Multi stage control architecture for error suppression in micromachined gyroscopes

Due to restrictive tolerancing, structural imperfections that reduce performance of fabricated micro gyroscopes are typical. While feedback control is normally used to compensate for these imperfections, there are limitations to how large of errors for which this strategy can compensate without interfering with the performance of the sensor. A multi stage control architecture comprising in situ self-diagnostic capabilities, electronic “trimming” of errors, and feedback control allows for the compensation of all magnitudes of errors without interfering with the performance of the device. The self-diagnostic capabilities include an algorithm for determining structural imperfections based on the dynamic response of the system. The feedforward portion of the control is used to “trim” large imperfections, while the feedback portion compensates for the remaining non-idealities and small perturbations. A control architecture is shown in a gyroscope using nonlinear electrostatic parallel plate actuation.

Multiple layer polymeric cap and method of making the same

A cap is formed within the flash of a molded polymeric article. Desirably, the material of the flash, and hence the cap, has the same properties as the molded article. In one embodiment, the molded article is a multi-layer plastic fuel tank having a vapor barrier layer sandwiched between structural and / or adhesive layers and the cap has the same general construction and may be fixed or welded to the fuel tank over an opening through the tank. Advantageously, the cap is formed in the same process used to form the molded article and reduces the scrap or waste material by utilizing a portion of the flash which is removed from the molded article after it is formed. Therefore, the cost and time to produce a molded article and one or more caps is greatly reduced.

Thin film transistor memory device

A memory device includes a memory array of thin film transistor (TFT) memory cells. The memory cells include a floating gate separated from a gate electrode portion of a gate line by an insulator. The gate electrode portion includes a diffusive conductor that diffuses through the insulator under the application of a write voltage. The diffusive conductor forms a conductive path through the insulator that couples the gate line to the floating gate, changing the gate capacitance and therefore the state of the memory cell. The states of the memory cells are detectable as the differing current values for the memory cells. The memory cells are three terminal devices, and read currents do not pass through the conductive paths in the memory cells during read operations. This renders the memory cells robust, because read currents will not interfere with the storage mechanism in the memory cells. The memory array can be fabricated using multiple steps using the same mask. The use of a single mask for multiple steps reduces the time and cost involved in fabricating the memory array.
