The present invention relates to linking on-line data to printed documents, such as business cards, envelopes, stickers, stationary, letterhead, résumés, etc. In one embodiment, a card-user registers with an on-line database and receives a gallery item including a steganographically-embedded unique identifier. The gallery item, such as a graphical background, text, shading, graphic, etc., is integrated and then printed with a document. The printed document can then be presented an optical-scanner, which outputs data. The output data is decoded to identify the unique identifier. The unique identifier is then used to index into the on-line database to retrieve information related to the proprietor of the document. In one embodiment, the on-line database includes features such as providing an immediate contact number, translation and/or pronunciation ability, and storage of audio/video files.

A method, system, and computer program product for autonomously transcribing and building tagging data of a conversation. A corpus processing agent monitors a conversation and utilizes a speech recognition agent to identify the spoken languages, speakers, and emotional patterns of speakers of the conversation. While monitoring the conversation, the corpus processing agent determines emotional patterns by monitoring voice modulation of the speakers and evaluating the context of the conversation. When the conversation is complete, the corpus processing agent determines synonyms and paraphrases of spoken words and phrases of the conversation taking into consideration any localized dialect of the speakers. Additionally, metadata of the conversation is created and stored in a link database, for comparison with other processed conversations. A corpus, a transcription of the conversation containing metadata links, is then created. The corpus processing agent also determines the frequency of spoken keywords and phrases and compiles a popularity index.

A test apparatus having a base which performs a plurality of tests for different analytes in body fluids. A portable tester, such as a glucose meter, is detachably mounted to the base and provides a convenient and ergonomic hand-held instrument which a diabetic may carry to frequently monitor blood glucose levels. When mounted or docked to the base, the portable tester is data linked to the base. The invention provides a communications network among the base, the portable tester and another device such as a PC. The portable tester can therefore be kept small and inexpensive since advanced computing and data storage capabilities are provided in the base or a PC.

A method and apparatus provides OFDM signal compression for transfer over serial data links in a base transceiver system (BTS) of a wireless communication network. For the uplink, an RF unit of the BTS applies OFDM cyclic prefix removal and OFDM frequency transformation of the baseband signal samples followed by frequency domain compression of the baseband signal samples, resulting from analog to digital conversion of received analog signals followed by digital downconversion, forming compressed coefficients. After transfer over the serial data link, the baseband processor applies frequency domain decompression to the compressed coefficients prior to further signal processing. For the downlink, the RF unit performs frequency domain decompression of the compressed coefficients and applies OFDM inverse frequency transformation of the decompressed coefficients and OFDM cyclic prefix insertion prior to digital upconversion and digital to analog conversion, generating the analog signal for transmission over the antenna.

A method for processing a financial transaction using an interchange network computer coupled to a database is described. The transaction is initiated with a transaction card associated with a linked account. The method includes receiving, at the interchange network computer, a linked account data file for the first transaction card. The data file includes data associating the first card with a first secondary account and data linking the first secondary account to a first primary account. The method also includes storing the data file within the database and receiving a first authorization request message for the first transaction. The method also includes determining, based on data included within the first authorization request message, that the first card is associated with the first secondary account and processing the first authorization request message by applying at least one processing code associated with the first primary account to the first transaction.

A device for use in, and system for, a vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication and safety system that uses a hybrid combination of TDMA and CSMA protocols. The synchronized TDMA frame is partitioned into three prioritized time interval classes with differing priorities and dynamically changing sizes based on demand of higher-priority messages. The TDMA portions of a repeating time interval uses self-assigned dense time slots for high-priority safety messages, with one portion for emergency vehicles and road-side units. The CSMA protocol uses remaining available time for lower-priority and overflow messages. The higher-priority time interval classes change size dynamically based on the number of current transmissions. Modulation schemes, but not data link formats, use existing Standards. Embodiments include optimized traffic flow and signal timing.

The method and system for limiting the number of installations of a computer software program located on a read only disk from the read only disk to a computer. The read only disk is linked to a removable read/write memory by data on the removable read/write memory corresponding to data on the read only disk. Prior to installation of the computer software program from the read only disk to the computer, software residing on the removable read/write memory determines whether the installation is authorized. Such determination is made by comparing identification information corresponding to computers on to which the computer software program has previously been installed to installation limitations dictated by a software license agreement.

A system and method for transmitting data in computer systems using virtual streaming is described. Virtual streams are created by separation of the data into a plurality of parts which are stored on various components of the system and transmitted through multiple channels as partial streams, each representing a part of an overall virtual stream. The multiple partial streams are adapted to the characteristics of multiple channels allowing flexibility in optimizing the system for data link bandwidth requirements, user choice of specific desired contents, immediacy of media delivery, and security. The multiple partial streams comprising a single virtual stream are re-combined at the destination for presentation or subsequent processing.

