Indexed file system and a method and a mechanism for accessing data records from such a system

A computer filing system includes a data access and allocation mechanism including a directory and a plurality of indexed data files or hash tables. The directory is preferably a radix tree including directory entries which contain pointers to respective ones of the hash tables. Using a plurality of hash tables avoids the whole database ever having to be re-hashed all at once. If a hash table exceeds a preset maximum size as data is added, it is replaced by two hash tables and the directory is updated to include two separate directory entries each containing a pointer to one of the new hash tables. The directory is locally extensible such that new levels are added to the directory only where necessary to distinguish between the hash tables. Local extensibility prevents unnecessary expansion of the size of the directory while also allowing the size of the hash tables to be controlled. This allows optimisation of the data access mechanism such that an optimal combination of directory-look-up and hashing processes is used. Additionally, if the number of keys mapped to an indexed data file is less than a threshold number (corresponding to the number of entries which can be held in a reasonable index), the index for the data file is built with a one-to-one relationship between keys and index entries such that each index entry identifies a data block holding data for only one key. This avoids the overhead of the collision detection of hashing when it ceases to be useful.

Rare earth-containing high strength heat resisting magnesium alloy and preparation thereof

The invention relates to a high strength heat-resistant magnesium alloy containing rare earths of the technical field of metallic materials and a preparation method thereof. The magnesium alloy comprises the following components according to the mass percent: Y with more than or equal to 3% and less than or equal to 16%, Gd with more than or equal to 0% and less than or equal to 10%, Ca with more than or equal to 0.3% and less than or equal to 5%, Zr with more than or equal to 0.1% and less than or equal to 1.5%, and one or a plurality of Nd, Si, Sb, Ti, Sn, Sr, Bi, Cd, Nd with more than or equal to 0% and less than or equal to 5%, Si with more than or equal to 0% and less than or equal to 5%, Sb with more than or equal to 0% and less than or equal to 5%, Ti with more than or equal to 0% and less than or equal to 5%, Sn with more than or equal to 0% and less than or equal to 5%, Sr with more than or equal to 0% and less than or equal to 5%, Bi with more than or equal to 0% and less than or equal to 5%, Cd with with more than or equal to 0% and less than or equal to 5%, and the rest is Mg and impurities. The magnesium alloy is obtained by using melting and the subsequent heat treatment. The magnesium alloy not only can serve as casting magnesium alloy but also can serve as the deformation magnesium alloy and has better predominant mechanical property compared with the WE series commercial magnesium alloy.

Message transmission

A method of transmitting a message to user equipment within a telecommunications network, a controller operable to transmit a message to user equipment within a telecommunications network, a base station and a computer program product are disclosed. The method comprises the steps of: receiving a message having message content to be transmitted to user equipment within a predefined geographical area of the telecommunications network; identifying at least one multicast IP address designated as being associated with base stations providing telecommunications coverage with user equipment within the predefined geographical area; and transmitting the message content within at least one multicast message, each multicast message using a corresponding one of the at least one multicast IP address, over an IP network to base stations providing telecommunications coverage within the predetermined geographical area for onward transmission to user equipment. In this way, each base station identified by the multicast IP address will simultaneously receive the message, rather than each individual base station needing to have its own dedicated message sent to each base station sequentially. This not only significantly speeds the time taken for identified base stations to receive the message, it also reduces the amount of traffic required since the message is transmitted in a multicast manner. Furthermore, only those base stations which are associated with the multicast IP address will act on the message, all other base stations may ignore it. This helps to ensure that the message is only relayed to user equipment in a particular geographical region, rather than being delivered to all user equipment supported by all base stations associated with a particular controller.

Reduced-cross-talk coherent optical transmitter

An electro-optical modulator includes a substrate comprising a first Mach-Zehnder modulator comprising a first waveguide and a second waveguide and a second Mach-Zehnder modulator comprising a first waveguide and a second waveguide. A first positive signal electrode is positioned on the substrate over the first waveguide of the first Mach-Zehnder modulator and a first negative signal electrode is positioned on the substrate over the second waveguide of the first Mach-Zehnder modulator. The first positive signal electrode and the first negative signal electrode are connected to a first differential signal input. A second positive signal electrode is positioned on the substrate over the first waveguide of the second Mach-Zehnder modulator and a second negative signal electrode positioned on the substrate over the second waveguide of the second Mach-Zehnder modulator. The second positive signal electrode and the second negative signal electrode are connected to a second differential signal input. A first ground electrode is positioned on the substrate between the first and second Mach-Zehnder modulators connected to ground potential. A second ground electrode is connected to ground potential and positioned on the substrate adjacent to the first Mach-Zehnder modulator such that the first positive signal electrode and the first negative signal electrode are between the second ground electrode and the first ground electrode. A third ground electrode is connected to ground potential and positioned on the substrate adjacent to the second Mach-Zehnder modulator such that the second positive signal electrode and the second negative signal electrode are between the third ground electrode and the first ground electrode. A plurality of first electrical connectors connect the first ground electrode to the second ground electrode and a plurality of second electrical connectors connect the first ground electrode to the third ground electrode. A spacing between at least two of the plurality of first electrical connectors is chosen to achieve a desired cross talk between an optical signal generated by the first Mach-Zehnder modulator and an optical signal generated by the second Mach-Zehnder modulator.
