1488 results about "Operating temperature range" patented technology

The ideal operating temperature of a computer's environment ranges from 50 degrees F to 82 degrees, though it should be as close as possible to room temperature, 72 degrees. Laptops should operate between 50 and 95 degrees. If the room is too hot, cool air cannot enter the computer and keep temperatures from rising too high.

Thermal enhancement approach using solder compositions in the liquid state

Solder compositions are introduced to interface between an IC chip and its associated heat exchanger cover. The solder compositions have a solidus-liquidus temperature range that encompasses the IC chip operational temperature range. The solder composition has the desired property of absorbing and rejecting heat energy by changing state or phase with each temperature rise and decline that result from temperature fluctuations associated with the thermal cycles of the integrated circuit chips. A path for high thermal conduction (low thermal resistance) from the IC chip to the heat exchanger to the ambient air is provided by an electronic module cover, configured as a cap with a heat exchanger formed or attached as a single construction, and made of the same material as the substrate, or made with materials of compatible thermal coefficients of expansion to mitigate the effects of vertical displacement during thermal cycling. The cap-heat exchanger cover is constructed to be compliant, and to contact both the IC chip and substrate.

Load carrying structure having variable flexibility

A load carrying structure having a selectively rigid or flexible characteristic includes a thermoplastic material (7) having a softening temperature above the operating temperature range of the load carrying structure, and a heating arrangement (8) provided to selectively heat the thermoplastic material to above its softening temperature. During normal operation, the thermoplastic material is in a rigid state and the overall load carrying structure is rigid to the prevailing loads. By activating the heating arrangement to heat the thermoplastic material to at least its softening temperature, the thermoplastic material and therewith the load carrying structure becomes flexible so that it may be deformed to a different configuration by applying a deforming load. Once the desired deformed configuration is achieved, the heating arrangement is deactivated, and the thermoplastic material is allowed to cool below its softening temperature so that it once again becomes rigid and rigidly fixes the new deformed configuration. The deforming force may be applied by any actuating mechanism, or for example by arranging shape memory alloys in connection with the thermoplastic material.

Diesel engine system comprising a soot filter and low temperature NOx trap

The invention provides low temperature NO2 trap compositions useful for adsorbing NO2 from a gas stream at lower temperatures, and releasing the NO2 at higher temperatures. The low temperature trap compositions are useful for incorporation into a diesel exhaust system equipped with a soot filter. The NO2 from the diesel exhaust can be stored when the exhaust temperature is cool, e.g., during startup and at times of low load, and released when the exhaust is at higher temperatures. The released NO2 serves as an effective oxidant for the combustion of soot deposited on the soot filter. These temperatures are significantly lower than those required for the combustion of soot using O2 as an oxidant. The methods of the invention thereby provide a method for regenerating the soot filter within operating temperature ranges typical of diesel engine exhaust systems.
