Method and apparatus to correct distortion of document copies

Pages of books are copied without distortion due to curvature of the page near the book binding or the distortion in a copied page is corrected using the spacing of equidistant bars on tape strips applied to the top and bottom edges of a page before copying. The tape is preferably transparent and rather narrow and easily attached to a page to be copied. The first step in the distortion correction procedure is to locate the bars at the top and bottom of the page. The distortion of the spacing between the imaged bars is computed based on the known distance between the equidistant bars. The computed distortion of the spacing is then input to a distortion correction algorithm. The output of the distortion correction algorithm generates a corrected image. This image may also optionally delete the bars so that they are not printed in the copy. The corrected image is then copied.

Wire-feeding device for a wire-processing machine

A wire feeding device for very fine wire includes a straightening unit, a transporting unit, a wire buffer, and a wire guide arranged on a table on which a swivel unit with a wire drive is also arranged. The swivel unit serves wire-processing stations of a wire-processing machine. A supply of very fine wire is held in a drum and passes through the straightening unit which straightens the wire, bends and kinks being thereby removed. The transporting unit pulls the wire out of the drum and through the straightening unit and feeds the wire buffer. The wire buffer has a measuring device for monitoring a hanging wire loop. Depending on the requirement for wire in the wire-processing machine, the content of the buffer can decrease and the wire apex of the loop then moves upwards. The movement of the wire apex is detected by the measuring device and controlled with a control device via the transporting unit.

Device for broadband reception by autotransposition and application to the detection and characterization of radioelectric emissions

A device is provided for use of an antennal base formed of two antennas which pick up the emissions present and produce two radioelectric signals S1 and S2. These two signals are used to produce at least one intermediate-frequency signal Fl by demodulation of one of the two signals by the other (autotransposition). The demodulation is carried out by firstly transposing one of the signals, S1 for example, around a given frequency F1, the signal S2 being preserved around its initial central frequency F0. Thus, whatever the central frequency F0 of the emission picked up by the antennas, the demodulation produces a signal of central frequency F1, thereafter demodulated into a given intermediate frequency Fl by a local oscillator of constant frequency F2=F1+Fl. The device is applied to the production of a device for detecting emissions and for characterizing the emissions picked up.

Motor-vehicle braking system having a vacuum-operated assistance device

A vehicle braking system includes an assistance device having a vacuum pump driven by an engine for communicating vacuum to a chamber of the assistance device. A control valve is interposed along a fluid line between the pump and the chamber. The control valve is in its first operative condition, where the inlet side of the vacuum pump communicates with the chamber, when pressure within the chamber is above a predetermined value; and is in its second operative condition, where the inlet side of the vacuum pump communicates with the atmosphere, when pressure within the chamber is below a predetermined value. In this second condition the pump intakes air from and feeds air into the atmosphere, thereby reducing the energy consumption by the engine required for driving the pump during stages where, within the chamber, there is a vacuum sufficient for the regular operation of the braking system.
