Processes for geometric isomerization of halogenated olefins

Disclosed are processes for the conversion of isomerizable halogenated C2-C6 olefins from one geometric form to a more preferred geometric form. Preferred process aspects involve converting C2-C6 olefin in a cis-form to a trans-form under conditions effective to convert at least about 50 percent, and even more preferably at least about 70 percent, of the cis-form compound to the trans-form compound. In preferred embodiments the C2-C6 olefin comprises tetrafluoropropene, with cis-1,3,3,3 tetrafluoropropene (cis-HFO-1234ze) being converted, preferably at high conversion rates and high selectivity, to trans-1,3,3,3 tetrafluoropropene (trans-HFO-1234ze). In preferred embodiments the conditions effective to achieve the desired high levels of conversion and selectivity include exposing the feed to a metal based catalyst selected from the group consisting of halogentated metal oxides, Lewis acid metal halides, zero-valent metals, and combinations of these, preferably under reaction conditions, including reaction temperature and residence time, effective to convert at least about 5% of the cis-form of the compound to other compounds and to further achieve a selectivity to the trans-form of the compound of at least about 70%.

This invention describes methods of compacting and densifying high purity silicon powder to defined geometric forms and shapes. High purity silicon powder is first mixed with binder from a select group of binders and pressed into desired shapes in a mechanical equipment. The binder is removed either in a separate step or combined with a subsequent sintering operation. The binders and process conditions are chosen to make negligible change to the purity of the silicon in the end product. When high purity silicon powder is utilized in the process, the end use for the densified silicon compacts is primarily as feedstock for silicon-based photovoltaic manufacturing industries.

A symbology system uses programmable software in a computerized system interacting with the altitude, attitude, air speed, and other flight indicators of an aircraft to create symbology in the pilot's display seen in the field of view of the pilot. The symbology represents a virtual geometric solid form, such as a vertical cylinder, always appearing perpendicular to the horizon and moving across the terrain with the aircraft in the center of the form. The pilot sees a front portion of a virtual series of horizontal circles or other shapes, spaced by a programmable distance, symbolizing the geometric solid form appearing to surround the aircraft. The geometric form references the world as-ground for use in recognizing the attitude of the aircraft-as-figure. On landing, the form appears to stop at the ground and the aircraft appears to descend within it. A virtual bank indicator line changes orientation to the geometric solid corresponding to the attitude change of the aircraft relative to the horizon.

Design method of surgical scan templates and improved treatment planning

In implant dentistry, scan templates, also known as scan appliances or radiographic guides, are fabricated according to patients' anatomy, and later on transferred into surgical guides through CT scan, image segmentation, surface reconstruction, CAD modification, and manufacturing. This approach may be also applied to other kinds of surgery. The final manufactured surgical guides can hardly match the actual geometry of the initial scan templates, thus cannot fit well into patients' mouths, which can pose serious risks for surgery.This invention introduces calibration features to design and make a scan template, and accordingly the workflow to perform treatment planning with the template. Calibration features are geometric form features or their patterns. Iterations are utilized to make sure the reconstructed model of a scan template can replicate or match with the calibration features. After treatment planning, calibration features are removed from the model (an optional step), and a surgical guide is designed and fabricated. This invention also includes some special calibration feature designs. The treatment planning workflow is greatly improved with calibration features introduced.
