Methods for forming through-wafer interconnects, intermediate structures so formed, and devices and systems having at least one solder dam structure

A method for forming through-wafer interconnects (TWI) in a substrate of a thickness in excess of that of a semiconductor die such as a semiconductor wafer. Blind holes are formed from the active surface, sidewalls thereof passivated and coated with a solder-wetting material. A vent hole is then formed from the opposite surface (e.g., wafer back side) to intersect the blind hole. The blind hole is solder filled, followed by back thinning of the vent hole portion of the wafer to a final substrate thickness to expose the solder and solder-wetting material at both the active surface and the thinned back side. A metal layer such as nickel, having a glass transition temperature greater than that of the solder, may be plated to form a dam structure covering one or both ends of the TWI including the solder and solder-wetting material to prevent leakage of molten solder from the TWI during high temperature excursions. Intermediate structures of semiconductor devices, semiconductor devices and systems are also disclosed.

Auxiliary power device for refrigerated trucks

An auxiliary power device for attachment to an existing refrigeration unit of a refrigerated trailer to serve as a power source to a truck cab, thereby allow operation of electrical devices in said cab without idling of the truck's engine. The auxiliary power device comprises a housing attached beneath the existing refrigeration unit, an electric generator enclosed within the housing, and a pulley assembly mounted in the housing and connected by drive shaft to the generator. The pulley assembly is connected via drive belt to the diesel motor in the existing refrigeration unit. When the generator is activated a first relay governs the speed of the diesel motor in the refrigeration unit, which turns the generator to generate power, and a second relay prevents drainage of the refrigeration unit battery. The power from the generator is routed through a breaker panel mounted in the cab of the truck for distributing and regulating power from the battery and / or generator into the truck cab. Thus, the driver can power electric devices in the cab from the auxiliary power generation device without idling the truck's main engine, thereby reducing fuel consumption, harmful emissions, and prolonging engine life.

The invention provides wound dressings comprising an absorbent (porous) hydrogel composition comprising a foam portion which comprises a flexible plasticised hydrophilic polymer matrix having an internal cellular structure, and a continuous portion which comprises a flexible plasticised hydrophilic polymer matrix having relatively continuous internal structure. The continuous portion of the hydrogel composition includes apertures providing fluid flow communication through the continuous portion between an external surface of the continuous portion and the foam portion whereby the foam portion can take up external water or other fluid into the cellular structure through the apertures of the continuous portion. The continuous portion of the hydrogel composition may be tacky to the skin, allowing its use as a bioadhesive.

Nozzle assembly with flow divider and ecology valve

A fuel system having an ecology valve controlling liquid flow through a retention passage when pressurized liquid is passed through the valve is presented. The retention passage winds between the valve outlet and a cavity such that no matter which way the valve is oriented gravity alone is unable to drain liquid from the cavity to the outlet. The ecology valve serves to suction fuel from fuel nozzle passages upon engine shutdown. Fuel is temporarily stored in the cavity and the retention passage. The ecology valve also provides a fuel splitting function for providing a port geometry determined split between fuel nozzles in the fuel system.

Counter for a Drug Dispenser

The invention is for a waterproof Inhaler Usage Indicator with or without a replaceable battery (6), to provide a count of the amount of drug remaining inside the canister (4) with the counter (1) still attached to the canister (4). It is not limited to inhalers alone, but any type of canister (4) that dispenses through a nozzle (24) when placed inside an housing (2) in order to count the number of displacements between the canister (4) and housing (2). The status of the drug can be checked at any time by a quick movement of the inhaler in any axis to allow the motion sensor (40, 41) to initiate the display of the amount of remaining drug uses. The counter assembly (1) is attached to the top of the canister (4) and uses the displacement between the canister (4) and housing (2) to count the number of uses.

Retrograde cannula having automatically inflatable balloon

InactiveUS20050085792A1Prevent drainageHalting the flow of cardioplegiaStentsBalloon catheterCardioplegiasCoronary sinus
Cardioplegia is delivered to a heart vessel by conducting the cardioplegia through an infusion lumen of a cannula. The cardioplegia communicates with a balloon disposed on a distal end of the cannula to cause the cardioplegia to inflate the balloon into sealing contact with a wall of the coronary sinus. The flow of cardioplegia is halted while preventing drainage of cardioplegia from the balloon, to maintain the balloon in its inflated state until such time as the flow of cardioplegia is resumed. Drainage of cardioplegia from the balloon is prevented by causing a valve to be shifted to a closed position blocking communication between the infusion lumen and the balloon. The valve can be shifted manually, or automatically in response to the halting of the delivery of cardioplegia.

Oil circulation retention system and method

A bearing lubrication (oil circulation) system having a check valve configuration for preventing overflow of an oil reservoir or tank. The pressurized oil circulation system may comprise a pump that pressurizes oil from the tank and circulates the oil through a supply conduit to a bearing, and returns the oil to the tank through a return conduit. The system may include a check valve disposed in the supply conduit and a pilot-operated check valve disposed in the return conduit. The pilot may be taken from the supply conduit upstream of the check valve disposed on the supply conduit. When pressure is discharged from the oil circulation, such as with shutdown of a circulation pump, the check valves automatically close and thus prevent oil contained in the supply and return conduits from draining (i.e., by gravity) to the oil tank. Therefore, flooding of the oil tank with excessive oil is prevented. Furthermore, loss of oil from the bearing sump is also prevented.

Sequential stepped directional control valve

A sequential stepped directional control valve accepts pressurized hydraulic fluid from a pressure port, and directs that pressurized fluid to a first stage port, or to both a first stage port and a second stage port. In the neutral position, the valve blocks the flow of pressurized hydraulic fluid into the valve. In the first stage position, pressurized hydraulic fluid flows into the valve and is directed by the valve to the first stage port, however, the fluid flow to the second stage port is blocked. In the second stage position, pressurized hydraulic fluid flows into the valve and is directed to both the first and second stage ports. When the valve transitions from the first stage position to the second stage position, the valve does not cycle through a neutral position, and the flow of pressurized hydraulic fluid to the first stage port is uninterrupted.

Engine oil filter

An engine oil filter assembly and method for removing solid and liquid contaminants from engine oil. After solid contaminants are removed by passing the oil under engine pressure upwardly through a fibrous filter element within a lower portion of a canister, the oil is then forced through a separator after which the filtered oil under pressure decompresses. A lid having a downwardly sloping central portion is closely spaced above a similar sloping central portion of the separator to define a heating channel therebetween. A heating element in fluid isolation from the heating channel radiates heat through the central lid portion to vaporize liquid contaminants still in the oil, the vaporized contaminants discharging through a vapor vent in the lid, the decontaminated oil passing by gravity through the heating channel into a drain insert and back into the engine via an oil return port.
