The invention relates to a novel moderator instead of magnesium chloride for producing light-burned magnesia building materials, which is characterized in that the moderator comprises the following raw materials by weight: 10kg ferrous sulfate, 0.1kg triethanolamine, 27kg magnesium sulfate, 8kg magnesium silicate, 6kg sodium silicate, 2kg aluminium dihydrogen phosphate, 15kg amorphous silicon dioxide, 6kg ammonium sulfate, 4kg bentonite, 7kg starch phosphate, 1kg potassium aluminum sulfate, 0.05kg titanate-NDZ-201 and 260kg water. The invention is a novel moderator instead of the magnesium chloride which is used in the production of the light-burned magnesia building materials and has good stability for a six-month storage without any change and wide use range, and is characterized in being burn-free, non-autoclave and no combustion with good wear resistance, high hardness, large compressive strength, convenient processing, fast curing, easy nailing, easy sawing, bright surface and good formability, and can be used in the construction industry for producing fireproofing boards, fire doors, partition boards, corrugated tiles, ventilation pipelines and, etc.
