The blocks must be laid in the upright position but may be rotated end to end as required for aesthetic reasons or to create an additional square internal cell. The blocks are supported by a tongue and groove engagement at the four external corners and four internal locking members that engage within the block on the course above. Knockout sections and relief areas are supplied for the installation of reinforcing bars. When the blocks are turned at a ninety degree angle to make a corner, the internal locking members engage in the square end cell of the block above equally as well as they do in a straight course of blocks.

Use of an in vitro hemodynamic endothelial/smooth muscle cell co-culture model to identify new therapeutic targets for vascular disease

An in vitro biomechanical model used to applied hemodynamic (i.e., blood flow) patterns modeled after the human circulation to human / animal cells in culture. This model replicates hemodynamic flow patterns that are measured directly from the human circulation using non-invasive magnetic resonance imaging and translated to the motor that controls the rotation of the cone. The cone is submerged in fluid (i.e., cell culture media) and brought into close proximity to the surface of the cells that are grown on the plate surface. The rotation of the cone transduces momentum on the fluid and creates time-varying shear stresses on the plate or cellular surface. This model most closely mimics the physiological hemodynamic forces imparted on endothelial cells (cell lining blood vessels) in vivo and overcomes previous flow devices limited in applying more simplified nonphysiological flow patterns. Another aspect of this invention is directed to incorporate a transwell co-cultured dish. This permits two to three or more different cell types to be physically separated within the culture dish environment, while the inner cellular surface is exposed to the simulated hemodynamic flow patterns. Other significant modifications include custom in-flow and out-flow tubing to supply media, drugs, etc. separately and independently to both the inner and outer chambers of the coculture model. External components are used to control for physiological temperature and gas concentration. The physical separation of adherent cells by the artificial transwell membrane and the bottom of the Petri dish permits each cell layer, or surface to be separately isolated for an array of biological analyses (i.e., protein, gene, etc.).

Multicast cell buffer for network switch

An input port for a network switch includes a cell buffer for receiving incoming unicast and multicast cells and for writing each cell into an internal cell memory. The cell buffer thereafter forwards each unicast cell from the cell memory to one network switch output port and forwards a separate copy of each multicast cell to each of several network switch output ports. When the cell buffer writes a unicast cell to the cell memory, it sends a pointer to the storage location of the unicast cell to a queue manager. When the cell buffer writes a multicast cell to the cell memory, it sends several pointers to the queue manager, one for each output port that is to receive a copy of the multicast cell, with each pointer pointing not to the multicast cell's storage location but to an empty storage location in the cell memory. The cell buffer also maintains a database relating each pointer it sent to the queue manager to an actual storage location of a unicast or multicast cell. The queue manager queues the pointers an order in which cells are to be forwarded from the cell buffer, and thereafter returns a pointer to the cell buffer whenever the cell buffer is to forward a unicast cell or a copy of a multicast cell from the cell memory. The cell buffer applies each returned pointer to the database to determine the actual location of the unicast or multicast cell to be forwarded.

The invention discloses bioprotein sponge and a preparation method thereof. According to the characteristics that internal cells of a human body and an animal body adapt to cell growth environments, the bioprotein is freezed into a dry sponge shape through freeze drying technology by utilizing intercellular substances as controlled-release carrieres of growth factors and acts on the trauma of the human body or the animal body in controlled-release medicament feeding mode. The preparation method of the bioprotein sponge changes the traditional preparation process, adopts S / D virus inactivation, and adds protective agent to reduce probability of virus cross infection of people and livestock simultaneously. The CM cation chromatographic purification process improves purity of bioprotein, promotes stanching and tissue union effect of the bioprotein sponge and reduces clinical side effect. An ultrafiltration process is adopted to replace a dialysis process, so that preparation period is shortened, activity of the bioprotein is protected, and production cost is reduced. A method of heating inactivation virus replaces the method of cobalt60 radiation sterilization, so that the fact that radiation rays bring damage to products is avoided, the activity of the bioprotein is protected, and safe and reliable use of products in clinical application is achieved.

Disclosed is a method for monitoring early treatment response of a cancer treatment comprising measuring by magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS), for example, proton MRS, the amount of Choline present in the tissue adjoining or surrounding the cancerous tissue before and after treatment; the treatment comprises administration of an angiogenesis inhibitor, for example, a VEGF inhibitor, whereby a decrease in the amount of Choline after treatment is indicative of a positive response. The decrease in the amount of Choline represents the decrease in the internal cell membrane as a result of down regulation of the organelles and their secretory granules and their transport vesicles. Disclosed also is a method for determining effectiveness of an angiogenesis inhibitor in the treatment of cancer. Also disclosed are methods of monitoring early treatment response in diseases where an angiogenesis effector, i.e., an inhibitor or promoter of angiogenesis, is employed. Also disclosed is a method for monitoring protein translation related to angiogenesis.
