A method for dispersing sepiolite-type clay particles in a polyester matrix by melt-compounding a mixture of: sepiolite-type clay, at least one linear polyester oligomer, and at least one polyester polymer to produce a nanocomposite composition; and, optionally, subjecting said nanocomposite composition to solid state polymerization to increase polyester molecular weight. Further described is a method for preparing a polyester nanocomposite composition from a masterbatch, comprising melt-compounding a mixture of: sepiolite-type clay, at least one polyester oligomer, and at least one polyester polymer to produce a nanocomposite composition containing a greater concentration of sepiolite-type clay than is desired in the final resin composition; optionally, subjecting said nanocomposite composition to solid state polymerization to increase the polyester molecular weight; and further melt compounding said nanocomposite composition with polyester polymer and, optionally, additional ingredients.

A static mixer comprising a mixer body with a first and a second array of intermeshed and interconnecting passageways formed therein that connect, and provide a convoluted flow path between, flow faces at ends of the mixer body. The first and second arrays of passageways preferably interconnect such that the boundaries of adjacent intermeshed passageways overlap to form mixing portals. When used in an injection molding system, a singular melt flow is initially divided at the first flow face of the static mixer, wherein the melt flow divides into the intermeshing passageways and further divides and re-combines at the locations of mixing portals before exiting the static mixer at the second flow face as homogenized melt.

An object of the invention is to provide an injection molding process for preparing thermoplastic resin molded articles and an injection molding apparatus for use in practicing this process, the process and the apparatus being adapted to supply a blowing agent, especially a nonreactive gas such as carbon dioxide or nitrogen gas, to a thermoplastic resin continuously at a relatively low pressure with good stability to incorporate the agent or gas into the resin. As shown in FIG. 3, a resin in a cylinder (2) of an injection molding machine (1) as melted by rotating a screw (3) is mixed and dissolves carbon dioxide which is supplied to the molten resin from a gas supply opening (5) formed in the screw (3). An amount of the gas-incorporating molten resin is measured out and injected into a mold cavity to obtain an expansion-molded article. To incorporate carbon dioxide into the molten resin, the gas is supplied from a gas inlet (11) formed in a rear end portion of the screw to a portion (4a) not fed with the resin and positioned between front and rear screw flights and closer to the front flight, through a gas supply channel 6 extending through the screw and via the supply opening (5).

A system and method for mixing and forming gum structures is provided. The system may include combinations of continuous and batch mixers arranged generally in parallel and/or series for mixing gum base ingredients with subsequent gum ingredients. In one embodiment, the system and method first forms a gum structure that is not a gum base and then adds a subsequent gum ingredient such that the gum structure is less than a gum base in combination with a subsequent gum ingredient. In other embodiments, the system and method includes forming a gum base in addition to some subsequent gum ingredients that are not quite finished gum. Further, in other embodiments, the system and method may perform some of the mixing of the ingredients at a first location while mixing of further ingredients is performed at a remote location.

Provided is an in-situ precleaning method for use in conjunction with epitaxial processes that utilizes temperatures at or below those typically utilized during the subsequent epitaxial deposition under pressure and ambient conditions suitable for inducing decomposition of semiconductor oxides, such as native oxides, from exposed semiconductor surfaces. The reduced temperature and the resulting quality of the cleaned semiconductor surfaces will tend to reduce the likelihood of temperature related issues such as unwanted diffusion, autodoping, slip, and other crystalline stress problems while simultaneously reducing the overall process time. A screw-type extruding machine comprises at least two casing bores with screw shafts disposed therein, on which several successive mixing and kneading disks are mounted, interengaging in pairs. An apparatus and method for melting polymer is provided. In at least one embodiment, the apparatus includes a housing, two or more rotatable members at least partially contained within the housing, where each rotatable member having a shaft coupled thereto. The invention provides an automated method and apparatus for pizza production which is initiated by individual order placement and uses only fresh ingredients (no ingredients are frozen, pre-prepared or pre-cooked). Each dough portion is individually and mechanically prepared from flour and other fresh, pre-proportioned ingredients. The dough portion passes through a series of shaping and pre-heating processing stations to prepare a flattened and partially baked pizza base. Using a preheated or continuously heated conveying tray, the pizza base passes under a number of metering and distribution devices for selected application of tomato sauce and/or various other toppings according to the order. Baking occurs in one of multiple ovens to complete pizza preparation. Multiple ovens are provided to facilitate the automated preparation of multiple pizzas at any given time. A tray conveying system transports one or more trays through the various processing stations to accommodate multiple orders at the same time.

A kneading disk has a plurality of disk elements having flight tips arranged at a helix angle E in a direction supporting main streams of a resin. A kneading segment includes plural wing portions integrally formed along an axis such that angles, around the axis, of the plural wing portions are shifted. At a part of a leading end of each wing portion where a wing leading end surface and a wing surface connect with each other, a first flow surface facilitates flow of material between the wing leading end surface and the wing surface. At a part of a base end of each wing portion where a wing surface and a wing side surface of another wing portion adjacent to each wing portion connect with each other, a second flow surface facilitates flow of material between the wing surface and the wing side surface. An apparatus for wet granulating a powder material comprises:—a barrel having a granulation chamber and being provided with a first inlet (1) for receiving said powder material and for supplying it to said granulation chamber and with a second inlet (2) for receiving a granulating liquid and for supplying it to said granulation chamber, said granulation having an aperture (9) for discharge of granules from said barrel, and—a transporting means (S) for advancing said powder material toward the end of said granulation chamber while granulating it with the aid of said granulating liquid, said transporting means (S) comprising a first transport zone (4) at its rear end, an agglomeration zone (5) downstream from the first transport zone (4) and a second transport zone (8) at its front end, said first inlet (1) and said second inlet (2) being positioned above the first transport zone (4), wherein said aperture (9) has a shape tightly fitting the terminal portion of the transporting means (S) for directly discharging said granules from the granulation chamber. The apparatus is useful for continuously wet granulating biologically-active ingredient formulations, chemicals, detergents and foodstuffs.

In a conical twin-screw extruder in which two rotor shafts having flights on the outer peripheral surfaces thereof and being adjacent to each other in the lateral direction are accommodated in a barrel having a raw material supply port on one side and a raw material discharge port on the other side, and the distance between the rotor shafts and the outside diameters of the flights thereof are gradually reduced from the supply port side to the discharge port side, characteristically, the barrel is provided with a water-removing port for removing water contained in a raw material supplied through the raw material supply port, out of the barrel. The invention relates to a multi-shaft extruder for the continuous treatment and/or processing of bulk material, especially a powdery, granular or flocculent product, comprising a plurality of shafts (3) which are arranged in a crown-like manner in a cavity (1) of an extruder housing (2), said shafts extending parallel to the axial direction (A) of the extruder and forming an inner processing chamber (1a) inside the crown, and an outer processing chamber (1b) outside the crown. Each shaft carries a number of axially successive processing elements (4), at least part of the same being elements (4a; 4c; 4e) having a transporting effect, and with which adjacent shafts engage in a sealed manner at least in partial regions. At least one transporting endless screw element (4b; 4d; 4f) comprising at least one transporting screw thread (9, 10; 14, 15, 16; 19, 20) is placed in the region of the supply opening (21) in the extruder housing (2), and does not engage in a sealing manner in at least one partial region along the axial direction (A).
