Motor generator including interconnected stators and stator laminations

An axial field motor / generator having a rotor that includes at least three annular discs magnetized to provide multiple sector-shaped poles. Each sector has a polarity opposite that of an adjacent sector, and each sector is polarized through the thickness of the disc. The poles of each magnet are aligned with opposite poles of each adjacent magnet. Metal members adjacent the outermost two magnets contain the flux. The motor / generator also has a stator that includes a stator assembly between each two adjacent magnets. Each stator assembly includes one or more conductors or windings. Although the conductors may be formed of wire having a round, uniform cross-section, they may alternatively be formed of conductors having a tapered cross-section that corresponds to the taper of the sectors in order to maximize the density of the conductor in the gap between axially adjacent poles. The conductors may also alternatively be formed of traces in a printed circuit, which may have one or more layers. Each stator assembly may be removably connectable to another stator assembly to provide modularity in manufacturing and to facilitate selection of the voltage at which the motor / generator is to operate. Electrical contacts, such as pins extending from the casing, may removably connect the conductors of adjacent stator assemblies. A magnet may be dynamically balanced on the shaft by hardening a thin ring of cross-linked resin between the magnet and the shaft while the shaft is spun, using ultraviolet light to polymerize the resin.

Variable formatting of digital data into a pattern

A method of formatting digital data and a method of decoding the formatted digital data. User selectable format parameters vary the dimensions and other attributes of spots and the cells containing those spots as well as other features which the formatting process formats into a pattern. A method of encoding the formatted digital data using these format parameters allows for encoding a substrate optimally for any given printer or scanner. One embodiment provides for markers to facilitate determination of cell locations. In one embodiment the decoding process achieves a pyramid gain of knowledge by locating a landmark (801), which is located in a known position relative to a metasector (802), which contains information about the encoding process used to encode the main body of data (803), which the decoding process decodes to recover the original digital data. Further embodiments include encryption, transmission by facsimile, inclusion of human readable information, and automatic launches of computer files.

Method for producing components with internal architectures, such as micro-channel reactors, via diffusion bonding sheets

This invention relates to a method for producing components with internal architectures, and more particularly, this invention relates to a method for producing structures with microchannels via the use of diffusion bonding of stacked laminates. Specifically, the method involves weakly bonding a stack of laminates forming internal voids and channels with a first generally low uniaxial pressure and first temperature such that bonding at least between the asperites of opposing laminates occurs and pores are isolated in interfacial contact areas, followed by a second generally higher isostatic pressure and second temperature for final bonding. The method thereby allows fabrication of micro-channel devices such as heat exchangers, recuperators, heat-pumps, chemical separators, chemical reactors, fuel processing units, and combustors without limitation on the fin aspect ratio.

Method and apparatus is described for identifying a subset of components of a system, the subset being capable of predicting a feature of a test sample. The method comprises generating a linear combination of components and component weights in which values for each component are determined from data generated from a plurality of training samples, each training sample having a known feature. A model is defined for the probability distribution of a feature wherein the model is conditional on the linear combination and wherein the model is not a combination of a binomial distribution for a two class response with a probit function linking the linear combination and the expectation of the response. A prior distribution is constructed for the component weights of the linear combination comprising a hyperprior having a high probability density close to zero, and the prior distribution and the model are combined to generate a posterior distribution. A subset of components is identified having component weights that maximise the posterior distribution.

A method of subjecting a middle-distillate hydrocarbon feedstock to a hydrotreating reactions to remove heteroatoms and / or hydrogenate aromatics, and apparatus therefor. The method comprising heating a liquid middle distillates hydrocarbon feedstock to produce a heated feedstock, mixing the heated feedstock with a hydrogen-containing treating gas to produce a mixture, and bringing the mixture into contact with a hydrotreating catalyst at an elevated temperature and an elevated pressure effective for hydrotreating the feedstock. The hydrogen-containing gas is mixed with the heated feedstock in a ratio effective to fully vaporize the liquid feedstock at the elevated temperature and pressure before the feedstock is contacted with said hydrotreating catalyst. Ideally, the mixture is passed through a catalyst bed creating a pressure drop in the gas mixture equal to or less than 0.3 bar / m. Such a catalyst bed may be made of structured catalysts, such as monolithic catalysts.

Method and apparatus for performing high-density DTMF, MF-R1, MF-R2 detection

Detectors determine the presence of valid sinusoids for DTMF, MF-R1 and MF-R2 protocols for encoding dialed digits. The detectors split electrical signals into subbands. Energies within the subbands are analyzed to determine a presence of sinusoids corresponding to frequencies of dialed digits. In one embodiment, the detectors comprise a PS-IIR filter to split the electrical signal into the subbands. The detectors further comprise at least one bank of filters, such as notch filters, corresponding to the number of possible relevant frequencies within the respective subbands. The detectors further comprise detection logic comprising tests, which may include analyzing the output(s) from the bank of filters. Optionally, a preclassifier is employed to predetermine which filters in the banks of filters are to be executed. The detectors, typically deployed in digital signal processors, allow for an increase in the density of detectors and provide robust performance in talk-off situations.
