Method and system for free-space imaging display and interface

This invention comprises a method and system for displaying free-space, full color, high-resolution video or still images while simultaneously enabling the user to have real-time direct interaction with the visual images. The system comprises a self-generating means for creating a dynamic, non-solid particle cloud by ejecting atomized condensate present in the surrounding air, in a controlled fashion, into an invisible particle cloud. A projection system consisting of an image generating means and projection optics, projects an image onto the particle cloud. Any physical intrusion, occurring spatially within the image region, is captured by a detection system and the intrusion information is used to enable real-time user interaction in updating the image. This input / output (I / O) interface provides a display and computer link, permitting the user to select, translate and manipulate free-space floating visual information beyond the physical constraints of the device creating the image.

Remote camera relay controller method and apparatus

A remote camera relay method and apparatus for remotely operating a self-contained, unattended digital camera over a communications link. Format conversion means are included for transparently relaying control signals and remote image data between a local host processor and the remotely located digital camera, independently of specific camera command and image protocols. It thereby functions as a universal remote image transmission adapter, operable as an attachment for use with self-contained digital cameras. A portable enclosure is provided for accommodating the remote relay communications and control electronics and for attaching a hand-held digital camera thereto. Further means are included for remotely actuating the pan and tilt orientation of the camera in accordance with field-of-view selection commands. Data rate conversion and error correction coding are included for providing reliable, low power image forwarding. The communications channel could be a dial-up telephone system, a network connection, modem, an infra-red link or a wireless RF link, for example. Additional control means are provided for remotely selecting the camera field of view for image capture, and includes the ability to access only those subsets of image scenes for which viewing permissions are authorized. A further mode of operation includes protocol training whereby host photographing commands are captured by the remote relay invention during on-line operation, then replayed at programmed times resulting in automatic scheduled remote image capture. Power management is provided for maximizing operating time when used in low power, portable, battery operation.

Systems and methods for wound area management

Systems and methods for capturing and digitizing an image of a wound and / or a wound trace from a patient and determining there from a degree of change in the characteristics of the wound. A first embodiment includes a transparent / translucent film onto which a dark outline of the wound is traced. The film is fixed to a reference template that provides a geometrically defined reference area. The film / template assembly is imaged with a digital imaging device associated with a handheld digital processor (such as a PDA). The digital image of the template and the wound trace are analyzed to identify the wound tracing and quantify the area within the closed curve. A second embodiment includes imaging the wound site with a reference tag and viewing the image on a display with an associated graphical data input device. A trace of the wound perimeter is made on display with the graphical data input device to establish a data set for the wound perimeter. The data set for the wound trace and the reference tag are analyzed to identify and quantify the wound area. In each embodiment, the system includes a display for providing both a view of the wound trace and the calculated data associated with the wound area.

Automatic camera calibration method

In an automatic camera calibration method in a system comprising a plurality of cameras, the automatic camera calibration method is characterized in that for each of the cameras, the estimated values of the position and posture of the camera are updated on the basis of observation information shared with the surrounding cameras and the estimated values of the respective current positions and postures of the surrounding cameras. An example of the observation information is the two-dimensional coordinate value of an image to be observed on an image plane of the camera and the size of the image to be observed.

Camera with video capturing button and still capturing button capable of simultaneous operation

One of first and second picture-taking operating devices is placed in a rear surface of a camera body, while the other of the picture-taking operating devices is placed in a front surface of the camera body. An operator can selectively use the two picture-taking operating devices and can therefore be prevented from erroneously operating the operating devices. Each of the picture-taking operating devices is provided so that its operating direction is parallel to the optical axis of a picture-taking lens. Therefore, camera shake due to an operating force can be reduced. When the first picture-taking operating device is operated, picture data on a subject is recorded on a first recording medium. When the second picture-taking operating device is operated, picture data on the same subject is recorded on a second recording medium. The two picture-taking operating devices are selectively used to distribute picture data to the corresponding recording mediums.

Unsupervised learning of temporal anomalies for a video surveillance system

Techniques are described for analyzing a stream of video frames to identify temporal anomalies. A video surveillance system configured to identify when agents depicted in the video stream engage in anomalous behavior, relative to the time-of-day (TOD) or day-of-week (DOW) at which the behavior occurs. A machine-learning engine may establish the normalcy of a scene by observing the scene over a specified period of time. Once the observations of the scene have matured, the actions of agents in the scene may be evaluated and classified as normal or abnormal temporal behavior, relative to the past observations.

Air clamp stabilizer for continuous web materials

A device for non-contact support of a continuous moving web of material employs an air clamp stabilizer that includes a Coanda slot and a backstep that is located downstream of the direction of the airflow extending from the Coanda slot. This configuration permits a Coanda jet to expand and to create an additional suction force. Vortex formation may also occur which further contributes to the strength of the suction force. As the web passes the stabilizer, an area of the web material rides on an air bearing that is maintained above the stabilizer surface and downstream of the backstep.

Method For Braking A Running Metal Strip And Unit For Carrying Out The Method

The method and unit for braking a metal strip (1), running off a wind-out coiler (2.1) in the form of a coil (1.1) and running onto a wind-on coiler (2.2) again, are to guarantee that a surface of the metal strip remains undamaged and a full effective braking force is exerted on the metal strip (1) by means of an eddy current brake (3.1) with a rotating magnet system (3.2). The above is achieved, whereby the braking force is exerted on the metal strip (1) by means of an induced counter-torque against a support bearing (4) to one side in a non-contact manner, whereby the support bearing (4) may be embodied as a counter roller (4.1).

Image modifiers for use in photography

In a first embodiment of the invention, a transparent plate is mounted at the film plane within a camera. The transparent plate includes a translucent diffusion pattern which diffuses incoming light rays reflected from the subject and effectively repositions them in a controlled manner prior to the light exposing the film. Proposed diffusion patterns may alter the light rays to create characteristics indicative of various types of paintings or may produce a controlled grainy appearance to an image recorded on film.In another embodiment of the invention, the transparent plate is mounted in a film cartridge. In another embodiment of the invention, a length of plastic film (a pattern strip) is positioned adjacent to a similar length of photographic film (film strip). An appropriate translucent diffusion pattern is provided onto one surface of the pattern strip, along its entire length. Both strips are rolled into a conventional 35 mm film canister and dispensed simultaneously, as needed (within the camera) so that each frame of film has a separate mask in front of it, at the film gate of the camera. In another embodiment of the invention, a transparent plate having a translucent diffusion pattern is positioned between the main lens of the camera, and the camera body. In this arrangement, a correcting lens is required to bring the pattern of the particular pattern into sharp focus with the image at the film plane to be exposed on film.

Wire spool guide assembly

The wire spool guide assembly is a conduit through which wire is dispensed in a controlled and orderly manner. The assembly has at least one wire spool guide, a handle bar and a spindle. The spindle may be a single spindle or part of a wire spool cart. The spindle is used to hold wire spools and the handle bar. The handle bar serves to hold the guide. The guide includes an eyebolt rotatably mounted to a support frame via a ball bearing. The eyebolt guides wire as it is dispensed from the spool acquiescing to the direction of the user's pull. Friction, created as wire is pulled through the eyebolt, slows the speed at which the spool rotates on the spindle. The frame of the guide, however, is fixed on the handle bar by a fastener disposed at a bottom end of the guide.
