Beacon signaling in a wireless system

InactiveUS6985498B2Improve and optimize system performanceImprove throughputPower managementFrequency diversityEngineeringData transmission
A few high power tones used for synchronization and / or other purposes are transmitted in a FDM system during a period of time, e.g., a symbol transmission time period. During normal data transmission symbol periods signals are transmitted using at least 10 tones, e.g., per symbol time. Less than 5 high power signals are transmitted in a symbol time with at least 80% the maximum total transmitter power transmitted being allocated to the high power signals where the maximum total transmitter power is determined from a period of time which may includes one or more data and / or high power tone transmission periods. When the high power tones are transmitted at most 20% of transmitter power is available for transmitting other tones with the power normally being distributed among multiple tones. Normally some tones which would be transmitted in a symbol time go unused during transmission of the high power signals.

An information processing apparatus communicates with a separate passive device, to receive specific information from the separate device. The information processing apparatus includes an antenna, a transmitter and a receiver both coupled to the antenna, and a control unit for controlling the transmitter. The control unit causes the transmitter to transmit a signal at a low transmission power and waits for reception by the receiver of a response signal from the separate device. When the specific information is detected in the response signal, the control unit causes the transmitter to transmit a signal at a high transmission power by raising the transmission power of the transmitter, to thereby enable information to be read from or written to the separate device.

Preventing unintended communication among power line communication devices associated with different premises power distribution lines of an electric power distribution system

An electric power line communication system operates with an electric power distribution system to provide through premises power distribution lines highly reliable communication links among power line communication devices electrically coupled or located in proximity to the premises power distribution lines. Each power line communication device associated with a set of premises power distribution lines has an identification address. A master code identifies the power line communication devices as members of a system domain of power line communication devices associated with the set of premises power distribution lines. Association of the master code with the identification addresses renders the member power line communication devices capable of operation without unintended communication with power line communication devices associated with a separate, different set of premises power distribution lines.

Adaptive signal processing method in a MIMO-system

The invention relates to a signal processing method which optimizes the bit error rate under pragmatic conditions. The signalling method is optimally matched to the radio channel, variable with time, in rapid sequence by means of linear operations. Uplink and downlink transmission sides are determined by an excess of antennae on the downlink transmission side. The estimations of the channel matrix in the one transmission direction, necessary for the matching of the transmitter, can, in the absence of common-channel distortions with the condition of channel reciprocity, be directly obtained from the estimations for the other transmission direction. By a suitable linear combination of the transmission signals and, optionally, also the received signals, an error-free bi-directional transmission of data streams can be achieved in Rayleigh and Rice channels with significantly lower transmission powers than in purely receiver-side linear signal processing.

Method for allocating transmit power in a wireless communication system

Disclosed is a method of setting reverse link traffic and pilot transmit powers in a wireless communications system based on traffic channel activity in order to lower average total transmit power on the reverse link and optimize reverse link capacity. As traffic channel activity decreases, the traffic transmit power relative to the pilot transmit power, i.e., traffic-to-pilot ratio (TPR), should increase. Increasing TPR will produce lower pilot transmit powers and higher traffic transmit powers. Although higher traffic transmit powers are undesirable, the effect on average total transmit power is lessen because the traffic channel is not active all the time. By contrast, the pilot channel is always active and, thus, it is desirable to sacrifice some performance of channel estimation in order to lower average total transmit power.
