An absorbent article, such as a sanitary napkin, includes a top sheet and a back sheet with an absorbent core sandwiched therebetween. To decrease transverse leakage, a channeled acquisition distribution layer is placed between the absorbent core and the top sheet. The acquisition distribution layer has apertures and channels open toward the top sheet extending in the longitudinal or machine direction of the article. The channels have a lower permeability through the layer than the remaining portions of the acquisition distribution layer by containing less apertures or by melting the channels so that material fills in substantially all of the apertures in the channels. In further embodiments, the channels may be impermeable and extend substantially the full length of the acquisition distribution layer.

Channeling fluidic waveguide surfaces and tubes

Waveguide or flow guide surfaces can improve the efficiency of fluid flow through tubes or over surfaces. When incorporated in a tube, the waveguides improve flow and function as sound absorbers making them useful in engine mufflers, firearm silencer / suppressors and jet engine exhaust attenuators. On surfaces, the waveguides can reduce fluid drag and find use on projectiles (e.g., bullets), airfoils for aircraft, and land borne vehicles. The waveguide array in either a tubular chamber or on a surface comprises a plurality of successive wave-like undulations inclined generally in the direction of flow and when employed in tubes extending inwardly to permit an unobstructed path for the fluid gas from entry to exit. The waves define annular wave cavities between their successive inwardly extending edges and the wall of the chamber with each cavity having a cavity mouth open to the unobstructed path. The waveguides are sized and spaced so that gas vortices are created within the cavities when gas flow occurs which vortices create a fluid boundary layer that assists the gas flow.

CVD reactor with energy efficient thermal-radiation shield

A Siemens type CVD reactor device is provided. One or more radiation shields are disposed between a rod filament and a cooled wall in the reactor. The radiation shield absorbs radiant heat emanating from the heated polysilicon rod during the CVD process, gets heated above 400° C., re-radiate the absorbed heat toward both of the polysilicon rod and the cooled wall, so as to provide thermal shielding effect to the cooled wall. The net energy loss of the polysilicon rod is reduced as much as the amount of energy emitted toward the polysilicon rod from the radiation shield, such that considerable amount of electrical energy of the CVD reactor is reduced and saved. The energy reduction rate goes up much higher if using multiple layered radiation shields, low shielding emissivity, and low thermal conductivity together. The purity of the manufactured polysilicon can be maintained by using thermal shielding material that is stable in a high temperature such as graphite, silicon carbide-coated graphite, and silicon.

Method to Regulate temperature and Reduce Heat Island Effect

The present invention relates to a method of regulating and controlling surface temperature of concrete or asphalt structure (the structure) and the like, as well as atmospheric or air temperature around the structure by encapsulating and containing temperature (thermal) control materials (TCMs) or / and water in the structure which constructs or constitutes pavements, roofs, parking lots, walls and the like. Volume ratio of water and one or more TCMs encapsulated and contained in the structure are from 0.01% to 99.99%. Based on simulation analysis, on one hand, the present invention, in summertime, can reduce the highest temperature on surface of the structure by up to 56.5% (reduced by about 46° C.), and reduce the highest temperature of air around the structure by up to 54.4% (reduced by about 48° C.), therefore “heat island” effect in urban areas in summer can significantly be reduced, thus saving cooling energy and benefiting human health. On the other hand, in wintertime, by the invention the surface temperature of the structure can be raised by up to 5.6° C., and the temperature of air around the structure can be raised by up to 5° C., accordingly heating energy demand is reduced.
