Multi-layer pleat support filter construction

InactiveUS20040060858A1Superior filtration performanceImprove flowSemi-permeable membranesMembrane filtersEngineeringStreamflow
A filter element is disclosed that includes a filtration media, an upstream pleat support and a multi-layer downstream pleat support. The multi-layer downstream support includes a first downstream support layer and a second downstream support layer. The first downstream support layer is in contact with the filtration media and is interposed between the filtration media and the second downstream layer. The first downstream support layer is fabricated so as to minimize points of surface contact with the filtration media, thereby enhancing fluid flow away from the filtration media. The second downstream support layer is in contact with the first downstream support layer and is fabricated so as to facilitate lateral fluid flow relative to the multi-layer downstream pleat support. The disclosed filter element may be utilized in filter cartridges of various designs to provide enhanced filtration performance, e.g., by way of increased media area and improved flow / throughput.

Method of stimulating oil and gas wells using deformable proppants

ActiveUS20060151170A1Minimizing proppant pack damageImproves retained proppant pack permeabilityFluid removalDrilling compositionFracturing fluidUltimate tensile strength
A method of fracturing using deformable proppants minimizes proppant pack damage, without compromising the fracturing fluid's proppant transport properties during pumping, by use of deformable proppants. Selection of proppant is dependent upon the mechanical properties of the formation rock. The strength of the deformable proppant is dependent upon the modulus of the formation rock being treated such that the proppant is capable of providing, at the very least, a minimum level of conductivity in in-situ stress environments. The maximum elastic modulus of the deformable proppant is less than the minimum modulus of the formation rock which is being treated. The method is particularly applicable in fracturing operations of subterranean reservoirs such as those comprised primarily of coal, chalk, limestone, dolomite, shale, siltstone, diatomite, etc.

Sliding mechanism apparatus and appliance integrated with the same

Disclosed is a sliding mechanism apparatus used for slidably opening and closing a slider-type cellular phone. A guide member and a slider member are engaged with each other so as to enable to slide relative to each other. The end of one arm of a first torsion spring is connected to the slider member near the left edge thereof. The end of the other arm thereof is coupled to the right half area of the guide member. The end of one arm of a second torsion spring is connected to the slider member near the right edge thereof. The end of the other arm thereof is coupled to the left half area of the guide member. From the expanded original state of the first and second torsion springs, if an external force is exerted on the slider member or the guide member, the torsion springs are compressed into an acute angle and then spread again by means of the elastic force thereof. In this way, the slider member can move to the lowermost position or the lowermost position. In the first and second torsion springs, the distance between the ends of two arms is larger than at least half of the width of the slider member. Therefore, the first and second torsion springs can maximally utilize the width of the guide member while turning, thereby extending the maximum travel distance of the slider member.

Infant headgear for supporting a patient airway interface device

A headgear for securing a patient airway interface device to a patient's head, and in particular an infant patient. The headgear includes a central body, first and second forehead straps, and first and second lower straps. The forehead straps extend from opposite side of the central body. The lower straps also extend from opposite sides of the central body, and are inferiorly spaced from a corresponding forehead strap. Upon application to a patient's head, the central body and the forehead straps establish a line of attachment extending from the patient's forehead to a nape of the patient's neck (i.e., adjacent the occipital bone). The lower straps are then available for connecting an airway interface piece to the headgear.

Harmonic optimization technology

A method and an apparatus or apparatus system for vibration control, by harmonic optimization technology, of vibrations in the cantilever or barrel, portion of a device from which a projectile is fired or launched along the centerline of the cantilever. More particularly this invention relates to rifles, where the rifle barrel is a cantilever portion, and methods and apparatus for increasing the accuracy of firing projectiles. The invention is principally directed to a method and apparatus including a mass device affixed to a flexible cylinder extension at the muzzle end, inertial mass devices, having combustion pressure reduction features, affixed intermediate the muzzle end and the cartridge chamber, and a spring suspension system between barrel and rifle stock affixed proximal to the cartridge chamber. This system decreases the angular dispersion of barrel vibrations at the muzzle resulting from the firing of projectiles through such barrels.

System and method for bone fixation

A system and method for maintaining positions of bones fixed or approximated relative to each other is provided that is ideal for minimizing interference with surrounding viscera in spinal column procedures, although other good application therefor are also disclosed. In the preferred form, a cable anchoring apparatus in the form of a screw member having an elongate shank that is threaded for substantially the full length thereof is employed. An internal driver surface is provided so that the size of the proximate end of the shank can be minimized or maintained consistently sized with respect to the reminder of the shank with no enlarged driver head formed thereat. This allows the amount of bone material that is removed from full insertion of the screw anchor to be minimized, i.e. no countersinking for an enlarged driver head is necessary, thus improving holding power of the cable anchor herein. Further, the full threading of the shank for substantially its entire length enables the screw member to be fully sunk into the bone so that no portions thereof, such as an enlarged screw head, project into the surrounding body cavity in which the bone is located. In the spinal column application, a criss-cross cable pattern is disclosed to better resist torsional forces and keep any decompression devices in place in the gap between adjacent vertebrae.

Supplemental support structures adapted to receive a non-invasive dynamic motion therapy device

Several embodiments of supplemental support structures for receiving a non-invasive dynamic motion therapy device are provided. The non-invasive dynamic motion therapy device provides vibrational treatment to patients suffering from postural instability and other conditions, such as cystic fibrosis, as well as paraplegic patients. The non-invasive dynamic motion therapy device is typically employed following a determination that vibrational treatment of a patient's musculoskeletal system and / or internal organs would produce a beneficial result. The supplemental support structures enable the patient to be supported on a vibrational table or unstable vibrating platform of the non-invasive dynamic motion therapy device during treatment.

Distributed interactive multimedia system architecture

Various aspects of an interactive multimedia system and associated methods. In general, the multimedia system employs central and peripheral hubs that function to provide services to a plurality of clients of a call manager server, or manager subsystem. The hubs and subsystem cooperate to serve requests originating in the plurality of clients. The client-server-client architecture allows for distributed processing and resource management. Redundant connections between the various network subsystems and hubs provide survivability. Each subsystem or hub is provided with the ability to initialize or recover from systemic errors, thereby distributing initialization and recovery. Certain of the distributed resources are capable of being managed from other subsystems, thereby allowing sharing of the resources. An open numbering plan allows efficient call treatment of dialed numbers. Call processing is sharable between multiple manager subsystems. Finally, an iterative process is employed to ensure that calls routed through the network travel the shortest possible path.

Key switch exhibiting low noise operation

A keyswitch apparatus features a key cap having a stem slidably moveable within a housing of a keyboard frame, to interact with an underlying membrane switch. According to one embodiment, the stem is square and at least two sets of channel-like guides on opposite sides of the stem are configured to be in sliding engagement with corresponding ribs projecting from the housing. Sliding engagement between the ribs and corresponding guides serves to minimize points of contact between the key cap and housing, reducing noise of operation. The rigid ribs and corresponding guides are relatively simple shapes that facilitate their fabrication with precise dimensional tolerances.
