The apparatus includes a plurality of microcode controlled state machines, wherein at least one microcode state machine processes at least one input data field using a hash function to generate a hash identifier. This embodiment further includes a distribution circuit that routes input data to the plurality of microcode controlled state machines, such that at least one individual microcode controlled state machine applies a rule to the input data to produce the at least one input data field, and to produce modification instructions based on the hash identifier. This embodiment further includes a first circuit that appends the hash identifier to the input data to produce modified input data based on the modification instructions, and that routes the modified input data in accordance with an output routing strategy. Advantageously, the apparatus provides an architectural framework well suited to a low cost, high speed, robust implementation of flexible, advanced network security and monitoring features and network traffic analysis.

A monitoring function-equipped dispensing system and a method of monitoring the dispensing system wherein conditions in a pipeline can be identified accurately and precisely by not only optically measuring conditions in the pipeline, but performing other measurements reinforcing the former. A method and system for interconnecting peripherals, processor nodes, and hardware devices to a data network to produce a network bus providing OS functionality for managing hardware devices connected to the network bus involves defining a network bus driver at each of the processor nodes that couples hardware device drivers to a network hardware abstraction layer of the processor node. The network bus can be constructed to account for the hot-swappable nature of the hardware devices using a device monitoring function, and plug and play functionality for adding and, removing device driver instances. Methods, apparatus and systems for memory access obscuration are provided. A first embodiment provides memory access obscuration in conjunction with deadlock avoidance. Such embodiment utilizes processor features including an instruction to enable monitoring of specified cache lines and an instruction that sets a status bit responsive to any foreign access (e.g., write or eviction due to a read) to the specified lines. A second embodiment provides memory access obscuration in conjunction with deadlock detection. Such embodiment utilizes the monitoring feature, as well as handler registration. A user-level handler may be asynchronously invoked responsive to a foreign write to any of the specified lines. Invocation of the handler more frequently than expected indicates that a deadlock may have been encountered. In such case, a deadlock policy may be enforced. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

A method for performing a monitoring function for an application that passes messages between two or more endpoints, comprising: receiving a message including transaction data, the transaction data including data relating to transport of the transaction data; storing the message and transaction data in respective message data and transaction data buffers in a data store; storing status and semantic information associated with the message in the data store; receiving a signal selecting one or more module instances to define the monitoring function, each module instance for independently performing a respective aspect of the monitoring function, each module instance having related module instance data stored in a respective module instance data buffer in the data store, each module instance having a respective service access point for accessing the data store, each service access point having related service access point data stored in a respective service access point data buffer in the data store, each module instance independently accessing one or more of the message, transaction, module instance, and service access point data buffers to process data contained therein to perform its aspect of the monitoring function; and, initiating operation of the one or more module instances in accordance with a schedule defined by one or more routing rules, the one or more routing rules for routing a pointer to the message, as stored in the message data buffer, between the one or more module instances to thereby perform the monitoring function.

An apparatus is described that facilitates network security and network traffic monitoring through processing of network traffic in accordance with provisioned rules and policies. The apparatus includes a set of microcode controlled state machines, each of which includes a computation kernel operating in accordance with microcode stored in a control store. A distribution circuit routes individual network traffic segments derived from input network traffic to the set of microcode controlled state machines, so that at least one of the microcode controlled state machines applies a rule encoded in the microcode to the individual network traffic segments to produce modification instructions. A purposed-device management platform monitors a network of mobile devices dedicated to a single purpose. The single purpose may be to function as a point-of-sale terminal at a retail shop or a plurality of retail shops. Each device is monitored by the management platform, which may include a variety of functions and applications to accomplish the goals of the single purpose. Monitoring functions may include device and application performance statistics and may alert the platform or the local user when a malfunction occurs. Geolocation monitoring may determine whether the device has been moved in an unauthorized manner. The platform may cause the device to cease functioning, lock up, or revert to factory/default settings when the device is moved or when another restriction is violated.
