Use of signaling for auto-configuration of modulators and repeaters

The present invention provides methods and apparatuses for configuring a modulator in a digital broadcast system using service information that is also broadcast to wireless terminals. In an embodiment of the invention, the service information is provided by a generator that encapsulates the service information in a transport stream that is received by a cell transmitter. The service information is parsed by each cell transmitter to determine the current modulator parameters. If at least one of the modulation parameters has changed, the associated modulator is reconfigured with the updated modulation parameters. The invention also provides methods and apparatuses for supporting repeaters in the digital broadcast system in order to provide supplementary RF coverage in associated cells. A repeater may retransmit a received radio signal at the same frequency or at a different frequency.

Aerodynamically shaped static pressure sensing probe

A static pressure sensing probe has an aerodynamically shaped cross section, and extends laterally from an aircraft surface sufficiently so that an outer end of the probe is a short distance outside the boundary layer on the aircraft surface on which the probe is mounted. The probe has surface corrugations or ridges along the probe, and the ridges include an upstream ridge adjacent the leading edge, and a downstream ridge spaced rearwardly from the upstream ridge. The ridges cause pressure disturbances along the probe surfaces. Static pressure sensing ports are positioned on the surfaces of the probe relative to the ridges in regions of pressure disturbances caused by the ridges. The probes can be mounted on opposite sides of the aircraft and pneumatically or electrically connected to average the pressures from selected sets of ports.

Self Charging Ion Sensing Coil

A self charging ion current sensing circuit is provided. The self charging ion current sensing circuit is coupled to spark generation circuitry, and utilizes the spark plug electrodes as the ion current sensing electrodes. The self charging is achieved by utilizing the spark current during an ignition event to charge an ion bias capacitor. After the ignition event, the charge voltage build up on the ion bias capacitor is used to provide an ion current across the spark plug gap. The ion current is passed through an offset stage that translates the ion current sense voltage to a voltage that can be buffered and amplified from a single power source available in automotive and vehicular applications. The output of the circuit provides tri-state information, including spark current, null current, and linear representation of ion sense current.
