Recording method and apparatus, optical disk, and computer-readable storage medium

A recording apparatus records movie content onto a DVD. The movie content is encrypted using a different encryption method depending on whether the DVD is intended for consumer use or industrial use. If the DVD is for consumer use, a VIDEO_TS directory is created on the DVD, and the encrypted movie content is recorded in the VIDEO_TS directory. If the DVD is for industrial use, a VIDEO_TS directory and an EWCPS_TS directory are created on the DVD, and the encrypted movie content and message data are recorded respectively in the EWCPS_TS directory and the VIDEO_TS directory. The message data indicates that the movie content cannot be played back by consumer DVD players.

Disk drive with controlled reduced internal pressure

A rigid magnetic recording disk drive includes a vacuum pump attached to the disk drive housing for removing air from within the housing so that the disk drive is operated at a reduced internal gas pressure. The pump motor is controlled by control circuitry that receives an input signal representative of the pressure within the housing to enable the pressure to be maintained within a predetermined reduced pressure range. Because spindle motor current has been directly correlated with internal pressure, a signal representative of the spindle motor current is used as the input to the pump control circuitry. The pump control circuitry also prevents the pump from turning on until the spindle motor has reached its stable operating speed, and from turning on when the disk drive is reading or writing data. Because of the reduced internal pressure the disk drive operates at a significantly higher disk RPM with only a minimal increase in power consumption and without any increase in track misregistration.

System for measuring and indicating changes in the resistance of a living body

A system for measuring changes in the resistance of a living body includes a resistance measuring circuit, an amplifier circuit and an indicator circuit in which the amplifier circuit includes a calibration circuit to give a generally constant amplitude response to a given measured input. Radio frequency insulators are included to reduce noise in the system. The circuits are operated such that when an overall change in the resistance of a living body occurs, the resistance measuring circuit is adjusted to determine the overall resistance. To account for changes in sensitivity caused by the overall change in resistance, the gain of the amplifier circuit is automatically adjusted to thereby maintain a generally constant amplitude response.

Method of regulating reflectance of worm type optical recording medium and worm type optical recording medium

The reflectance of an optical recording medium for which high speed recording using a laser beam with blue wavelength or a shorter wavelength than blue light is possible is adjusted to a predetermined value of no more than 60%. A recording layer 18 of a high-speed write-once type optical recording medium 10 is formed by laminating first and second sub-recording layers 18A, 18B, each of which contains one type of different metal as a primary component. When laser beam of a blue wavelength is irradiated onto the recording layer 18, the irradiation causes the primary component metals contained within each of the first and second sub-recording layers 18A, 18B to diffuse and mix, and this mixing forms a recording mark with an irreversibly changed reflectance. The recording layer 18 is sandwiched between first and second dielectric layers 20, 16, and by adjusting the material and the thickness of the recording layer 18 and the first and second dielectric layers 20, 16, the reflectance of the unrecorded sections can be adjusted to a value within a range from 5% to 60%.