A method and system for data mining is disclosed in which advertising/promotional events (e.g., the fact that a promotion was taking place when the transaction was recorded) are factored into association analysis of the data. Sales data is integrated with advertising data and a plurality of taxonomies are employed to link the merchandise data with the advertising data. This enhances the data so that the advertising status (advertised or non-advertised) can be determined and this information can be used to track the impact of advertising on product dynamics in market baskets and on sales. A signal compression method and apparatus for a base transceiver system (BTS) in a wireless communication network provides efficient transfer of compressed signal samples over serial data links in the system. For the uplink, an RF unit of the BTS compresses baseband signal samples resulting from analog to digital conversion of a received analog signal followed by digital downconversion. The compressed signal samples are transferred over the serial data link to the baseband processor then decompressed prior to normal signal processing. For the downlink, the baseband processor compresses baseband signal samples and transfers the compressed signal samples to the RF unit. The RF unit decompresses the compressed samples prior to digital upconversion and digital to analog conversion to form an analog signal for transmission over an antenna. Compression and decompression can be incorporated into operations of conventional base stations and distributed antenna systems, including OBSAI or CPRI compliant systems.

The centralized diagnostics management tool includes a diagnostics management console shell that is customized according to a set of software modules that interface to data sources to populate views supported by the console shell. The console shell includes a set of view templates including controls for manipulating graphically displayed representations of data rendered by the distributed components. The console shell also includes an interface for exchanging requests and data with an extensible set of software modules that provide data links to ones of the set of distributed components. Embodiments of the present invention are directed to a one-way data transfer system with built-in data verification mechanism, comprising three nodes (Send Node, Receive Node, and Feedback Node) wherein (1) the three nodes are interconnected with each other by a one-way data link, and (2) the Feedback Node is designed solely for processing and relaying data verification information from the Receive Node to the Send Node. In these embodiments, the Send Node is capable of verifying the status of data it transferred to the Receive Node over a one-way data link without sacrificing the unidirectionality of data flow in the system and thereby compromising the level of security provided by use of one-way data links.

A distributed Internet Protocol (IP) voting system and method for use in Land Mobile Radio (LMR) Systems having a central send-and-receive site and one or more receive-only sites. In the distributed voting system, receive-only sites are directly linked to the control point using a network and associated packet transmission protocol. This may be a high-speed asynchronous data link such as a standard IP network link. Each remote site receiving digital data, calculates a bit error for that data. This error calculation is incorporated into the data header information. The data header information and data are placed in an IP packet and transmitted as a User Data Protocol (UDP) message to the control point. The control point selects the lowest bit rate data message, or the first control message, and retransmits it using a standard radio air interface protocol, such as the APCO Project 25 air interface protocol.

A system providing an inductive power and data link between an external transmitter and miniature internal receiver is presented. The system is suited to applications where the receiver must be of a small size and the system must consume very little power, such as an implanted biomedical device. The system is also compatible with systems where bi-directional communications are required. The novel transmitter and receiver form an improved forward data telemetry system. The transmitter consists of a Class-E converter with its optimum operating frequency being synchronously, instantaneously and efficiently altered in accordance with the data to be transmitted, thereby producing an FSK modulated magnetic field of substantially constant amplitude. The constant amplitude output allows for the continuous, data-independent transfer of power to the miniature receiver and its associated electronics. The present invention also represents an improvement over the high efficiency Class-E converters previously patented by the inventors. The receiver consists of a coil and an integrated rectifying system to recover operating power from the incident magnetic field, as well as an FSK demodulator whose operation is based on the multiphase comparison of charging times of integrated capacitors. The described FSK demodulator approach removes deleterious effects resulting from low-frequency changes in the transmitter frequency, and eliminates time distortion artifacts generated by circuit imbalances and asymmetries in the power recovery process. The combination of the transmitter and receiver improvements yields a reliable data transfer system unaffected by circuit imbalances and incidental variations in the amplitude and frequency of the magnetic field.

A method and system in a data processing system are disclosed for the retransmission of only a portion of a data packet which had originally been transmitted incorrectly. A first data link is established between a first computer system and a second computer system. In response to the establishment of the first data link, a second data link is established between the first and second computer systems, whereby the first and second data links are related. A plurality of data packets are transmitted from the first computer system to the second computer system utilizing the first data link. Each of the data packets includes a plurality of segments. A determination is made whether each of the plurality of data packets is received correctly. In response to a determination that one of the plurality of data packets is received incorrectly, a portion of the data packet which was transmitted incorrectly is determined. Only the incorrectly transmitted portion of the data packet is then retransmitted by the first computer system utilizing the second data link.
