The invention relates to glass platelet-based nacreous pigments which are characterized by the following layer structure: A) optionally an SiO2 layer, B) a highly refractive coating having a refractive index n > 1.8 and substantially consisting of TiO2, C) a low refractive-index layer containing SiO2 and/or AI2O3 and optionally D) an outer protective layer. The invention also relates to the use of these pigments in paints, lacquers, car paints, coating powders, printing inks, security printing inks, plastic materials, ceramic materials, glasses, papers, in toners for electrophotographic printing processes, in seeds, in greenhouse films and tarpaulins, as absorbing agents used in laser marking of paper and plastic materials, as absorbing agents used in laser welding of plastic materials, in cosmetic formulations, for producing pigment pasting compounds with water, organic and/or aqueous solvents, for producing pigment preparations and dry preparations.
