System and method for performing client-centric load balancing of multiple globally-dispersed servers

Presented is a system and a method for load balancing multiple globally-dispersed servers based on client-centric performance criteria. The infrastructure of the system includes load balancing domain name servers (DNS-LBs) deployed in close physical proximity to the Internet service providers' points of presence. The DNS-LBs are then able to monitor the performance of the servers from a location close to the clients, which allows the DNS-LBs to select a server that will yield the best performance from that location for the client. A second level of the infrastructure utilizes domain name servers (DNS-Bs) that are deployed on the Internet backbones and regional provides. The authoritative domain name servers (DNS-As) for the servers to be load balanced refer all name queries to these DNS-Bs. The DNS-Bs then refer the queries to one of the DNS-LBs based on a mapping of the DNS-ISP address to its physically proximate DNS-LB. The DNS-LB then returns the IP address of the server that will provide the best performance from that location.

Systems and Methods of Symmetric Transport Control Protocol Compression

A method for compressing a stream of application layer network traffic communicated over a transport layer connection of a virtual private network connection between a client and a server using an appliance. The appliance intercepts one or more transport layer packets of a stream of application network traffic communicated via a transport layer connection of a virtual private network connection between a client and a server. The appliance accumulates data from a payload of the intercepted transport layer packets, determines data accumulated for transmission should be compressed based on one or more compression trigger, and compresses the accumulated data into a self-contained compression block for transmission.

Methods and systems for transmission of subsequences of incremental query actions and selection of content items based on later received subsequences

The invention features a method of reducing perceived network latency in processing a query from a handheld client device processed by a remote system. The client device receives incremental input including a sequence of incremental user actions for identifying content items on the remote system. The client device transmits a first subsequence of the input to the remote system for incrementally identifying descriptive terms associated with desired content items. The remote system selects a first set of content items based on the first subsequence and transmits them in a reply to the client device. The client device selects a second set of content items from the first set based on a second subsequence of the input. The second subsequence includes incremental input received by the client device while it was waiting for the first reply. The client device orders and presents the second set of content items to the user.

Method and system for caching metadata of a storage system

A management server maintains a set of metadata describing a storage structure of a storage server. In response to a change of the storage structure, the management server automatically updates the set of metadata. The management server also manages information indicating what portion of the set of metadata is cached locally at a storage management client application. If that portion of the set of metadata is updated in response to the change of the storage structure, the management server sends information to update the metadata cached locally at the storage management client application so that the cached metadata is consistent with the set of metadata at the management server. By caching data at the storage management client application and at the network storage management server, the present invention advantageously avoids sending unnecessary requests to the storage server, thereby reducing network latency.

Method for optimizing hidden terminal based on physical layer interference information

The invention relates to a communication method for solving problems due to a hidden terminal in a wireless network based on a wireless interference cancellation technique and a node full-duplex mode. Under a wireless local area network physical layer, wireless network nodes are coded into special interference signals by an OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) technology, and overlapped into data signals in the air by means of ''attachment''. The control information and the data information can be transmitted in parallel, thus, the resource consumption on control information can be saved. The nodes for receiving the data information can remove the interference signals by an interference canceling technology in order to obtain the original data. The node for receiving the control information can demodulate the control signal from the mixed signal by an energy detecting technology, so as to obtain the physical address of the node which is transmitting in a collision domain, as well as establishing a relative node list. By inquiring the transmitting state and the receiving state of adjacent nodes, the node can determine whether it is the hidden terminal, so as to avoid transmission of conflict data and increase channel utilization rate.
