Partial Page Fail Bit Detection in Flash Memory Devices

A flash memory device, and a method of operating the same, is disclosed. The array of the flash memory device is arranged in pages of memory cells, each page having memory cells associated into groups of memory cells within the page for purposes of fail bit detection in program verification. For example, these groups may correspond to sectors within the page. In a programming operation, the verify process determines whether each group of memory cells within the page has fewer than a selected ignore bit limit for the sector. If not, additional programming is required for the insufficiently programmed cells in the page. By applying a fail bit detection threshold for each of multiple groups within the page, the efficiency of error correction coding in the flash memory is improved. A similar verify and fail bit detection approach may be used in erase and soft programming operations.

LNT regeneration strategy over normal truck driving cycle

Partial denitrations are made practical by an SCR catalyst placed downstream of a NOx adsorber. The SCR catalyst permits partial denitrations to be extended to where a favorable fuel penalty rate presented by driving conditions can be utilized to a sufficient extent that the benefit of the favorable conditions is not offset by the increased start-up fuel penalty associated with conducting opportunistic partial denitrations. Regenerations, including both denitration and desulfations, can be initiated selectively based on a fuel penalty calculation. Examples of such calculations lead to methods in which opportunistic regenerations are based on low oxygen concentrations, condition existing while shifting gears, and throttling events for a diesel engine with a throttled air supply. The methods flexibly take advantage of driving conditions to reduce fuel penalties associated with regenerations. In one embodiment, driving conditions include future conditions predicted based on GPS and map data.

Data processing apparatus and method for managing snoop operations

The present invention provides a data processing apparatus and method for managing snoop operations. The data processing apparatus has a plurality of processing units for performing data processing operations requiring access to data in shared memory, with at least two of the processing units having a cache associated therewith for storing a subset of the data for access by that processing unit. A snoop-based cache coherency protocol is employed to ensure data accessed by each processing unit is up-to-date, and when an access request is issued the cache coherency protocol is referenced in order to determine whether a snoop process is required. Snoop control storage is provided which defines a plurality of snoop schemes, each snoop scheme defining a series of snoop phases to be performed to implement the snoop process, and each snoop phase requiring a snoop operation to be performed on either a single cache or multiple caches. When a snoop process is required, a snoop unit is used to reference the snoop control storage in order to identify, having regard to one or more properties of the access request, the snoop scheme to be employed to perform the snoop process. Such an approach provides a great deal of flexibility with regards to how snoop processes are implemented, in particular allowing different snoop schemes to be used dependent on the properties of the access request in question.

Method of fast encoder decision in 3D video coding

Multi-view video encoding using early Merge mode decision and / or early CU split termination is disclosed. The present invention encodes a current coding block using the Merge / Skip mode without evaluating coding performance for at least one of Inter modes and Intra modes if the coding conditions associated with the current coding block and a neighboring block set of the current coding block are asserted. The coding conditions may correspond to whether the coding performance of the Skip mode is better than the coding performance of 2N×2N Merge mode for the current coding block and whether all blocks in the neighboring block set select the Merge mode or the Skip mode. Similarly, the process of splitting the current coding block into smaller coding blocks can be terminated without evaluating coding performance associated with the smaller coding blocks from splitting the current coding block if some coding conditions are asserted.

Method and apparatus for determining the stability of an electroless plating bath

The stability of an electroless plating bath for depositing a metal (e.g., nickel) is determined by titrating a sample of the plating bath with a titrant comprising ions of a catalytic metal (e.g., palladium) and detecting hydrogen released at the titration endpoint. The quantity of titrant required to attain the endpoint provides a measure of the stability of the electroless plating bath.

Data processing apparatus and method for processing a received workload in order to generate result data

A data processing apparatus and method are provided for processing a received workload in order to generate result data. A thread group generator generates from the received workload a plurality of thread groups to be executed to process the received workload. Each thread group consists of a plurality of threads, and at least one thread group has an inter-thread dependency existing between the plurality of threads. Each thread may be either an active thread whose output is required to form the result data, or a dummy thread required to resolve the inter-thread dependency for one of the active threads but whose output is not required to form the result data. The thread group generator identifies for each thread group any dummy thread within that thread group. A thread execution unit then executes each thread within a thread group received from the thread group generator by executing a predetermined program comprising a plurality of program instructions. Execution flow modification circuitry is responsive to the received thread group having at least one dummy thread, to cause the thread execution unit to selectively omit at least part of the execution of at least one of the plurality of instructions when executing each dummy thread, in dependence on control information associated with the predetermined program. In one particular embodiment the received workload is a graphics rendering workload and the thread execution unit performs graphics rendering operations in order to generate as the result data pixel values and associated control values. Such an approach can yield significant improvements in performance, as well as reducing power consumption.

Method of rapid neural response measurement without amplitude attenuation

A method of recording neural responses reduces the inaccuracy of the recordings caused by nerve adaptation to repeated exposure of stimuli. In one embodiment, a maximum set of X number of successive stimuli are delivered through an electrode and the resulting neural response recorded and, afterwards, the next stimulation must occur through another electrode. This stimulation sequence prevents the same set of nerves from being stimulated too often, which can result in stimulus adaptation and cause measurement inaccuracy. In one embodiment of the invention, a smart software can be employed to provide visual plots of “growth curves”, including real-time calculated datapoints and their confidence intervals, and automatically terminate the recording session upon reaching a pre-set trigger. Alternatively, a human operator can terminate a recording session, based on visual feedback of growth curves, including their real-time calculated datapoints and confidence intervals.
