A photosensitizer dye that can be used for both cell imaging and photodynamic therapy is designed and synthesized using Nile blue dye as a matrix. This type of dye retains the high molar extinction coefficient, fluorescence imaging, and reactive oxygen species generation efficiency of Nile blue dye, can effectively improve the killing ability against breast cancer cells, especially BRCA-mutated breast cancer cells, and has a higher lethality. At the same time, it reduces the dark toxicity of the photosensitizer in normal cells and induces ferroptosis in breast cancer cells, thereby achieving extensive killing of breast cancer.
