbomachine with a secondary flow path upstream of the inlet to the impeller. In one example, the flow of working fluid to the secondary flow path is modulated according to the mass flow of the working fluid. During times of higher flow, the secondary flow path is opened, and at times of lower flow, the secondary flow path is closed.

Complete mixing W type flame boiler combustion exhausted wind apparatus

A full-mixing overfire air device of a W-shaped flame boiler relates to an overfire air device of a boiler. The invention aims to solve the problems of the prior W-shaped flame boiler adopting overfire air nozzles in direct flow structure form, such as higher carbon content in fly ash resulting from the fact that the gas and pulverized coal in the jet flow of the conventional boiler are unlikely to be mixed with those between adjacent jet flows due to the poor lateral diffusion capacity. The higher carbon content in the ash can lower the heat efficiency of the boiler and increase coal consumption of power plants. One end of an outer air channel of the overfire air device is fixed on the outer side wall of an upper furnace at an overfire air nozzle, wherein the overfire air accounts for 25 to 30% of the total amount of air fed into the boiler. The overfire air is divided into two portions when entering the overfire air channel, one portion enters an inner air channel and is ejected to the furnace to achieve higher momentum, and the other portion enters the outer air channel to achieve higher rotation intensity, so that the two portions of the overfire air can achieve higher lateral diffusion capacity when entering the upper furnace and can be mixed with gas between two adjacent portions of the overfire air jet flow.
