Systems and methods for distributing GPS clock to communications devices

ActiveUS20090231191A1Good quality VoIP serviceFew dropped frameTime-division multiplexData switching by path configurationNetwork serviceUser equipment
A method for synchronizing network elements to a global clock derived from the GPS clock acquired by a plurality of base stations. The global clock is distributed to controllers of various networks, and from there to network access devices. The network access devices further distribute the global clock to various wire-line and local wireless networks and from there, to the users served by these networks. The user equipment is enabled with a simple clock discipliner that adjusts the local clock to the global clock, resulting in a reliable synchronization across the converged communication networks.

Liquid infusion apparatus

Liquid infusion apparatus includes non-magnetic materials in a pumping structure and ultrasonic drive motor therefor, and in a controller that supplies drive signals to the motor to facilitate convenient operation in intense magnetic fields without distorting the magnetic fields and without radiating objectionable radio-frequency interference. A non-MRI-compatible liquid infusion apparatus is temporarily replaced with MRI-compatible, non-magnetic liquid infusion apparatus without disconnecting a patient from an installed intravenous infusion set to continue infusing liquid within the MRI environment. The pumping apparatus operates on a segment of a liquid conduit that is mounted in tension between a linear peristaltic pump and platen, with associated safety interlocks to assure proper operation of infusing liquid into a patient compatibly with conditions in an MRI environment. Drive circuitry generates low-harmonic signals for operating the ultrasonic motor at variable speeds to compensate for flow rate discontinuities through the peristaltic pumping cycles.

Adaptive control for transition between multiple modulation modes in a switching power converter

In a switching power converter, PWM mode and PFM mode are separated into two independent control sections with the control voltage range in each control section determined independently. Each of the PWM and PFM modulation modes cannot operate continuously beyond its boundaries, thereby forming a control gap between the two control sections within which no continuous operation is allowed. In order to supply a load condition within the control gap, the power supply operates at the two boundaries of the control gap. Transition between PWM and PFM modes occurs fast, with low output voltage ripple. No limitation needs to be imposed on the control voltage range in each of the PWM and PFM control sections, because the control parameters in the PWM and PFM control sections need not be matched to one another, due to separation of the PWM and PFM modes by the control gap.

Method of handing off a packet switched to a circuit switched call

By obtaining the address of a circuit switching controller in the a network with which a mobile station is registered, a packet call controller instructs the circuit switching controller to send notification of when a handoff request is received for a mobile station by the circuit switching controller. The handoff request is for transferring a packet switched call to the circuit switching controller as a circuit switched call. The notification request includes an identifier, which the circuit switching controller uses in notifying the packet call controller of the handoff request. In response to the notification, the packet call controller re-establishes call control and bearer paths between the call endpoints.

Method and apparatus for extending a mobile unit data path between access points

Fast transitions between access points (APs) in a wireless network may be accomplished when a mobile unit (MU) moves between the APs, by causing a first tunnel to be established between the APs, and causing a second tunnel to be established between the new AP and the MU. A data path having established security and quality of service parameters between the MU and the old AP may be extended through the tunnels, so that communication with the MU is not disrupted while transitioning between APs. Transition processing thus may be decoupled from movement of the MU, so that the MU may continue to receive access to data over the data path. Optionally, once the data path has been so extended, the MU and new AP may engage in authentication and other messaging to formally affect a handover of the data path to the new AP. The APs and MU may be configured to communicate according to the 802.11 protocol.

Method for texturizing virtual three-dimensional objects

The invention relates to a method for texturizing virtual three-dimensional objects, particularly virtual three-dimensional building objects and city models with a photographic image (1) of a real object, particularly of a picture of a façade. The method is characterized by the following steps: Projecting the photographic image (1) onto a virtual surface (2) of the virtual three-dimensional object to produce a raw texture; localizing a raw texture element (3) in the raw texture by using a classification method; computer-compatible description of the localized raw texture element by a formal feature set for the raw texture element, particularly a feature vector; comparing the formal feature set of the raw texture element with each feature set of predefined library elements (4), and determining degrees of similarity between the raw texture element and each library element; replacing the localized raw texture element with at least one library element when a predefined degree of similarity is present, and reshaping the raw texture into a generalized texture (5) of the virtual object by replacing all raw texture elements with library elements.

Audio spectral noise reduction method and apparatus

A method of reducing noise in an audio signal, comprising the steps of: using a furrow filter to select spectral components that are narrow in frequency but relatively broad in time; using a bar filter to select spectral components that are broad in frequency but relatively narrow in time; analyzing the relative energy distribution between the output of the furrow and bar filters to determine the optimal proportion of spectral components for the output signal; and reconstructing the audio signal to generate the output signal. A second pair of time-frequency filters may be used to further improve intelligibility of the output signal. The temporal relationship between the furrow filter output and the bar filter output may be monitored so that the fricative components are allowed primarily at boundaries between intervals with no voiced signal present and intervals with voice components. A noise reduction system for an audio signal.

Method and apparatus for time-of-day synchronization between network nodes

A node with local GPS time in an ad-hoc wireless network synchronizes with the network time immediately and slowly pulls the network time to GPS time. However, network nodes may immediately transition to the common GPS time after an island or group head node determines that the transition in network time does not disturb the communication links.

Synchronizing Uplink and Downlink Transmissions in a Wireless Device

Synchronizing uplink and downlink transmissions by a wireless user equipment (UE) device. A connection with a network may be established via a wireless link with a cell. The UE may operate in an active state during first periods of time in which uplink or downlink communications may be performed between the UE and the network. The UE may operate in a reduced-power state during second periods of time in which uplink and downlink communications are not performed. The first periods of time may alternate with the second periods of time in a repeating manner. Uplink data generated by the UE may be buffered during second periods of time and transmitted during first periods of time. Buffering uplink data in this manner may prevent the UE from immediately transitioning from the reduced-power state to the active state to transmit uplink data, which may conserve battery of the UE.

Engine with gaseous and/or liquid fuel injector

In one example, a system for a vehicle travelling on a surface is described. The system includes an engine with a cylinder. The cylinder includes a fuel injector that is supplied with gaseous fuel and liquid fuel by a fuel delivery system. The fuel injector is mounted in the vehicle such that the fuel injector inlet faces at least partially toward the road surface. The orientation of the fuel injector enables a quick transition from liquid fuel to gaseous fuel because the gaseous fuel can rise to the injectors and be preferentially injected. Further, various approaches are described from transitioning operation between gaseous and liquid fuel injection.

Hardware Automatic Performance State Transitions in System on Processor Sleep and Wake Events

ActiveUS20110252251A1More performance controlEfficient power conservationEnergy efficient ICTVolume/mass flow measurementSleep statePower Management Unit
In an embodiment, a power management unit (PMU) may automatically transition (in hardware) the performance states of one or more performance domains in a system. The target performance states to which the performance domains are to transition may be programmable in the PMU by software, and software may signal the PMU that a processor in the system is to enter the sleep state. The PMU may control the transition of the performance domains to the target performance states, and may cause the processor to enter the sleep state. In an embodiment, the PMU may be programmable with a second set of target performance states to which the performance domains are to transition when the processor exits the sleep state. The PMU may control the transition of the performance domains to the second targeted performance states and cause the processor to exit the sleep state.
