Amphibious vehicle

An amphibious vehicle achieves a stable ride, maneuverability, and high speed. The vehicle includes a hull having a ā€œVā€ center portion with outboard sponsons. The sponsons reside between the front wheel wells and the rear wheels wells for improving lift and transition to planing. Shallow tunnels begin in rear portions of the front wheel wells and taper into the sponsons to release water trapped in the wheel wells. Inward facing turning edges also reside between the front and rear wheel wells and improve in-water handling. Wheels are retractable by pneumatic cylinders in parallel with air shock absorbers and suspension cutout in the hull allow the suspension to lower through the hull. Flaps reside under suspension members and rise to cover the suspension cutouts when the wheels are retractable when the wheels are raised to reduce drag. A Morse cable couple a rack and pinion unit to a jet drive.

Methods for treating protein aggregation disorders

The present invention is based, at least in part on the discovery of therapeutic agents capable of preventing, inhibiting or modulating abnormal processing, misfolding or aggregation of protein. The therapeutic agents of the invention may prevent, inhibit or modulate the formation of inclusions. The therapeutic agents of the invention may also be capable of facilitating clearance and / or blocking the cellular toxicity of inclusions to treat or ameliorate disorders characterized by protein aggregation. Compounds which bind to structural motifs commonly found in protein aggregates, such as Ī²-sheets, would represent strong candidates for such compounds and are therefore desirable.

The present invention relates to a windback device and method of use to prevent lubricant from leaking from a lubricant sump. More specifically, the present invention is comprised of a windback device within a lubricant sump formed from the coupling of an annular sump housing, an annular fluid seal assembly, and a bearing. The annular housing substantially surrounds the runner to form a chamber. The seal assembly is coupled to a sump housing both of which are adapted to receive a rotatable runner such that a sealed chamber is formed around the runner. A plurality of inclined threads extend along an inner face of the windback device and are angled such that lubricant or fluid splashed from the rotating shaft is redirected away from a shaft seal element of the annular fluid seal and through leak off slots leading to the sump housing chamber.
