126 results about "Defining length" patented technology

In genetic algorithms and genetic programming defining length L(H) is the maximum distance between two defining symbols (that is symbols that have a fixed value as opposed to symbols that can take any value, commonly denoted as # or *) in schema H. In tree GP schemata, L(H) is the number of links in the minimum tree fragment including all the non-= symbols within a schema H.

Method and apparatus for transmitting/receiving packet data using pre-defined length indicator in a mobile communication system

A method and apparatus for enabling efficient use of radio resources by reducing an RLC PDU size in a mobile communication system supporting voice service over a packet network are provided. An RLC layer constructs an RLC PDU without inserting information indicating the start and end of an SDU or indicating the use or non-use of padding. The RLC layer sets an LI in a header to indicate inclusion of an intermediate SDU segment in the data field of the RLC PDU. Therefore, the resulting decrease of overhead arising from packet transmission facilitates the efficient use of limited radio resources.

Length-variable auditory ossicle prosthesis

An auditory ossicle prosthesis with a first and a second securing element for mechanical securement in the middle ear as well as a connecting element, which is rigidly connected to the securing elements and connects them to each other and has a receiving part and a push-in part that can be pushed into a receiving opening of the same, the connecting element being designed so as to be variable in length in the axial direction between the receiving part and the push-in part, and it being possible for the receiving part and the push-in part to be clamped in a desired relative coaxial pushed-in position, characterized in that the clamping force FK between the receiving part and the push-in part in the clamped state is at least 10 times, preferably approximately 100 times, greater than the maximum external forces naturally occurring in the middle ear in the region of the ossicles. In this way it is possible in a simple manner for a desired, defined length of the prosthesis to be established even before it is clamped in between the two securing points, and for this length to be maintained exactly with a lasting effect even after completion of the operation, for example after the insertion of a second securing element, formed as a piston, through a perforated stirrup footplate.

In one embodiment, information is enciphered using a variable block length cipher that returns the encrypted symbol set in any defined symbol set with a radix greater than or equal to the plaintext format. Method to produce single stranded DNA of defined length and sequence and DNA probes produced thereby

A method for producing a single stranded DNA (ssDNA) molecule of a defined length and sequence is disclosed. This method enables the preparation of, inter alia, probes of greater length than can be chemically synthesized. The method starts with a double stranded molecule, such as genomic, double stranded DNA (dsDNA) from any organism. A fragment of the starting molecule (dsDNA) is amplified by specific primers engineered to introduce cleavage sites on either side of the desired sequence. Cleavage steps on the amplified, engineered fragment are combined with a phosphate removal step, thereby creating a construct that can be digested with an exonuclease without damage to the desired ssDNA. Probes, which hybridize with large gaps between the ends of the probes, are also disclosed.

Method for assigning encryption keys

Sets of encryption keys useful by devices for decrypting encrypted content are defined using an error-correcting code such as a Reed-Solomon code to define vectors of length “n” over an alphabet of (0, . . . , N−1), wherein “n” is the number of columns in a key matrix and “N” is the number of rows in the matrix. Each vector represents a set of keys that can be assigned to a device. With this invention, overlap between sets of keys can be minimized to minimize the possibility that the key set of an innocent device might be inadvertently revoked when the key set of a compromised device is revoked. Also, only the generating matrix of the error-correcting code and the index of one set of keys need be stored in memory, since all previously defined key sets can be regenerated if need be from just the generating matrix and index.

Biomass converters and processes

This invention pertains to a bio-mass processing system, and method of processing waste bio-mass, wherein one or more mixers mixes a bed of bio-mass material such as manure at substantially any and all locations in a defined length and width portion of the bed, in a dryer. Heated air percolates upwardly through the bed. Separation apparatus separates a relatively dryer fraction of the bio-mass material from the dryer. The separated finished product from the dryer is optionally fed to a boiler where the dried bio-mass material is burned. Heat of combustion from the boiler is used as dryer heat for drying the bio-mass feed material in the dryer. Excess heat is optionally used to produce steam, which powers a turbine, which powers an electrical generator. Residual ash from the combustion process comprises about 2% by weight of the solids content of e.g. a feed stream coming into the dryer.

Passive athermal fiber bragg grating strain gage

ActiveUS7068869B1Enhanced positive temperature sensitivityReduced positive temperature sensitivityForce measurementCoupling light guidesFiberCross sensitivity
Fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) are particular suitable for measuring strain. However, a single parameter measurement is difficult to implement, since cross-sensitivity to temperature compels the use of an additional temperature reference, e.g. a strain-inactive FBG. The development of a passive athermal fiber Bragg grating strain gage is thus of particular interest since it renders optional the measurement of temperature, benefiting large scale system design and performance. In view of this need, a package for fiber Bragg gratings that enables strain measurements to be performed while canceling temperature sensitivity is disclosed. The proposed design is based on a structure composed of two parts, which can be made of the same material, having a defined length ratio that allows the adjustment of the temperature sensitivity to zero, providing athermal operation of the strain gage. Moreover, the disclosed passive athermal scheme is adjustable to further compensate for structural thermal expansion, enabling the load-induced strain component to be decoupled from the temperature-induced strain component.

Sparse data compression

The invention relates to compressing of sparse data sets contains sequences of data values and position information therefor. The position information may be in the form of position indices defining active positions of the data values in a sparse vector of length N. The position information is encoded into the data values by adjusting one or more of the data values within a pre-defined tolerance range, so that a pre-defined mapping function of the data values and their positions is close to a target value. In one embodiment, the mapping function is defined using a sub-set of N filler values which elements are used to fill empty positions in the input sparse data vector. At the decoder, the correct data positions are identified by searching though possible sub-sets of filler values.

System and method for generating optimized binary representation of an object tree

A system and related techniques accept extensible application markup language (XAML) inputs corresponding to object trees, such as those representing user interface elements, and map those inputs to a binary construct. The XAML inputs may illustratively include, for example, user interface elements such as dialog boxes having defined length, color, input sections and so forth. A mapping engine may generate tokenized binary outputs representing the XAML file input and ultimately the associated user interface or other object. The binary representation generated by the mapping engine may be optimized in multiple ways, including to encode dimension information such as length, width etc. of dialog boxes or other elements in the binary representation without a necessity for explicit definition. Other optimizations include the type indexing of data types when a novel instance of the type is first encountered, and embedding loader definitions to load the object or data reflected in the binary representation without having to do a lookup against loader lists. Because the resulting binary representation is more compact than the corresponding XAML input and is optimized for certain operations, operating system and application interfaces may load and present more quickly than conventional XML-type files. The binary representation may be exposed through APIs to calling application, operating system or other programs.
