Methods of minimally invasive unicompartmental knee replacement

A method of minimally invasive unicompartmental knee replacement includes accessing a knee through a minimal incision, forming a planar surface along a tibial plateau of the knee, forming a planar posterior surface along a posterior aspect of the corresponding femoral condyle, resurfacing a distal aspect of the femoral condyle to form a resurfaced area having a curved portion, implanting a prosthetic tibial component on the planar surface along the tibial plateau and implanting a prosthetic femoral component on the prepared surface of the femoral condyle formed by the planar posterior surface and the resurfaced area. The curved portion of the resurfaced area has an anterior-posterior curvature corresponding to a fixation surface of the prosthetic femoral component. Prior to implantation, the femur and tibia are prepared to receive fixation structure of the femoral and tibial components.

Automatic optimization for virtual systems

Techniques are disclosed for controlling and managing virtual machines and other such virtual systems. VM execution approval is based on compliance with policies controlling various aspects of VM. The techniques can be employed to benefit all virtual environments, such as virtual machines, virtual appliances, and virtual applications. For ease of discussion herein, assume that a virtual machine (VM) represents each of these environments. In one particular embodiment, a systems management partition (SMP) is created inside the VM to provide a persistent and resilient storage for management information (e.g., logical and physical VM metadata). The SMP can also be used as a staging area for installing additional content or agentry on the VM when the VM is executed. Remote storage of management information can also be used. The VM management information can then be made available for pre-execution processing, including policy-based compliance testing.

Selective electroless-plated copper metallization

Structures and methods are provided which include a selective electroless copper metallization. The present invention includes a novel methodology for forming copper vias on a substrate, including depositing a thin film seed layer of Palladium (Pd) or Copper (Cu) on a substrate to a thickness of less than 15 nanometers (nm). A number of via holes is defined above the seed layer. A layer of copper is deposited over the seed layer using electroless plating to fill the via holes to a top surface of the patterned photoresist layer. The method can be repeated any number of times, forming second, third and fourth layers of copper. The photoresist layers along with the seed layers in other regions can then be removed, such as by oxygen plasma etching, such that a chemical mechanical planarization process is avoided.

Generation of a Frame Synchronized Clock for a Wireless Video Receiver

An apparatus for receiving essentially uncompressed HDTV video must generate an accurate pixel-rate clock to enable the reconstruction of a video frame. The clock pixel-rate generated must match a received video pixel-rate. In such system, signals for generation of horizontal and vertical synchronization are not transmitted over the wireless link to conserve the use of bandwidth. In the invention, a start of frame (SOF) indication is extracted by a symbol detection and synchronization (SDS) module and is used to generate the pixel-rate clock.

Christmas wreath

The present invention provides a Christmas wreath, which applies a non-circular metal wire to connect bells, wherein additional positioning members are added between the adjacent bell groups for separation. The non-circular inner hole of the positioning member can obtain a refrained position between the positioning member and metal wire, and prevent arbitrary rotation of the positioning member. The outer rim of the positioning member includes at least one included angle, and formed into an inclined guiding surface to coordinate with the end. This enables the positioning member end to insert into the bell ring concave to obtain a refrained position relation between the positioning member and bell, preventing the bell from arbitrarily rotating. The present invention can truly maintain the pattern of connected bells through the mechanism of the positioning member for the bell and metal wire.

Water saver adapter

When the toilet is flushed, the water fill valve is activated and water begins to flow through the intake valve seat into the tank and refill tube. The refill tube's flow is directed into the overflow / drain tube, which empties into the bowl. The water entering the tank is retained in the tank and begins to accumulate until a predetermined level is reached. When the predetermined level is attained, the water intake valve closes and all flow into both tank and refill tube stops, until the next flush cycle is invoked. The water saver adapter prevents excess water from entering the overflow / drain tube during the flush and refill cycle by diverting a significant volume of water back into the water tank.

Switch-based call processing with detection of voice path connection between multiple trunks in external network

ActiveUS7272391B2Conserving trunk usageIncrease call handling capacityMultiplex system selection arrangementsSpecial service for subscribersCommunications systemBase calling
A private branch exchange (PBX) or other communication system switch is configured to establish connections for at least first and second calls associated with an external endpoint, using respective first and second trunks. Upon detection of a voice path connection between the first and second calls in a network external to the switch, the switch conferences the first and second calls together within the switch and drops at least one of the trunk connections. The switch may detect the voice path connection using an active approach in which a designated signal is generated on one of the first and second trunks and a determination is made as to whether the designated signal is detected on the other trunk. As another example, the switch may detect the voice path connection using a passive approach which involves monitoring the first and second trunks to determine whether they are connected in the external network.

Roll-vortex plasma chemical vapor deposition system

A system comprises a processing chamber for maintaining a hydrogen plasma at low pressure. The processing chamber has a long, wide, thin geometry to favor deposition of thin-film silicon on sheet substrates over the chamber walls. The sheet substrates are moved through between ends. A pair of opposing radio frequency electrodes above and below the workpieces are electrically driven hard to generate a flat, pancaked plasma cloud in the middle spaces of the processing chamber. A collinear series of gas injector jets pointed slightly up on a silane-jet manifold introduce 100% silane gas at high velocity from the side in order to roll the plasma cloud in a coaxial vortex. A second such silane-jet manifold is placed on the opposite side and pointed slightly down to further help roll the plasma and maintain a narrow band of silane concentration. A silane-concentration monitor observes the relative amplitudes of the spectral signatures of the silane and the hydrogen constituents in the roll-vortex plasma and outputs a process control feedback signal that is used to keep the silane in hydrogen concentration at about 6-7%.
