A reed relay is a type of relay that uses an electromagnet to control one or more reed switches. The contacts are of magnetic material and the electromagnet acts directly on them without requiring an armature to move them. Sealed in a long, narrow glass tube, the contacts are protected from corrosion. The glass envelope may contain multiple reed switches or multiple reed switches can be inserted into a single bobbin and actuate simultaneously. Reed switches have been manufactured since the 1930s.

The food-passing method comprises the steps of: 1) a service plate containing food is put into the food-passing container, a table number is input, a digital tube displays the table number, and a liquid crystal displays the food name; 2) the microcontroller controls a stepping motor to work, and the stepping motor lifts the food-passing container; 3) the microcontroller controls the servo motors to work so as to drive the two wheels to move towards a target dining table; 4) after a magnetic field, a reed relay is closed, and when the value of a counter is equal to the table number, the two wheels arrives the part above the target dining table; 5) the stepping motor rotation shaft drives the food-passing container to decrease, and a food taking port is closed of the food is taken out; and 6) the food-passing container rises to the original height again, and servo motors return to the original positions. The food-passing robot is safe, highly-efficient, convenient to operate and intelligent.

A new board mounted electromechanical device is provided that mounts to a relay substrate to form a low profile reed relay. The reed relay is electrically connected to the electrical contacts via a signal traces and additional electrical traces located on the same side of the relay substrate which connect to the relay's signal and shielding. Additional traces on both sides of the signal traces of the reed relay provide a co-planar wave guide to maintain the desired impedance of the signal path. The reed relay is mounted in an inverted manner into a cut-out in the main circuit board so that the other portion of the reed relay itself is sits within the cut-out in the main circuit board. As a result, the reed relay component is recessed below the surface of the main circuit board resulting in an overall low profile circuit board.
