According to the invention, the horizontal displacement or vertical displacement deformation on monitoring points on a monitoring section is monitored by a convergence gauge in certain distance in front of and behind the monitoring section so as to solve technical problems and difficulties of security threat of deformation monitoring operation in a tunnel section, and to further solve the problems of high danger and high cost in working high above the ground in the deformation monitoring on a large tunnel; furthermore, base points for long-term use are flexibly selected on the ground or near the ground, so that the base points are prevented from being damaged in a monitoring process, and meanwhile, the interference of various construction factors is avoided. The method is particularly applicable to geologic surrounding rock convergence deformation monitoring on large-size tunnels, and is also applicable to deformation monitoring on high slopes and upright and giant buildings or objects and to monitoring under non-height conditions. The invention further proposes a characteristic side forming method which is simple and feasible, so that the monitoring can be carried out safely and conveniently with small investment, only some ordinary steel wires and a telescopic rod as main auxiliary equipment are needed, and moreover, independent operation of one person can be generally realized.
