Charging Control Providing Correction of Charging Control Information

There is proposed a charging control in which a policy and charging control function provides first (preliminary) charging control information, such as PCC rules, when the communication connection is set up or modified. Then, service information can be retrieved leading to an updated set of charging control information. The policy and charging control function provides then the updated charging control information for enforcement, wherein the charging system is informed about both the preliminary nature of the first charging control information and the validity of the second charging control information for a time before the update, i.e. before the transmission of the second charging control information. The charging system can use this updated charging control information and knows that it has to replace the former charging control information, so that the charging procedure can be corrected accordingly. Thus, charging of a service miming on the communication connection on the basis of correct charging control information is possible over the complete time the service is running.

Engine Cranking System and Method

A vehicle has an engine, a starter motor, an energy storage system (ESS) for powering an auxiliary system, and a supercapacitor module for powering the starter motor during engine cranking and starting. The supercapacitor module disconnects from the starter motor to recharge. A DC-DC booster converter increases the level of voltage supplied from the ESS so as to charge the supercapacitor module to a relatively higher voltage level, such as approximately 125 to 140 percent of the voltage level supplied by the ESS. A method for preventing voltage sag in an auxiliary system of the vehicle includes disconnecting the supercapacitor module from the starter motor when the engine is running, and then charging the supercapacitor module using the ESS until a cranking support voltage equals a stored target voltage. A detected commanded cranking and starting of the engine causes the connection of the supercapacitor module to the starter motor.

Battery charger capable of accurately detecting battery temperature for full charge determination

A full charge condition of a battery is determined based on a battery temperature gradient computed at every sampling time based on two values of detected battery temperatures. However, the battery temperature detected when the level of a charge current is switched does not exhibit an accurate temperature of the battery due to contact resistance existing in contact portion of a battery side terminal and a charger side terminal, resulting in inaccurate detection of the full charge condition. A microcomputer corrects the battery temperatures detected after the level of the charge current is switched and the full charge determination is made through computation of the battery temperature gradient using the corrected battery temperatures.

Method and apparatus for charging oil into fluid-dynamic-pressure bearings, spindle motor utilizing fluid-dynamic-pressure bearings, and signal record-and-playback device utilizing fluid-dynamic-pressure bearings

Manufacturing method enabling optimal volume oil-fill even where differing from bearing to bearing due to machining fluctuations in volume-production dynamic pressure bearings. In a first charging method, injection of oil is divided into two cycles. The first is carried out under reduced pressure, following which the pressure is raised a predetermined amount to force the oil into the bearing gap. The oil-fill status is thereupon checked, the shortage is reckoned, and in the second cycle the shortage is injected. In a second charging method, in a first cycle a surplus volume is injected under reduced pressure and the pressure is raised a predetermined amount to force the oil into the bearing gap. Following that, what is in excess of the appropriate amount is removed from the bearing. The first cycle of injection and the pressure elevation may be implemented multiple times, in between which repeat pressure-reduction can be carried out.

Method and Apparatus for Controlling Charging in a Communication Network

A method and apparatus for controlling a present service charging session for charging service usage in a communication network. The method comprises receiving a first request for grant of a reservation service unit quota from a charging client, the first request including at least data identifying an account to charge for the service usage. A first granted service unit quota for the first request is determined and a first carry-over service units quota from a previous service charging session associated with the identified account is accessed. A first reservation service unit quota is determined by deducting the first carry-over service units quota from the first granted service unit quota. According to the method it is reserved for the first reservation service unit quota from the account and the first granted service unit quota is sent to the charging client. Further, a clearing request is received from the charging client including data enabling a first used amount of service units to be determined. An outstanding service unit quota is determined by deducting the first carry-over service unit quota from the first used amount of service unit and the outstanding service unit quota from the account is deducting for. An advantage is that for example mechanisms for reducing resource usage in the communication network, such as for example Quota-Holding-Time defined in 3GPP 32.299, may be used and still get a correct charging of used services thereby avoiding premature denial of service when the account is extinct.
