A shaft seal having a high abrasion resistance is disclosed, by which the leakage of the gas from the high-pressure side to the low-pressure side can be reduced. In the shaft seal, flexible leaves are multi-layered to form a ring shape. The shaft seal is mainly arranged around the rotation shaft of a gas turbine or the like. The relevant turbine comprises a casing, a compressor, a rotation shaft, moving blades attached to the rotation shaft, and stationary blades attached to the casing in a manner such that the stationary blades face the moving blades, wherein the shaft seals are provided between a plurality of stationary blades and the rotation shaft wherein the leaves of each shaft seal contact the rotation shaft. Under the rated operating conditions, the top ends of the leaves slightly separate from the surface of the rotation shaft due to the dynamic pressure generated by the rotation of the rotation shaft. When the turbine is not operated, the top ends of the leaves contact the rotation shaft again due to the elastic restoring force of the leaves.

Wire-guided interventional devices and methods are provided which enable faster and easier catheter exchanges. The interventional devices include a catheter shaft and a guidewire tube wherein the catheter shaft and the guidewire tube each have a length sufficient to extend to the vascular penetration when the interventional device is positioned at the treatment site. In some embodiments, a collar is disposed around the catheter shaft and guidewire tube that automatically inserts or removes the guidewire from the guidewire tube or automatically collapses or extends the guidewire tube as the catheter is introduced or withdrawn.

The inflatable air mattress is placed on top of a conventional mattress, and is retained in place by straps that are secured to the bed frame. In the preferred embodiment, the inflatable air mattress includes a pair of identical chambers, the chambers being of rectangular shape and separated by a hinge line. Each chamber is divided into several, parallel cells, and a separate air pump is connected to each chamber. When energized, the pump forces pressurized air into the chamber and rapidly fills same. As the chamber is filled, it expands and is capable of rotating a patient positioned thereon, through a 90° arc of motion. With the intervention of a health care worker, or a nurse, the patient may then be rolled over from his front to his back, or vice versa.

In a light guide plate 63, a light introducing unit 65 having a thickness larger than that of a light guide plate body 64 is provided at an end of the light guide plate body 64. The present invention provides the art with a scroll machine which has a plurality of built-in volume ratios along with their respective design pressure ratios. The incorporation of more than one built-in volume ratio allows a single compressor to be optimized for more than one operating condition. The operating envelope for the compressor will determine which of the various built-in volume ratios is going to be selected. Each volume ratio includes a discharge passage extending between one of the pockets of the scroll machine and the discharge chamber. All but the highest volume ration utilize a valve controlling the flow through the discharge passage.

Novel phototherapeutic methods and compositions are described herein. Nanoparticle-assembled microcapsules as a new type of delivery vehicle for photosensitive compounds may be synthesized through a two-step assembly process. Charged polymer chains and counterions may be combined with a photosensitive compound to form photosensitive aggregates, and then nanoparticles may be combined with the aggregates to form the microcapsules. The shell may be composed of nanoparticles and/or polymer, and the core interior may contain the photosensitive compound. Formation occurs rapidly (on the order of seconds) and the conditions are very mild (at room temperature, in aqueous solution, and at neutral pH). The microcapsule synthesis is highly suitable as an encapsulation method, particularly for a charged photosensitive molecule like ICG.

A trash bag for containing wet trash has an outer ply of fluid imperious material defining an outer front wall and an outer rear wall of the bag, and an inner ply of fluid pervious material defining an inner front wall and an inner rear wall of the bag. The inner and outer plies form a compartment between them which contains a highly fluid absorbent material. The material is capable of capturing any fluids that enter the compartment from the interior of the bag thereby minimizing fluid leakage from the bag in the event that the outer ply of the bag is breeched. The material in the compartment may be combined with or include any of a variety of additional substances designed to act on, react to or counter the effects of fluids absorbed by the material. A low-cost, consumer version of the trash bag eliminates the inner ply, and simply comprises an outer ply of fluid impervious material with an inner liner of fluid absorbent material such as cellulose fluff pulp in sheet form.

An adjustable roof ventilator jack for operationally coupling a roof ventilator to a venting aperture extending through a sloped roof. The jack includes a base section having base section front, rear and side walls. The base section is configured so as to be angled in a direction opposite the slope of the roof. The jack also includes a pivotable section having pivotable section front and side walls. The pivotable section front wall is pivotally attached to the base section for pivotal movement between an extended configuration wherein the pivotable and base section front walls are in a substantially parallel relationship relative to each other and a retracted configuration wherein the inner surface of the pivotable and base section front walls form an obtuse angle. The jack further includes a position lock for selectively locking the base and pivotable sections in a predetermined angular relationship relative to each other.

A planetary gear wheel construction with one or several planet wheels which are bearing-mounted on a planet carrier, which is provided in a rotating manner in a housing, and an oil lubrication which is formed of an oil supply via a ring-shaped channel in the housing formed of a ring-shaped groove and a distribution element turning along with the planet carrier which is held in said groove such that it can rotate, and which is provided with a passage to connect said oil channel to an oil channel in the planet carrier which opens at a planet wheel, wherein the distribution element is coupled to the planet carrier by means of a loose connection which makes it possible to transmit the rotational movement of the planet carrier to the distribution element, and in that the oil channel in the planet carrier is connected to the passage in the distribution element by means of a flexible or moving oil pipe.

A novel nasal adapter is provided that conforms to, and seals with the base (underside) of a nose. Upward pressure exerted against the inventive nasal adapter compressibly conforms an adapter lip to seal with the underside of the nose. The nasal adapter provides for the comfortable, discreet, and effective transmission of deliverable flow (e.g., fluid, gas, airborne particles and medicament, etc.) to the nasal chambers with minimal leakage. In preferred embodiments, the nasal adapter is formed of a single molded piece made of flexible material and can be made in various sizes to adaptably conform to a broad range of nose sizes, and conformations. Particularly preferred embodiments comprise dual delivery channels with dual outflow apertures that are in communication with at least one lip that is proportioned and disposed to provide for separate delivery channels to each nostril.

A scroll fluid machine with ensured reliability of an oil seal and a bearing even in a compressor operation at high rpm and high load is provided, which includes: a fixed scroll; an orbiting scroll facing the fixed scroll and having a boss provided on a face opposite to the fixed scroll; a drive shaft having a leading end mounted to the boss; an orbiting bearing supporting the drive shaft in connection with the orbiting scroll; and a seal member placed between the boss and the drive shaft to seal against a lubricant supplied to the orbiting bearing. The seal member has an oil lip producing action of moving the lubricant toward the orbiting bearing by rotation of the drive shaft. A communication passage is provided in the oil lip for communication between a space between the orbiting bearing and the seal member and a space outside the boss.

In an attachment structure of a gasket for a refrigerant-seal, both first and second connection members are disposed to define a seal space by first and second opposite surfaces and first and second wall surfaces, and the gasket having a beam portion is disposed in the seal space so that one end surface of the gasket is held on the first wall surface of the first connection member and the other end surface of the gasket is separated from the second wall surface of the second connection member by a predetermined clearance, before both the first and second connection members are fastened. After both the first and second connection members are fastened, the gasket extends, and the other end surface of the gasket press-contacts the second wall surface.

Proteins including enzymes, antibodies, and serum albumin are loaded in the self-assembled gels to provide sustained and/or responsive delivery. The encapsulated proteins retain at least 70%, 80%, or 90% of their activity over days in various storage conditions.
