At least two registration marks are formed for each of the reproduction colors cyan, magenta, yellow, and black. Each of the marks for each color is formed at a different position in the main scanning direction. Each position of the marks is detected, and the deviation is obtained for each color from the detection result. Using the obtained deviations, a correction approximation function is formulated that is used for determining writing positions for pixels of an image. In accordance with the correction approximation function, an image writing position at which an image forming unit starts writing is corrected, so that color deviations caused from various factors can be prevented.

In a position deviation detecting method for an image forming device, first and second patterns formed in different colors on image supporting mediums are transferred to an intermediate transfer medium in an overlapping manner, the first patterns formed in a color with high sensor sensitivity and the second patterns formed in a color with low sensor sensitivity. The first and second patterns on the transfer medium are read using a light-receiving unit of a pattern detection sensor. An amount of position deviation in a main scanning direction between two of a plurality of colors is detected. The first patterns are set in a fixed position in the main scanning direction and the second patterns are shifted. Output values of the light-receiving unit are measured from the first and second patterns, and the amount of position deviation in the main scanning direction is computed based the measured output values.

Print head pulsing techniques for multicolor printers

In one aspect of the invention there is disclosed a multicolor thermal imaging system wherein different heating elements on a thermal print head can print on different color-forming layers of a multicolor thermal imaging member in a single pass. The line-printing time is divided into segments, each of which is divided into a plurality of subintervals. All of the pulses within the segments have the same energy. In one embodiment, every pulse has the same amplitude and duration. Different colors are selected for printing during the different segments by varying the fraction of subintervals that contain pulses. This technique allows multiple colors to be printed using a thermal print head with a single strobe signal line. Pulsing patterns may be chosen to reduce the coincidence of pulses provided to multiple print head elements, thereby reducing the peak power requirements of the print head.

Color filter array with neutral elements and color image formation

The invention is directed to a method and a device for providing higher performance imaging capture using a novel pattern of a color filter array that enables one to achieve higher sampling rate for luminance than for chrominance. A majority of the elements in the CFA are neutral elements. Gray scale images with high spatial resolution and high light sensitivity can be acquired from image samplings at these neutral elements. The remaining elements of the CFA are color filtered ones. Color elements cluster to form a repeating block pattern. Color images with low spatial resolution but low color artifacts can be acquired from image samplings at these color filter elements. The color images are transformed into a luminance-chrominance color space, and the luminance components are replaced with the gray scale images to regain high spatial resolution.

An improved display of a color image is achieved by an optimum placement of color dots using an efficient stochastic screening process in which display elements are formed according to a priority ranking of color and according to a spatial-priority matrix. Various combinations of basic colors are ranked in priority according to visibility such that elements in a stochastic screen are first formed for the most visible colors. The number of elements in the screen that are used to represent more than one basic color is minimized. The running surface of the tire tread is configured with a combination of micro-protrusions of corncob granules from said corncob granule internal dispersion and micro-cavities therein created by a release of a portion of the protruded corncob granules during the abrading, or wearing, of the tire tread running surface as the tire is being run. At least a portion of said corncob granular micro-protrusions may be covered by a relatively thin membrane of tread rubber. The corncob granules may be colored with a suitable colorant of a non-black color to contrast with the tire tread color to better visualize their presence on the tread running surface. The tire tread rubber composition may optionally also contain a starch / plasticizer composite, sorbitan ester, methylene donor compound, methylene acceptor compound or combination of methylene donor and acceptor compounds, and may be reinforced with carbon black, synthetic amorphous silica aggregates or their combination.

Compositions and methods for production of color images using leuco dye-containing color forming compositions are described. The color forming composition can include a color forming leuco dye, a metal salt activator, a suppression agent configured for inhibiting the activity of the metal salt activator until application of energy in the form of heat or light, and an initiator precursor. The initiator precursor is capable of liberating scavenger species which reduce the inhibiting action of the suppression agent. The color forming compositions can be a single phase mixture of a leuco dye, metal salt activator, suppression agent, and initiator precursor which are stable under ambient conditions and form a colored composition upon application of energy.
