Aural similarity measuring system for text

The aural similarity measuring system and method provides a measure of the aural similarity between a target text (10) and one or more reference texts (11). Both the target text (10) and the reference texts (11) are converted into a string of phonemes (15) and then one or other of the phoneme strings are adjusted (16) so that both are equal in length. The phoneme strings are compared (12) and a score generated representative of the degree of similarity of the two phoneme strings. Finally, where there is a plurality of reference texts the similarity scores for each of the reference texts are ranked (13). With this aural similarity measuring system the analysis is automated thereby reducing risks of errors and omissions. Moreover, the system provides an objective measure of aural similarity enabling consistency of comparison in results and reproducibility of results.

Method and apparatus for priming an extracorporeal blood circuit

A method and apparatus for priming an extracorporeal blood circuit, in which the patient end of an arterial line (79) is connected to a first discharge port (61), and the patient end of a venous line (87) is connected to a second discharge port (62). The two discharge ports are connected to a used dialysate line which connects a dialyser (33) to a drain. The arterial and venous lines are filled with a priming fluid, while the air contained in the arterial and venous lines is evacuated partly through the first discharge port and partly through the second discharge port. Two check valves (65, 66) prevent flow from the used dialysate line towards the two discharge ports. The invention reduces the risk of errors on the part of an operator readying the priming configuration, as well as the risk of contamination of the extracorporeal circuit during the priming phase.

Method and apparatus for controlled feeding of an infant

A method and apparatus for controlled feeding of an infant provides a safer and less expensive apparatus for the enteral feeding of a neonatal infant, as well as a mechanism for minimizing separation of fluid for any enteral feeding patient. The apparatus allows for dispensing the feeding solution from conventional baby bottles or breast pump reservoirs, or other convenient reservoirs in combination with a peristaltic pump. The feeding system helps reduce the risk for contaminating the feeding solution by minimizing the handling of the feeding solution. By utilizing a pump which is less expensive than current neonatal feeding pumps, the feeding system is more cost effective in all environments and more suitable for home use.

Device for centering and guiding a drill bit of a dental handpiece

A device for centering and guiding at least one drill bit of a dental handpiece when drilling a hole in the jaw of a patient in cooperation with a surgical guide equipped with a tubular drill bushing. A support holds a tubular guide sleeve permanently in a coaxial and sliding position with respect to the drill bit. The tubular guide sleeve is able to engage with slight play in the tubular drill bushing. The support insures the engagement of the guide sleeve in the tubular drill bushing at the latest when the drill bit starts to drill in the patient's jaw, thus insuring the centering and guiding of the drill bit.

Ad hoc one-time pairing of remote devices using online audio fingerprinting

Participants of a phone conference can share electronic data without a need to exchange passwords to link two devices nor to login to access data. The invention is resistant to eavesdropping, and provides methods, devices and systems to easily and automatically find, identify and authenticate participants on a computer network for electronic data exchange. Samples of the audio are used to create a stream of audio fingerprints which are sent to a matching service. This matching service finds the fingerprints that correspond to the same conversation, and exchanges identifiers. When instructed by the user, the device can setup a secure data connection.

Disclosed are methods and compositions for closing and sealing a wound, laceration, incision, or other percutaneous opening using an adhesive. In one preferred embodiment, the sides of the percutaneous opening are brought together in apposition and the adhesive is applied topically over the apposed opening and the skin adjacent thereto. Adhesives used in the methods of the preferred embodiments exhibit sufficient viscosity to substantially prevent flow of the adhesive into the percutaneous opening. Adhesives may also be used in surgical applications, as a covering for a trauma to the outer surface of the skin, or as a secondary means of closure in combination with other means of closure, including staples and sutures. In a preferred embodiment, the adhesive is a adhesive comprising cyanoacrylate monomer, cyanoacrylate polymer, and a plasticizer.

Ad hoc one-time pairing of remote devices using online audio fingerprinting

A system and method for sharing electronic data between participants of a phone conference, such as an online presentation, without a need to exchange passwords to link two devices together for data transfer nor go through a login procedure to access the data resource. To achieve this, the participants use a device or software application that samples the audio of the phone conversation and creates a stream of audio fingerprints. The streams of fingerprints are sent to a matching service on the internet. This matching service finds the fingerprints that correspond to the same conversation among the streams of simultaneous users. Once a match is found with a high enough confidence level, the matching service exchanges identifiers such as public IP addresses and sends those back to the fingerprinting units. When instructed by the user, the units can then proceed to setup a secure data connection.

Method for locating an element of interest contained in a three-dimensional object, in particular during a stereotactic investigation in the X-ray examination of the breast

The stereotaxic images being digitized, a target pixel in a target region of interest is selected, a target window of chosen dimensional characteristics and containing the said target region of interest is generated around the selected target pixel, a set of pixels is determined in a second image, according to a predetermined selection criterion, a second window, of the same dimensional characteristics as the said target window, is generated around each selected pixel, a correlation processing between the grey-scale levels of the pixels of each second window and the grey-scale levels of the pixels of the target window is carried out so as to obtain a correlation value for each second window, and the region of interest homologous to the target region of interest is identified on the basis of the analysis of the set of correlation values thus obtained, so as to minimize the risks of matching error between the homologous regions of interest. The element of interest is then located on the basis of the positions of the two homologous regions.

Based on the discovered operating errors under all basic operating mode s for advanced boiling water reactor, a suitable quantification analytical model is employed to fast assess the risk situation for the discovered operating errors and quantified results are used to differentiate the risk rating for the operating errors. This is used to determine the necessity and urgency for the corrective measures to respond to the errors. The adopted quantification analytical model is the safety assessment (Probabilistic Risk Assessment, PRA) model for all basic operating mode s for advanced boiling water reactor, including power operation, low power operation and shutdown for major repairs. For the discovered operating error during power operation period, the invention uses the specifically developed safety assessment model for plant event, earthquake, flood and fire to determine risk effect for the discovered operating error on different event to manifest the risk characteristics for the discovered operating error and match the quantification results to existing plant design, operation and maintenance conditions.

The invention relieves an application programmer of the responsibility for managing access rights, by providing application code that is independent of the protection in a chip card. When an application, for example in a docking station, is given access to an object pertaining to another application in a chip card, two capabilities are created respectively in the applications, as objects, to protect all subsequent accesses to the object by filtering them through the two capabilities. On accessing an object pertaining to an application, if a second object pertaining to the other application is passed on to the latter, two other capabilities are added in the applications to protect access to the second object.

Visualising multiple time zones

This disclosure concerns visualising multiple time zones in a calendar. A processor receives trip data that identifies a trip day, a first time zone of a departure location and a second time zone of an arrival location. The processor determines time gained or time lost due to travelling from the first time zone into the second time zone and causes the display of a time range and a graphical element. The time range represents the trip day with time values extending to the end of the trip day. The end of the trip day is relative to the first time zone. The graphical element extends from the day change and has an extension based on the difference between first and second time zones, such that the graphical element indicates the determined time gained or time lost due to travelling from the first time zone into the second time zone.
