Optical layer survivability and security system using optical label switching and high-speed optical header generation and detection

An optical signaling header technique applicable to optical networks wherein packet routing information is embedded in the same channel or wavelength as the data payload so that both the header and data payload propagate through network elements with the same path and the associated delays. The technique effects survivability and security of the optical networks by encompassing conventional electronic security with an optical security layer by generating replicated versions of the input data payload at the input node, and the transmission of each of the replicated versions over a corresponding one of the plurality of links. Moreover, each of the links is composed of multiple wavelengths to propagate optical signals or optical packets, and each of the replicated versions of the data payload may be propagated over a selected one of the wavelengths in each corresponding one of the plurality of links.

System and method of dynamic power management

In a communications system, such as a Power-Over-Ethernet system, where power supply equipment (PSE) supplies power to powered requiring devices (PRDs), a system and method of dynamic power management is implemented. The system and method monitors the power consumed at each port by the PRDs. Based on this monitoring, the PSE dynamically determines the minimum power which can be allocated to each PRD, and so dynamically maximizes the available reserve power. The PSE maintains a queue or queues wherein PRDs are listed in order of a power allocation priority. When additional power is available, the PSE preferentially allocates power to a PRD or PRDs which have higher priority. The system and method of the present invention minimizes the power allocated to each individual network device, as a result of which the total number of network devices that can be supported with the available power may be maximized.

Power generator module connectivity control

A remote resource can be configured to control connectivity of the power generator modules in a string. For example, a respective power generator module can include a current sense circuit that monitors for presence of communication signal. The power generator module can monitor for a presence of a remotely generated control signal over power line that is used by the respective power generator module to convey power to the external load. If the control signal is present on the power line, as generated by the remote resource, the control circuit in the respective power generator module activates the switch to an ON state such that respective activated power generator module is connected in series with the other activated power generator modules. If no keep-alive control signal is detected within a timeout period, the controller deactivates the respective power generator module.

Method and system for dynamically adjusting power consumption of an information handling system

A power consumption manager reduces inadvertent information handling system shutdowns by monitoring current discharge from a battery and commanding selected components of the information handling system to operate in a reduced power mode if current discharge exceeds a warning threshold. The power consumption manager recovers the selected components from the reduced power mode if the current discharge from the battery remains less than a recovery threshold. Monitoring of current discharge reduces inadvertent shutdowns from temporary surges in power demand from the battery and allows implementation of a reduced power configuration for the information handling system as total power discharge capacity of the battery drops with total charge available due to use of the battery over time.

System and Method for Information Handling System Operation With Different Types of Permanent Storage Devices

A storage controller, such as a RAID controller arbitrates storage tasks between a hard disk drive and a solid state drive based on predetermined factors, such as the type of information associated with a read or a write or the power available for running the storage devices. For example, a RAID controller on a portable information handling system performs writes and reads for sequential information with a hard disk drive. If power is limited, such as from a battery, the storage controller powers down the hard disk drive and performs storage tasks with the solid state drive with periodic power ups of the hard disk drive to mirror stored information.

Carrierless RFID system

The present invention is a method and an apparatus to use carrierless signals for energizing remote passive or active transponders (tags) and for communication link between a reader and the transponders. The reader's transceiver generates very short high power pulses to transmit them to the transponder which receives and stores the pulse energy in an energy store on the transponder. At the transponder the power pulse signal is compressed by a matched filter and rectified. Information to be transmitted from the reader to the transponder and from the transponder to the reader can be added to the data pulses by means of pulse position modulation, bi-phase modulation or other well-known wide-band modulation techniques. The communication is active as the transponder utilizes stored power for transmission and reception of signals while the transponder can be passive and is powered by the reader's signal energy.
